Proposed deletion of Ashley Spurlin

The article Ashley Spurlin has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unfortunately, winning a bronze star does not make one notable on Wikipedia. Being a contestant (ie, not the winner) of a reality show is also not notable.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

Ashley Spurlin

I have been seeing you create other top shot participants. If memory serves, they either won the competition or were possibly notable by other means. Mr. Spurlin's article is the first that I personally don't think is notable. Could you find some other reliable references about him? I'm tempted to take it to AfD and see what others think, but will hold off for more references. Bgwhite (talk) 21:48, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

Wow, I really thought his military career would make the article notable enough. Hehe, go figure. Like you say, you can put it on AfD to see what everyone else thinks, while I look for other sources to see if I can expand it further. Thanks! Thief12 (talk) 22:45, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

Per Military nobility guidelines, he has to receive the Medal of Honor or multiple Distinguished Service Cross medals. A bronze star is around 9th and last on the list of valor medals. Unfortunately, I've deleted multiple people because of this. Deleting a bronze medal winner while a singer who had a #50 hit does not seem right. A quick look at Ryan Cleckner seems to have the same problems as Spurlin. Bgwhite (talk) 07:06, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

That's ok. I initially thought that Spurlin's military actions were notable enough for Wikipedia. As for Cleckner, I thought that his involvement with several veteran foundations mentioned in Wikipedia would make him notable enough. CCM performers

Maybe you would be interested in the discussion going on here: User talk:Boguslavmandzyuk#Alan Hall (musician). I'm getting the impression that the people I am talking to contest the notability of CCM performers and Christian music is not important enough to for any of it's less famous performers to be covered here on wikipedia. Personally, I thought I had cleary established the notability of Allan Hall of Selah), but my claims are being flat-out rejected without any consideration and reasons to say why they are wrong, the sources I provide (which are considered valid in every single article, excpet when it comes to Mr. Hall apparently) are being said to have no value, amidst offensive claims that "The Dove awards are pretty much meaningless". --BoguSlav 04:01, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Bogu! Thanks for bringing the discussion to my attention. As you can see, I contributed with what I could, which unfortunately isn't much. Although I agree that the claim about the Dove Awards being "meaningless" was ludicrous and out of place, as I've read further about Hall, I have to say that I can't find any significant individual notability to his career to warrant his own article, at least according to the Wikipedia standards. Plus, links to the Amazon sales pages of his only solo album aren't good enough. I suggest you look for magazine interviews or articles where his songwriting/producing career is highlighted, particularly outside of Selah. Use this link as a starting point for his contributions and work with other artists, and we'll see where we get from there. Thief12 (talk) 15:42, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Sorry I haven't responded for so long. I've been pretty busy in real life this past month.

Yes. I realize that I amazon might not be the best link now, as I've looked in to Amazon more (I've never tried to sell anything on there before).

In this case, it is pretty clear for me that these two users simply have a problem the notablity of Christian music in general. WP:BIO simply states that "A person is presumed to be notable if he or she has been the subject of multiple published secondary sources which are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject." I've provided quite a few good secondary sources, and they keep demanding more. I've also shown him to be notable separate from Selah as a WP:MUSICBIO, as a WP:COMPOSER, and as a producer with good sources. This looks like their attempt to limit the amount of articles on Christian musicians on wikipedia (WP:POINT). I would appreciate if you helped in the discussion here: Talk: Allan Hall (musician). Coats of arms and licensing

Hello Thief12, unfortunately I had to delete all of the coat of arms images from Puerto Rico you recently uploaded. Because depictions of coats of arms are almost always replaceable with free-use content that either exists or can be made from scratch, the images uploaded by you did not meet our criteria for fair use. By the way, the party leaders are not always two. The law states all inscribed parties must be represented. When Víctor García San Inocencio was a Representative he was automatically the House Minority Leader for the PIP. Maria de Lourdes was not because the PIP was not recognized as a party after she was elected because they didn't get enough votes to be reinscribed.
