Page Blanking

[edit]

On 13-Jan, you blanked Thomas Gets Bumped & Other Stories. Blanking pages is generally considered a bad idea. I've reverted it to the previous version. If this was the result of a broken edit, you may wish to make the correct edits. If you believe the page should be deleted, please follow the deletion procedures. Thanks! -- JLaTondre

Request for edit summary

[edit]

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 0% for major edits and 0% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 2 minor edits in the article namespace.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 23:04, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Thomasfan,

I came across your recently created page Unfeatured Characters (The Railway Series), but was a bit puzzled. What exactly do you mean with characters that are not featured at all, is that just in the series, or also in the books? Or are they characters from the books that are not used in the series? The introduction is a bit vague, perhaps you can clarify. Right now it states that they are characters who have not been seen/featured in stories of their own, or at all, which suggests that these are characters that do not exist in the stories at all.

Perhaps you can clarify the intro a bit, happy editing! Cpt. Morgan (Reinoutr) 08:11, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there mate,

I've just reverted a number of your edits on the On Site with Thomas page, for the simple reason that they were incredibly superfluous. If you have any further questions as to why, please feel free to use the Talk page and I'll happily chat about it there.

'Thomas' references on prototype pages

[edit]

Sorry, mate, but I've had to revert your recent changes to Aveling & Porter, etc. While there was nothing 'wrong' with your edits, and they were obviously done 'in good faith', nevertheless they were not really appropriate.

You need to recognise that the very presence of a link to the 'Thomas' characters from prototype pages such as these is really a favour from the editors who look after those pages. There are certain Wikipedians who would be glad to see all such 'In popular culture' and 'In fiction' sections eradicated completely. It is therefore essential that the information in these sections is kept to the absolute minimum, likely just a single sentence, to avoid attracting unwanted action. Most of the information you added was a duplicate of information on the character pages, so its no problem expecting interested readers to follow the links instead.

I'm not trying to 'get at' you. I have had the same problem myself, having added Skarloey Railway details to Talyllyn Railway, and, what I thought was quite reasonable coverage given the obvious parallels, a sizeable edit in the Wisbech and Upwell Tramway (regarding Toby/Mavis) – both of these were reverted for exactly the same reasons as I reverted your changes.

Just wanted to avoid wasted effort in the future...

One more point: where the character first appeared in The Railway Series books, this should be the link used in such sections, with a note that the character also appeared in the TV series. As the Railway Series character page links to the TV series page, there is only the need for the one link. (eg Class 04 and Class 08 shunter pages, as reverted).
