Hi Tiderolls!

Hi tide rolls! Remember me? I have learned more wikipedia rules. I learned: No Vandalism, No Disruptive Edits, No Unconstructive Edits, and a few more. Can you help me with something? I tried making it a few times but I had problems.Beamer103 17:17, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Help with what? Tiderolls 17:48, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for cleaning up this mess. Aren't these kids ingenious? I've requested protection at WP:RFPP, do you think it's worth being locked? East of Borschov 09:44, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

The mischief seems to have been short lived. I'll keep an eye on the article and if the disruption continues with no action on your report, I'll take care of it. See ya 'round Tiderolls 12:45, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Uninvolved admin

Hi, just wondered if you would take a look at user LarkinToad2010, as an uninvolved admin, and see if a short block is appropriate or give some words of wisdom for the user. There is on going ownership of articles that they are editing and I have been contacted directly about a possible block but feel that I am too involved to act. You can see the user's talk page for the interaction and then the comments on talk:Theresa May. Thanks Keith D (talk) 01:24, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

IMO LarkinToad2010's editing is pushing towards disruptive but I think a block at this point would be counterproductive. The thread on the user's talk page containing the "final warning" was a week ago and, although their tone is abrasive and confrontational, they have been using article and user talk pages. I find some hope in that. I'll message them and offer editorial assistance (such that I have to offer) and perhaps LarkinToad2010 will find their "Wiki-legs". I hope that you don't find my analysis unsound or weak. See ya 'round Tiderolls 02:29, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for taking the time to have a look. I have been trying to hold back, hoping to get them to change and co-operate with the community, rather than wading in with a block. I was away when the warnings were issued on the user's talk page and dropped them a message when I returned after getting e-mail over the problems. Keith D (talk) 08:37, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
I do understand. I hope that the user chooses to hear the message. Tiderolls 10:19, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
  • Comment I would have thought a short block, of at least 7 days, was justified to allow LarkinToad2010 time to sit back and reflect on the seriousness of his incivility and accusations of Keith D being a troll, see this diff:- [1] (Note the editor has been blocked, for 48 hours, previously for disruptive editing, when using one of his many sockpuppets, see:- 86.161.54.220). He also has a predisposition to label other editor's changes to his edits as vandalism, plus a growing tendency to ‘ownership’ of articles. Note the comment he made on Noq's talk Page. I have also warned him twice about incivility on the Larkin 25 talk page, due to his labelling of other editors changes to his work as vandalism. There is also an amount of incivility from him on the Kingston upon Hull talk page.
I am not saying that LarkinToad2010 is due some leniency that is not available to all editors. It appears to me that this user is not familiar with how tasks are best accomplished here and most likely is projecting their frustration instead of taking responsibility for their actions. I invite anyone that feels my approach is incorrect to post their concerns at the incidents noticeboard to obtain more feedback. I would welcome any input. Thanks Tiderolls 16:44, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

Toffee apple

Nope, although the use there is a derivative copyright; I normally use it to refer to Prodego (who is, surprisingly, an admin - one who makes the others look all sweetness and light/anarchist-y/delete as applicable). Ironholds (talk) 03:26, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Intrusion to my edits

Mate, please stop reverting my edits. It is getting very irritating and no valid reason is provided. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.162.183.27 (talk) 21:38, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

A valid reason was provided, mate. Also, I've posted a message to your talk page. Regards Tiderolls 21:41, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

Mate, why are you doing this

Mate, I do not appreciate your disruptive reverts. It is getting annoying and I will not tolerate this any more. Please stop asap. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.162.183.27 (talk) 21:55, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

You've made your frustration clear previously. There's no need to restate the fact. I'm telling you that opinion and commentary are not to be inserted into the article mainspace. To continue to do so is disruptive. If you continue, you will be blocked. Please stop. Tiderolls 21:58, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

Please be very careful regarding the changes you make to biographies of living persons. It is one of the most watched over aspects of this project for obvious reasons. Regards Tiderolls 22:34, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

had a message apparently about editing this guys page....confident its not me as I haven't edited any pages on wiki so can only imagine this was sent in error.

It's entirely possible you didn't make the edit in question. However, if you look here you will see that someone from your IP address did make the edit. These types of misunderstandings are easily avoidable by registering an account. Thanks for your polite message. Tiderolls 20:13, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Uknown American Presidents Task Force?

Hi Tide rolls! I am thinking about starting an "Unknown Presidents" task force and I noticed that you are an active contributor at WP:USPREZ articles. I was wondering if you would like to join me in starting this task force. The following Presidents would be included:

Our Mission: To expand the knowledge of the "Unknown Presidents." Specifically getting all these articles to GA class or higher. Let me know what you think. Thanks!--Schwindtd (talk) 01:21, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

An admirable goal, to be sure. I'm a bit occupied with other tasks presently and would not be able to furnish the attention your proposition deserves. As time permits I'll be glad to check in and help where I'm able. Thanks for inviting me and thanks for all your hard work Tiderolls 04:35, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Tideroles.

Hi Tideroles, this is a message considering your edit to the cloning section.

I have repeatidly edited the "Human" cloning section. Not only is this section of the cloning page EXACTLY the same as the pig section, no humans have been cloned as of yet, and no human organic material was used in the cloning of pigs. Therefore no humans have been cloned. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.239.250.125 (talk) 01:16, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

My edit? You mean the edit from November '09? I do not see where I have had any input regarding your edits to List of animals that have been cloned. I will oblige you here, though. This is a list of animals that have been cloned. I fail to see how including any that have not been cloned is relevant. If I'm mistaken about which article you refer to, or which edit you refer to then, please, take the time to be more clear. Regards Tiderolls 02:26, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

hi there

hi there tide,

i just added some interesting information on the banya related to nudity and what to expect with regards to it. could you please bring it back (unrevert it) as I've been to the banya before and I'd like to share my experience and contribute my inputs on the page.

thanks, let me know if you need to discuss anything regards, —Preceding unsigned comment added by 197.192.69.161 (talk) 02:16, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

One's own experience represents original research which not a source that is used to support content on Wikipedia. If you can locate reliable sources that report the content and cite them properly, then the content can be re-added. Regards Tiderolls 02:20, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Requesting a ban

Hi. I'm a user of the IP address 123.176.119.19, which is the shared IP of Dale Christian School. Someone at this school edits Wikipedia from time to time, vandalising random pages. (See Contributions) I am requesting an infinite ban on this IP from editing without logging in. If you are the wrong person to speak to please direct me to the correct admin, and sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you. Steven (talk) 04:05, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

I've briefly checked the contributions (I'll check further when time permits) and see some instances of vandalism. However, I found many edits that were actually helpful. Indefinite blocks are usually avoided with regard to IPs as they are often shared by many users. I will try to keep an eye on the contributions and help out with any reversions that are necessary. Thanks for bringing this to my attention and thanks for all your efforts here. See ya 'round Tiderolls 10:15, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
I just checked the contributions myself, most of the helpful edits were me when I couldn't be bothered logging in. I think I know who's doing the vandalism, I'll have a chat with them. Steven (talk) 01:42, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Vandalism

Hi

Just to say thanks for reverting the vandalism on my talk page.

You do know though that the IP keeps removing the block notice from their talk page now?

Hope you're well! --5 albert square (talk) 01:29, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

Happy to help, of course. Things are going well for me generally, thanks for asking. I don't think removing block notices is prohibited by policy, but it surely isn't a good sign. Don't get caught up in edit warring over a user's talk. It really isn't worth the trouble. Let them act out...it doesn't change reality. I hope you and yours are doing well. See ya 'round Tiderolls 01:39, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

Thought you'd appreciate this to thank you for all your hard work

I recently made an edit saying Lars Urich has cancer which he does it was announced at a press conference september 12, 2010. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.12.158.146 (talk) 00:16, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

I know you did, I reverted that edit. You should not add information to a biography of a living person without citing reliable sources. You can learn how to cite your source here: WP:Citation templates. You can learn about reliable sources here: WP:Reliable sources. Regards Tiderolls 00:21, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Blanking pages

If you blank a page on Wikipedia no matter what language it is, if you don't use an edit summary, that edit is still vandalism. Wayne Olajuwon chat 00:53, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure I take your meaning. I can tell you that there are very few absolutes on Wikipedia and page blanking being vandalism is certainly not an absolute. If you would like examples I would be happy to oblige. Regards Tiderolls 01:00, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

I would want some examples of page blanking not being vandalism. Wayne Olajuwon chat 01:02, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

One example would be the blanking of a page (with limited intervening edits) by the page creator. This is viewed as a request for deletion. Another would be a page that could be construed as an attack page. There are also certain instances where the the subject of a biography of a living person blanks a page that they do not want posted. That example is somewhat of a gray area which implies that great care be taken in one's approach to the edit. I hope that helps. Tiderolls 01:07, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks and I want to be an administrator. Wayne Olajuwon chat 01:10, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

The project is always in need of conscientious and dedicated individuals willing to contribute time and effort building and maintaining the encyclopedia. I hope you can stay active and continue learning how things are done here long enough to make the grade. Some folks find that they can contribute more effectively without the few extra buttons that an admin has. It's really just another job here, no more important (and in some respects much less important) than any other task. Again, if you'd like pointers on gaining adminship I'll answer any questions you have. See ya 'round Tiderolls 01:20, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Is an edit by a suspected sockpuppet vandalism? I will still stay active on Wikipedia. Wayne Olajuwon chat 00:42, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)Not unless it's vandalistic in nature; in short, there's no difference. BTW, Wayne, there's no hurry for adminship. It's not that different, really. You just get more complaints on your talk page ;). The tools are powerful, and you need to know how to use them. That takes experience, which usually comes along with time. Sorry for invading, Tide Rolls; I just stumbled onto here and felt that adding this would help. Airplaneman 04:31, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
No need for apologies, Airplaneman. I totally missed Waynes's query. My apologies, Wayne. Tiderolls 08:54, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

That's okay, Tide rolls, and thanks for your comment, Airplaneman. Airplaneman and Tide rolls, you two can block users, protect, and delete pages that regular users can't do. Wayne Olajuwon chat 16:33, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

With this edit (of many), the user is admitting to being a sock of indef blocked and banned user Zsfgseg. Could a range block be put into affect so the user can not IP hop? - NeutralhomerTalk • 23:03, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

I think it would be a time-saving move, Homer, but I'm not the go-to guy for range blocks. You'd be better served by asking at AN/I or a more experienced admin. Apologies for my inadequate mop-wielding :/ Tiderolls 23:06, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
