do you have a good link for the inclusion of those two in s.e.a. rather than something else - I keep dreaming of 'ocean' projects that would get around a myriad of weird inclusions JarrahTree 10:22, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Andaman and Nicobar Islands (India) is also mentioned in the article. Tim! (talk) 10:25, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks for your reply - I regularly find some weird overlap situations where things end up having oceania and southeast asia...

I think I might try to locate something which defines from a legal point of view - might take some time - will get back to you on this one - it is like the exasperation of the indian ocean/southern ocean distinction - dont let me start... JarrahTree 13:36, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The country categories were rename to media in foo here Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2016_February_10#Media_by_country just after Southeast Asian media was created. WikiProject Banners[edit]

Hi. I'm not sure it's a great idea to add banners to articles about people unless there is a very strong connection to the idea of East Anglia. Just because someone was born somewhere or played for a club in East Anglia, it doesn't mean that they need to be part of the WikiProject. If there are historical characters then I'd agree with adding them, but not cricketers (for example). Blue Square Thing (talk) 18:51, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ok I won't add any more although there are plenty already had that banner eg. Talk:Joseph Dixon (English cricketer). Tim! (talk) 18:58, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'll keep an eye as I'm working on things - if I see any I'll tend to remove them unless there's an obvious link. Thanks for pointing it out. Blue Square Thing (talk) 20:33, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

When adding banners you ought also to take notice of WP:TALKORDER, so the project headers come after {{Talk header}}. --David Biddulph (talk) 09:15, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please also be careful of adding redundant banners. For example, in this edit you added a {{WikiProject North East England}} when a {{WPTyneandWear}} was already present - one is a redirect to the other. This didn't just cause duplication of banners, it also meant that the page was in both Category:Unassessed North East England articles and Category:Start-Class North East England articles, also in both Category:Unknown-importance North East England articles and Category:Mid-importance North East England articles. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 12:00, 28 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Smallcat[edit]

Hi Tim

While looking at CFDs I might be able to close, I came across two where you !voted "'Keep misinterpretation of smallcat":

I just thought I'd point out that as a closer, I don't think I could give any weight to those !votes, because they give no indication of how you believe they are a "misinterpretation of smallcat".

I have no in advance idea how any argument might weigh, but just thought I'd point out that a closer can't do anything with a !vote which doesn't explain itself. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 03:35, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Categorisation of topics related to non-sovereign countries[edit]

Hi Tim

The ANI discussion has been closed.[3]

As I asked[4] at ANI, please will you work with me and @Mais oui! to set up an RFC on categorisation of topics related to non-sovereign countries? --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 19:49, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@BrownHairedGirl: An RFC is probably overdue to clarify if and when there should be any exceptions to standard categorisation guidelines for countries. It should probably be at a neutral location such as Wikipedia talk:Categorization or Wikipedia talk:Categories for discussion. Tim! (talk) 17:15, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Tim!: I agree that it should be a neutral location. I think WT:CAT would be better, because this is about categorization. WT:CFD is about the CFD process, which is not an issue here.
As to existing guidelines, I am not aware of any specific categorisation guidelines for countries. There is WP:Categorization of people#By_nationality_and_occupation, but it says that it should happen, not how to do it.
So far as I can see, the only guideline applicable to this issue is WP:SUBCAT.
Before trying to map the questions raised by WP:SUBCAT, existing practices and the nature of the topics, please can you tell me whether you agree that's the full set of relevant guidelines? Or do you reckon I have missed any?
I have also been trying to see if there is any way of searching for previous RFCs which might be related, but there doesn't seem to be any log other than the v selective WP:CENT/A, and I doubt any categorisation discussion was considered significant enough to be listed on WP:CENT. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:42, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Mais oui!: we could use your input here too. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:45, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@BrownHairedGirl: WT:CAT would seem preferable in this respect, also we may want to consider adding text to the section Wikipedia:Categorization#Subcategorization if consensus forms around particular ways of categorising countries. I shouldn't think there would need to more than a paragraph so unlikely necessitate a separate page. As well as the particular UK issues, we should properly consider Hong Kong / Macau in relation to China categories as sometimes I see them in "by country" categories and other times only as subcategories of China. I think you have also brought up dependent territories, it would probably be useful for there to be guidelines as to whether dependencies categories fall under 1) their sovereign states 2) in "by country" categories 3) in dedicated dependency categories such as Category:Transport by dependent territory. Portals on categories[edit]

I would like to urge you to stop adding portal links to categories using AWB. There's a discussion... somewhere... about finally deprecating portals, and your automated addition of them to category pages is not helpful. For example, Portal:Croatia (edit | [[Talk:Portal:Croatia|talk]] | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) you were adding to numerous categories had last useful edit in 2015, and I can't even find last content edit. That is the situation with 99% of pages in Portal: namespace, and they are basically dead, only the coroner has not pronounced it yet. Thanks. No such user (talk) 20:56, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like Wikipedia:Featured portals is discontinued however I see from the new pages special page here [5] that new portal content is being created. Tim! (talk) 07:55, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Useful assessment script[edit]

Hey Tim, I noticed you tagging a lot of pages that popped on my watchlist so I thought I would recommend this script if you do a lot of assessments. It really makes it a lot easier to identify if an article has been tagged for a project because if the page is red, then you know that there are no tags. Cheers! I'll check it out thank you. Tim! (talk) 16:53, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, you might want to slow down with the editing a little if you aren't going to do a bot request. There are a lot of people watching edits with AWB right now. I just saw one on the AWB talk page about an admin. Artickle (talk) 17:15, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Who is your main account you only started editing with this name today? Tim! (talk) 17:18, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'll be totally honest with you Tim, because I am really not hiding nor should I have to, I am indeffed but continue to edit frequently through socking because my ban was complete bullshit and I refuse to follow a ban that was only done to bully me out and by violating Wikipedia's own policies to get it. But that doesn't mean that script is bad nor is my recommendation not to edit to quickly or risk being targeted by the AWB edit police. But if you really want to know: look hereCheers! Notice

The article Obsession (board game) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No subject is notable without substantial coverage in independent reliable sources.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
