The Protomen[edit]

I hope you understand that we are not trying to be mean... if you read WP:MUSIC, you will see that we have to be somewhat selective on band notability, just so that any kid with a band can't add an article... again, not that The Protomen are just a garage band or anything... I believe they may be very notable locally, but here on Wikipedia, you have to think on a global scale... like I said on the deletion talk page, maybe try again a little later once that fan base has grown, and they have a couple more albums / tours / magazine articles... and remember, there is no Cabal... have fun, and happy editing... - Adolphus79 06:09, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Since I seem to be blocked from posting on your page, I suppose I'll have to respond here: I realize that you are "not trying to be mean." I just disagree with you, and happen to feel rather strongly about it. Also, I am in no way affiliated with The Protomen (therefore I am not a "kid with a band" or, for that matter, the author of the page.) Though, I will admit that I was unhappy with my edit count being called into question, since as I said, I'm not the one up for deletion debate. -Timzor 06:36, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If I know of and admire the Protomen's work... and I live in the UK, does that make them global? :> Jarus 15:13, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • You know, I think it just might. Too bad the rest of Wikipedia doesn't seem to see it that way... --Timzor 04:06, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What the hell, here I was trying to find info on The Protomen, perhaps their discography to see if my torrented album has all the tracks. And what I find, is this user page, and it appears there has been a Protomen article, but then some wankers living by their own rules (which they built and will not impugn) decide to delete it. Now there's no way to even check out the deleted page, so I have no way of evaluating myself if it would be "good candidate for deletion". So I must once again go to Protomens official bloated site to check their discography. Greetings from Finland, too bad there can never be an objective way for determining if any entity is "notable enough". 62.142.107.230 (talk) 16:10, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Protomen should qualify as notable. I'm a fan of them and seeing them here in Chicago in about a week. They're certainly national and apparently, as said above, global. Peaked —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.37.27.11 (talk) 07:21, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think that your revert of my edit to this article was uncalled for. You may or may not be aware but this particular article has been edited very much lately: in a Gorillaz video, one of the fictional band members appeared to die and this article became a bulletin board for many of the ideas people had. However, a biography of the band released recently proved she did not die. Since it is done and dusted, I think that the many present-tense theories need to be at least re-written, since the truth is now known. This is what I attempted with the "blanking" of the article. By reverting it, you have made the article messier. I'm sorry about the random fragmented sentence, but the rest is appropriate in my opinion.

Please contact me about this matter soon. Taylor 08:21, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure this is the wrong place to post a response. But I just google searched The Protomen to find more information about them, after hearing of them from a friend and buying their album. I was forced to Google the topic because the first place I checked was Wikipedia, and found myself dismayed to not have an article. I beleive that this band is much more prominant than you realise, and is easily encyclopedia worthy because of their unique nature. What I am saying is that although you may not concider this band to be nationally recognised, they tell an incredibly unusual story in an equally unusual manner, and these things draw attention to them whether or not they are extremely known or even talented. For reasons of documentation of a new concept, I beleive that The Protomen are encyclopedia worthy. There is a random bloke's biased opinion, one who, I might add, felt strongly enough to post it here, even though he had never posted on a wiki project before. But then again biased opinions are biased opinions...

It doesn't make any sense that they would not be on wikipedia. This is my first ever post on here, and I have to say that I am a little fumed. So, I now post links to where they have been featured. I hope you don't call all of these trivial as well. I read the earlier arguments, and they just called everything trivial and voted to delete anyway. First off, I have friends in Canada, the UK, and Australia that know of the Protomen. That sounds pretty renowned to me. I personally saw them live in concert on their tour stop here in Springfield, MO

-Article on Tennessee State University News Site [1]

-Myspace page with thousands of friends, hundreds of thousands of page views, and music videos [2]

-Video of song that will be on their SECOND ALBUM on TOUR at the Spazzatorium in Greenville, NC [3]

-Video of them on TOUR at AUSTIN TEXAS!!!! [4]

-Video of them on TOUR at HOLLYWOOD!!!! [5]

-Video of them at SAN DIEGO COMICON INTERNATIONAL 2007!!!! [6]

-Article at Kent State University News Site [7]

-Video FEATURED on MAJOR WEB SITE gamevideos.com [8]

-Album review on suburbanhorror.com [9]

-Interviewed at gamerhelp.com [10]

-The Protomen on NUKLEARPOWER.COM [11]

-Forum article with tour dates. This doesn't look much like a local band tour. It's nation wide. Obviously they have fans everywhere, or else they wouldn't be touring these places. also shows the date that I was at the Springfield MO show. [12]

They have merchandise, they have everything. These guys are the real deal. They can't say that they're just a local, not world renowned band. Just because they don't know about them doesn't make them less known. With all this proof, I officially declare that The Protomen deserve a Wikipedia article!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? What the hell...terrible bands who make terrible music make millions and have SEVERAL wiki articles, and you can't even give The Protomen one?! I think you need to stop watching MTV, and lurk more(and find REAL music).
