According to this site, Paliath Achan actually allied with Velu Thampi to help defeat the Brit rule that was advancing in the region. The Brits hadn't reached Cochin yet.

Hello again! I cant find the source right now (wasn't a reliable one anyway), but I read somewhere that only the islands were under the brit rule. Anyhow, how do we go about verifying such a thing? Okay, so i guess we'll have to wait till next week for you to get your hands on the book. And I agree with you. I've seen people quoting paras (probably written by somebody like me) from wikipedia and have it as the final word :P. Also, the article needs a lot of improvement before going for FAC. I pushed it for a PR 'coz I needed some advise on how to go forward with the article.

Hey, don't even think about worrying about it. In fact, I was going to reply to your earlier "11 minutes" comment with a "Heh", but I never got around to it (I was away for a while and I've been trying to plow through my watchlist). And I've even had some stumpers before, but it seems like all my questions are going quite quickly these days. I thought the one about the Grace brothers was tricky, but obviously not.

It's all good, and I guess my answer was technically incorrect as Patiala wasn't ever technically independent of India, it just sort of had a devolved parliament for a few years? Patiala and East Punjab States Union seems to suggest that it was always under Indian sovereignity (after 1947/48 of course) even thought it had its own parliament. Don't know, one needs to be an international lawyer or professional historian to keep track of the complexities of the subcontinent in the late 40s and early 50s...;P -- Deville (Talk) 03:01, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Do you know where I can get some information about the Greater Cochin Development Authority (like how it is run, how the members are selected, et al ) ? I dont think it would be enough to summarise the role of GCDA in kochi to just one line. I've given up searching on the internet. Ha ha! I have half a mind to let you read on with Padmanabhamenon's kathi. But unfortunately, I found what we were looking for - well....almost. :) I had sent a mail to "Information Kerala Mission", asking them to fix the corporationofcochin.org site. I was sure that the info we needed were in those pages that gave errors on loading. And just today I received a reply — they have agreed to look into the site. And better still, they gave me a link to the mallu version (NOTE:The site seems to work only in Internet Explorer even after installing the fonts). In case you cant read it, here's what it says : According to the site, the dutch empire was shaken following the kulachal war in 1741. With subsequent defeats from the Zamorins and Hyder Ali, the Dutch had to withdraw. All fine, and going good...but here comes the catch — The article goes on to say that the treaty, that passed on Kochi to the English, was signed in 1791! New cat

Hi Tintin, you may be interested in Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Cricket#New_cat. After creating the cat, I stumbled on the cricket quiz page and the Sharif trivia. I wanted to limit the cricketers to first class cricketers but I don't think it takes one-day into consideration. Should the description on the cat page say any of international cricketers, first class cricketers and List A? Samaresh Jung, another article I created recently is in much better shape, thanks to it being featured on WP:ITN. You may want to hv a look at it as well. More Theravadu AfDs

Tintin, can you please check out WP:DSI#Automatic delete candidates, there are three more Tharavadu pages for deletion, and other Kerala-related ones. Note that most pages in Category:Indian family names could be deleted if the Theravadu pages are, as also >20 pages on obscure Rajput clans (see my reversion record for today). Also, it seems OK for individual music albums to have their own pages on WP (scroll down WP:DSI), so that may help if you really want the other Kerala pages saved. Oh no!

All the time I spent on the Kochi article now seems to have been a big waste. Did you notice a message on the talk page by Santosh? I knew the world was crumbling when I read it itself. The area inconsistency we noted before could be...— no it certainly is — due to this. The corporation website has only the data for the city within the corporation limits. And if this is to be believed, then there is a lot more in "Kochi" than we imagined. How in all of heaven, did Chalakudi come into Kochi? Isnt it in Thrissur, for pete's sake. Okay, now the website might be showing incorrect information. But what about the Mayor issue that Santosh brings up?
