Public policy school

Well, then the Italian "Luiss School of Government" would have to be deleted as well. I also doubt that all of the added American public policy schools are as notable. I added Brandt School for it is the only non-private public policy school in Germany and has been established before Hertie even existed.

jscholt — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jscholt (talkcontribs) 15:40, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

You are correct about the Italian one- I've deleted it. Please note, when we say "notable", we do not mean the dictionary defintion of notable, but rather notable meaning "has received significant coverage in independent sources". TNXMan 15:50, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

Your edits of George Mason's School of Public Policy page were great; thanks for the assist. Douglaspark (talk) 02:21, 12 January 2012 (UTC)douglaspark

CheckUser cross-references

Sorry, I am still trying to understand some of the technical aspects. Is Wikipedia unable to cross-reference IP's with specific users? Thanks. ThomasC.Wolfe (talk) 17:28, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

We have the capability, yes. However, that data is generally not disclosed publicly. TNXMan 17:40, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

SPI CU decline

This decline is well understood for being stale, but the reason for asking is the most suspect IP address has likely created a farm of sleeper sock user names to abuse later. I already suspect there are some in use. Is that a non-legitimate use of CU? It's been done before. SchmuckyTheCat (talk)

If there are some in use, then the best idea is to list on the SPI page. A glance at a couple of the IPs shows no deceptive use of multiple accounts at the moment, though. TNXMan 14:07, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

Welcome back

No views? Martinevans123 (talk) 19:59, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

On the weather? Our current political climate? The Broncos? I'm sorry, but I'm not quite sure to what you are referring. :) TNXMan 20:03, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
No, not the Broncos this time, alas. Nor even the weather, fascinatng though it is, even in Denver, I'm sure. But the thread of the same name, posted two weeks ago, that you've just archived. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 20:16, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
Ah -not particularly, no. If you're referring to the questions you posed to during the arbcom election, I think I glanced at a couple of the responses. TNXMan 20:33, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
I was very encouraged to get replies from 10 out of the 17. And to see eventually that 5 of those 10 were in the 8 elected. I thought you might have had a look at a few more than just a couple of those responses - there were quite a few different viewpoints. They are all still there, of course, if you want to take a few more glances. :) Martinevans123 (talk) 21:17, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

Archiving

Hey Tnxman307, long time no see, how you been?

With regard to archiving SPI cases, mind if I take over? Just don't want to step on toes, sorry that the backlog's built up.

Cheers, SpitfireTally-ho! 16:38, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

I've been well. Busier than I would like, but that's life, I suppose. No problem with the archiving, go for it. I'm just poking around, clearing up where I can. Cheers! TNXMan 16:40, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
Glad to hear it; Yeah, I know what you mean. Right, cheers. Wouldn't look good if we clerks let you do all the work now, would it? =p Best, SpitfireTally-ho! 16:42, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

Article Velankanni

The article Velankanni was made by many contributors and finally the article has come to this stage. Please make a note that the claim of copyrighter material is absolutely wrong. The site http://www.vailankanni.info/whentovisit.html has actually copied the contents form wiki article. You can go through the history to find it out and it was me who have wrote that section in the article. Velankanni - the name itself is a name of Mother Mary in this part of the world. So the contents that existed previous to spammers was exactly correct and is required for all the pilgrims who visit the church. Without the church, there is no village called Velankanni....BrownyCat (talk) 15:59, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

The best place to resolve this dispute is on the article's talk page. Please work to arrive at a consensus on how the article should appear. TNXMan 16:08, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
The people who have done section blanking have mushroomed all of a sudden in just 3 days, while the article was developed by many contributors over years. Please retore it to the previous level and lock the same for a while. The article was clean and we were working it to make it as an Featured artilce. Please go through the history and decide it as per your own conscience BrownyCat (talk) 16:39, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
I have once again restored the deleted contents. I have requested to have a discussion before anyone indulging in section blankingBrownyCat (talk) 13:11, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

Is this a violation of our username policy?

We now have a David Beckett309 (talk · contribs) (I have concerns about his edits, but that's a separate issue). Thanks. Dougweller (talk) 19:17, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

I would say not (I assume you refer to David Beckett). "David Beckett" would seem to be a fairly common name and he is not editing cricket articles or the like. Just my two cents though, WP:RFCN may provide a larger consensus. I hope this helps. TNXMan 19:30, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
Makes sense to me. Thanks. Dougweller (talk) 18:47, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

Regarding Orartu

Orartu is currently under ArbCom sanctions [1] A user under ArbCom sanctions can not " seek a clean start account" as his editing is subject to restrictions and limitations. WP:CLEANSTART clearly states "A clean start is permitted only if there are no active sanctions in place against your old account." He also used a sock[2] to evade his block while he was blocked[3], a serious violation of Wikipedia rules that should have resulted in a longer block. It should be noted that Orartu had actually threatened to use socks and "other IPs" to evade his block[4], and he basically made good on his threat and evaded his block with a sock. This is all grounds for an indefinite block. It's also possible that he might have used other socks besides the one that was caught, using different IPs as he had threatened to do. It's also worth mentioning that User:SilkTork was most likely canvassed by Orartu off-wiki to unblock him, as he had been previously canvassed by Orartu . Therefore, Orartu's latest username, and sock, should be identified, tagged, and logged on the ArbCom sanctions log. Kurdo777 (talk) 23:06, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

Orartu's new username should be made public, and logged here as he is subject to ArbCom sanctions that limit him to one revision a week and a civility parole, and his edits should therefore be under scrutiny by the community and the editors who are familiar with these topics for possible infractions of his terms of ArbCom sanctions. Kurdo777 (talk) 23:28, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

Admins / Arbitration

Do administrators / arbitration committee look at these cases, not just clerks? "HelloAnnyong," who got over-extended with cases last weekend, forgot to put a block on the sock master's current account, which is key here. Don't think a week is going to cover it. Previous sock master's username was blocked indefinitely, IP 6 months-- it's in the archives. Pattern seems to have worsened while "undetected." Respectfully, this user appears to be somewhat of a chronic stalker/troll/warrior, and a sneaky one. GarnetAndBlack also needs to be tagged out of respect for the other editors. It's all "illuminated" in the edit summaries. I was thorough-- you wanted "behavioral": don't like to see this, & because I really don't want to have to file another investigation. Respectfully.

Oh, & Sock master is back on my talk page now; same "song & dance." ThomasC.Wolfe (talk) 15:05, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

HelloAnnyong is an administrator. They did not "forget" to put a block on GarnetandBlack -it appears HelloAnnyong reviewed the evidence and determined that GarnetandBlack is neither the IPs you listed, nor the previously-blocked accounts. I hope this helps explain the outcome of the case. TNXMan 15:14, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
I mean this respectfully, I think the admin was too busy, & didn't really look carefully at the edit summaries (identical). Even I noticed it in 10 minutes of reading (many diffs). Hard to believe a random IP from a university only makes 500+ policy breaking reverts on the same WP:DE content the sock master edit wars on. Both very active accounts went almost dormant within the 72 hours I filed the investigation, only a single edit removing / "covering up" other user complaints on a talk page. Also no academic edits concerning science / nature / biology / business / history, etc? Answer: same user(s). If this continues, do you have a recommendation for another admin who might take a look at this. ThomasC.Wolfe (talk) 16:21, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
If you would like to request another clerk, the list of active clerks is on this page. If you want to put the request to any admin, the administrator's noticeboard is here. TNXMan 19:43, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

How to address a situation

I've seen your name as a clerk at SPI. I've stumbled onto a situation I don't know how to, or if I should, address. I work at 3O and while looking into this listing noticed that most of the text of the article seemed too pat and, upon checking, found that it was all a copy-and-paste copyvio (which I removed and warned). I then started looking at the edits of editor Sparks flew and they seem far too sophisticated for a newcomer and I suspect that this is a return of a banned or blocked editor. I don't generally work in the entertainment area so don't recognize an editing pattern that I can take to SPI. Is it acceptable to just list someone like this at SPI with no more evidence than I have, or is that a guidelines or AGF violation? Best regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 15:52, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for bringing this up. These edits rang a bell for me from a SPI case I worked on previously. After some digging, I've turned up five socks of 2ne14ever (talk · contribs). I'll add the information to the relevant SPI page. Generally, though, suspicious editing isn't enough to file an SPI. You'll need someone to whom you connect your suspicions and support it with diffs. I hope this helps explain. TNXMan 16:12, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice. Just FYI, apparently popped back up and restored copyvios as IP editor within minutes after you blocking him/her. Have reverted that edit and requested page protection here. Best regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 18:49, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

Still waiting for an answer

Did you see my comments here? SilkTork appears to have left Wikipedia for the momenT. This issue needs immediate attention. Allowing a disruptive editor with history of POV-pushing who is subject to ArbCom sanctions, to edit pages without the scrutiny of the community under a new name, will only damage the Wikipedia project. If you look at the history of the last sock Orartu used, which you caught yourself, he had been using the sock to (1) evade his block (2) make original research edits to push a fringe POV (3) create POV forks, several of which were deleted after the sock was revealed. This is why his latest sock should be logged and disclosed, as his edits should be under scrutiny by the editors who are familiar with these topics, or his questionable edits will go unnoticed as most Wikipedia editors have no knowledge of these topics to notice fringe claims/original research/POV-pushing, and that will only harm Wikipedia's integrity and reputation as a reliable source of information. Responsive Web Design page deletion

The "Responsive Web Design" page was deleted. I'd like to see if it can be fixed up, as this is an important topic. Could I have a copy, please? LittleBen (talk) 14:05, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Done and done. You can find it at User:LittleBenW/Sandbox. Let me know if there's anything else. TNXMan 14:08, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for your trouble. I'll work on bringing it up to article standard. LittleBen (talk) 15:54, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
I've rewritten the deleted article and fleshed it out with references. Is the skeleton article in my sandbox now good enough to be reverted, please? LittleBen (talk) 04:28, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
I was able to figure out how to move it back to Responsive Web Design, thanks. Any comments welcome. LittleBen (talk) 12:24, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
Moving this article from User:LittleBenW/Sandbox to Responsive Web Design has created a redirect from User:LittleBenW/Sandbox to Responsive Web Design. I'd appreciate if you could suppress the redirect. LittleBen (talk) 12:46, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
Done. In the future, you can request deletion of pages in your own userspace by placing {{db-u1}} on the top of the page. TNXMan 15:38, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
Many thanks! LittleBen (talk) 00:32, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

Blocked user talk

Well, you forgot to add a blocked user template here even though you blocked We'II AII VandaIize Together as you can see from here that you blocked him. So you should do it.--Ankit Maity Talk | contribs 06:05, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) That's because it's not needed. The user was informed with there original block message. I've blocked tons of socks and not notified them. -- DQ (ʞlɐʇ) 09:37, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

over-zealous bot?

I was about to post a welcome message on User talk:Account6172 but noticed that you had just blocked him for "Abusing multiple accounts".

This appears to be due to reports at Wikipedia:WikiProject Spam/Local/palmefonden.se and Wikipedia:WikiProject Spam/LinkReports/palmefonden.se.

The user has only made 3 edits, all of which I would have made myself if I had bothered to check the Olof Palme prize, which I normally try to do, in order to keep the list up to date. His 3 edits are all perfectly OK as far as I can see, just part of routine annual updating (which I have now completed).

Perhaps you may wish to reconsider this block?

--NSH001 (talk) 16:31, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

I'm not sure what's going on, but they appear to be connected to ! The United States (USA) (talk · contribs) and ! Everybody Hates (talk · contribs), using the same computer and IP address. I was following up on a report at WP:UAA. TNXMan 16:36, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for trying to help me

It just this users TEHodson keeps harrassing me saying I violate protocal when I review Wikipedia's standard that I didn't not. Everyone is different, and she should not demands that I heeds to her ways of editing instead of my own. --NeoBatfreak (talk) 21:27, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Please don't heed TEHodson of blocking me, and for image uploads, I am learning how to identify the proper images to use.--NeoBatfreak (talk) 21:37, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

I see that you blocked the I am Jon Gilland (talk · contribs) account for sockpuppetry. Can you check the whole group of accounts related to the Bel Air, North Dakota article? Bunch of friends playing a prank, I'm sure.

The last one was blocked already for other reasons. Thanks! -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 19:59, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

It's tough to tell. They appear to be editing from an educational institution, which muddies the waters. Behavior will be a clearer indicator. TNXMan 20:33, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
Not a problem. The article has been deleted and I'll keep a watch on it and the remaining accounts. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 20:41, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Sockfarm in the making?

I was patrolling the user creation log, and I noticed that a number of similar usernames have been popping up recently. The extreme similarity makes me wonder if it is a sockfarm in the making. However, just the username isn't really enough for me to justify blocking a whole group of accounts—it could be a school project, for example. However, would you mind looking into this? Thanks! Reaper Eternal (talk) 16:47, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Oh brother, look what I just found. Starting to look like a gigantic sockfarm. Reaper Eternal (talk) 16:50, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
If you want the opinion of a talkpage stalker, looks like a class project. EGM4213 looks like a college class code. Syrthiss (talk) 16:52, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
Okay, that makes more sense then. I was thinking it might be a class project based on the "team##" part. The only confusing thing is that many of them never edit. Reaper Eternal (talk) 16:55, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
Ohh... It makes more sense now. egm = engineering and mechanics, #### = class code, s12 = spring 2012, team# = the team number they are on, and the final part is the name. Reaper Eternal (talk) 16:58, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

I agree with Syrthiss, this does appear to be a class project. I believe there's a project page for this type of thing where the class can register to get help. TNXMan 17:03, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Centenarian

Thanks for blocking that IP vandal on the centenarian article, but now there's several more at once (maybe a troll forum or something?). Could you please semi-protect the article, at least for a few days? Thanks. Michaelmas1957 (talk) 20:00, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Protected for six hours. There do appear to be some constructive edits by IPs as well. TNXMan 20:04, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, much appreciated. Michaelmas1957 (talk) 20:05, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

HetoumI case

Did you happen to check the Winterbliss account in this case?--The Devil's Advocate (talk) 00:48, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I think checking the Winterbliss account in this case is pointless because he`s already been checked twice against Meowy socks and Xebulon socks and he frequents Arbitration Enforcement, meaning that anyone can be anyone, but I think we need more evidence than a comment against another editor to run another check. (But that is my opinion) -- DQ (ʞlɐʇ) 03:50, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
Agree with DQ. The Winterbliss account has already been checked twice -any connections with other accounts would have been noted. TNXMan 14:13, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

Hey. I saw you tagged the two accounts there as socks of Shannona9077. Only thing is.. User:Shannona9077 isn't a registered account.. — HelloAnnyong (say whaaat?!) 02:20, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Slip of the keyboard with the 'a' I think, try User:Shannon9077. -- DQ (ʞlɐʇ) 11:33, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
Indeed. The filer listed it as Shannon"a"9077 and I was looking at that as I was typing. TNXMan 13:10, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

Huayu-Huayu (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki) Thanks for slowing him down. You blocked him for socking[5], but who's the sock? I thought it was just a case of being disruptive. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 10:00, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

See Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of Huayu-Huayu, where they are all listed. I hope this helps. TNXMan 13:11, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
Wow. Thank you. Very helpful. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 14:35, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Tnxman. Since you blocked Huayu-Huayu, a sequence of 203.145.92.xxx IPs have taken over his/her cause at Taiwan island group, its AFD (where one of them has also voted) and related pages. It looks like block evasion, but can anything be done? Kanguole 21:15, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

I have removed the auto-unblock request from my talk page.

I am sending this message to all the people who have commented on my unblock request at User Talk:12bigbrother12#Caught in an Autoblock. I've removed the request because I have moved back out to university, where I have a different IP address and so am not affected by the block. I will be going back to my old (home) IP address in March where hopefully the situation should have resolved itself. Thank you for taking the time to deal with my request, If for whatever reason I'm not allowed to remove the unblock request I apologise and obviously feel free to revert the edit I made on my talk page. Thanks again. 12bigbrother12 (talk) 20:10, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

I think I may have messed this up by trying to reopen it before it had closed. Could you take a look, please? TIA Cusop Dingle (talk) 19:03, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Hello there, I ask that you assess this situation as no other admins have taken the situation seriously & we could potentially lose one highly productive Wikipedian. Please take a look, Regards.★☆ DUCKISJAMMMY☆★ 23:43, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

It appears to be resolved, but if there are further issues, please let me know. TNXMan 03:08, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for replying, the user was blocked temporarily for his actions not long after I had contacted you. It wasn't the outcome I had hoped for but at least it will cool things down for now, administrators have made it clear to the user he will indefinitely blocked (for the 2nd time) if he continues with his disruptive actions upon returning after the 31hr block. It's a pity no administrators took the original case against him seriously & it took a case that he took out to boomerang (well more a less), it would have saved a lot of stress & productive hours lost. ★☆ DUCKISJAMMMY☆★ 10:23, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
We gave the guy enough WP:ROPE and he used it. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 10:49, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Roadside Picnic edit/undo

In the book, Redrick's boss is a scientist. The boss is unhappy because he has been studying "empties" for years, without success. Redrick knows where a full "empty" can be located, and makes his boss aware of it, in the hopes that by studying a full "empty", his boss will be able to make progress in his research.

Therefore, it is my opinion that he does it to help his boss's "career", rather than his "carrier".

I don't have a formal wikipedia account, but if you wish, you can reach me at <blanked>. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.92.89.169 (talk) 19:05, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

I'm not sure to what you are referring. Is it this article? If so, you may be able to discuss your edit on the article's talk page, where other interested editors can discuss it with you. I don't think I've ever edited that page. TNXMan 19:08, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
