April 2011[edit]

Hello. Please refrain from adding trivial lists, as well as un-sourced content, as you've been doing with Mafioso rap. Failure to comply will result in involvement with Wikipedia administratives. Thank you. --Blastmaster11 (talk) 18:44, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mafioso rap[edit]

Hi,
you appear to be partaking in an edit war on the article Mafioso rap. Blastmaster11 has removed that list since it is completely unsourced. I just tried to source a few of the names in that list and failed, so I tend to agree that this was the right move.
If you want to add back a list of names to that article since you believe it is encylopedic and improves the article, please make sure that each and every names comes with a footnote pointing at a reliable source confirming it.
I'd also like you to have a look at one of the guiding editing principles here on Wikipedia called "Bold, Revert, Discuss"; this is a collaborative project, and we can only get anywhere by working together. Persistence won't get you anywhere and your changes will just be removed, you need to convince people that your changes are beneficial.
If you want to discuss this, it may be best to do so on Talk:Mafioso rap, I'll keep that page watchlisted.
Thank you, Amalthea 20:33, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yo, Blastmaster11.
I don't speak English.
But,
Mafioso rap = East coast Gangsta rap
Therefore, All East coast Thug style rapper is Mafioso rapper.
They quote from a many Crime films, and are using the name of Gangster of real existence and the Imaginary character as an Alias.
Yu know?
Tomeepa

  • Not quite. Just because a rapper is from the East coast region and has "thug" content in their lyrics, does not necessarily make them Mafioso. There's a pretty big difference between the street/thug rapper and the lavish/classy one. Many of the artists you have listed in the section aren't exactly "notable", being that the majority didn't pioneer, nor shape this sub-genere - they simply jumped on the bandwagon to follow the trend. We can sit here and argue over whose notable and whose not, but at the end of the day if there's no reliable sources, the material will be removed as it's continuously been doing. --Blastmaster11 (talk) 04:54, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Tomeepa, any of those assertions would need to be verifiable in a reliable source as well. What I found just now was http://aainnovators.com/Archives/Articles/New%20School%20Hip%20Hop-JKRhee.htm (not sure how reliable that is), which defines: '"Mafioso" rap, which boomed in the mid-1990s, is an extension of East Coast "thug" rap as well as West Coast "gangsta" rap. Whereas gangsta and thug rappers tell tales of life on the ghetto streets, Mafioso rappers spin imaginary fantasies of rappers as Mafiosis, drug kingpins, and organized crime figures'.
That goes into the direction you mentioned, but is certainly more specific.
One example from the list of artists, you repeatedly listed Shyne as a notable example of a mafioso rapper. Can you give me any reference for that? I can't find one, and I've told you above that I couldn't find sources for many of those names. It may be obvious in your interpretation of "Mafioso Rap", but we can't build an encyclopedia based on people's opinions. One core principle of Wikipedia is WP:VERIFIABILITY. If you continue to ignore that we have a problem. Amalthea 11:02, 4 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Street Family has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unreferenced, does not qualify WP:Notability

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
