CRC256[edit]

I can't remember myself where I found CRC128 and CRC256 being referred to. Maybe it was part of an IEEE publication -- however as I was reading ACM publication at the end of the Cold War I would not rule out the ACM.

All IEEE publication went paperless in the 2000s, so trying a Uni Engineering library is about your only hope of finding these high order CRCs.

The publication did provide the polynomials for the high order CRCs, but what with hashsums becoming into being in the 1990s killed the high order CRCs. I suspect the publication was dated in the late 1980s, but that is all I can remember.

High order CRCs do have a place, but user groups that could use them -- like the CCSDS -- prefer smaller hashes instead. Eyreland (talk) 19:55, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
