Contra dance[edit]

Thanks for the correction. Now who started the trend to write symmetrical, aerobic dances? Was Shadrack's Delight one of the first? 199.125.109.5 (talk) 20:23, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It wasn't the first by any means, but I believe it was among the first to gain widespread popularity among folk-revival contra dancers as distinguished from modern "western" square dancers. A lot of callers were thinking along similar lines in the 1970s. Tparkes (talk) 16:48, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

19th and 20th centuries[edit]

Tony (?), I wonder if your edit of 17:06, 15 July 2008 to the 2nd paragraph of the History section ("added more on 19th and 20th centuries") needs modification, or if the confusion is only in my own mind. It seems to me that either the first sentence should say 20th century instead of 19th, or we need a segue between it and the next sentence to cover the 100-year jump in time. --Rich Janis (talk) 01:31, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"19th" in the first sentence is correct; I added a sentence to help bridge the 100-year gap. Thanks, Rich, for pointing out the problem. Obviously the History section needs expansion (and the History sections of the square dance articles need a lot of work too). Tparkes (talk) 17:03, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome[edit]

Thanks for the edits to Utopia. Nice to see you here! -- Ssilvers (talk) 20:42, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open![edit]

Hello, Tparkes. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
