Wikipedia as a reference[edit]

Hi TrevorDev - Just a heads up that we don't use other Wikipedia articles as sources. Basically a person could an article, then use that article as a reference to disseminate inaccurate information across many articles. It just doesn't work if we allow that. Thanks for the prompt feedback. teh rules are confusing though because I referenced other articles where wikepedia links were used in published articles. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budget_Direct and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suncorp_Group who both reference wikidedia articles several times. Surely the rules should be consistent?

They're consistent. With over 4,000,000 articles, we just haven't found everything wrong with every article yet. We're catching all of yours because we're in the AFC process. We know that people who sign up and go immediately to article creation 1) are often promoting something, which violates the spirit of an encyclopedia and 2) probably don't understand WP's basic rules as well as someone who joins then hangs around making minor edits before doing anything major like a new article. It's there and sufficiently detailed, I think. Knowing that your example article was tagged as having reference problems, from the main WP:AFC page you could click on the "references" hyperlink in that in that first sentence and learn more. From there, there's a single page that gives a pretty good rundown of reliable sources, including the fact that open wikis aren't generally acceptable. AFC editors are admittedly at a disadvantage in learning these rules given their lack of basic editing experience before creating articles, so it either requires a good bit of reading guidelines or a good bit of advice from other editors, which is what you're getting here.
