Backlog Banzai[edit]

In the month of September, Wikiproject Military history is running a project-wide edit-a-thon, Backlog Banzai. There are heaps of different areas you can work on, for which you claim points, and at the end of the month all sorts of whiz-bang awards will be handed out. Every player wins a prize! There is even a bit of friendly competition built in for those that like that sort of thing. Sign up now at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/September 2019 Backlog Banzai to take part. Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations open[edit]

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are now open. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the coord team. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 02:39, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How to move/merge to an existing page?[edit]

@Hemiauchenia: Thought it best to hold this discussion here. Normally I am bold and take the steps, but I'm not clear on how to move/merge to an existing article. I can "rename" but don't know how when the name exists already. I guess I took the passive step hoping someone would assist who cared about this particular article and knew how. I didn't assume YOU would be that person. Trilotat (talk) 17:53, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the delayed response. When the name exists already, and you want to merge pages, if the page you want to merge into another page has little/no useful content, then simply blank the page and add "#REDIRECT [[Target page name]]" to the top of the page and give an edit reason. If you want to merge pages with substantial content on the article to merge from Wikipedia:Merging provides a good guide. The main things you want to do are add {{merge from|Page to have content merged from|date=Current Month}} to the top of the article that the content is going to be merged into, and add {{merge to|Page to have content merged into|date=Current Month}} to the top of the article that content is going to be merged from and be converted into a redirect. you can see a current example on the Hopeman Sandstone Formation and Cutties Hillock Sandstone pages. You then open up a discussion on the talk page of the article the content is going to be merged into and then ping relevant users. I hope this helps Hemiauchenia (talk) 19:31, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If they agree then add the content from the page to be merged to the page to be merged to with copyediting. After this you then blank the page of the merged from page and add "#REDIRECT [[Merged to page]]". After this you then add {{merged-to|Merged to article|Date of merge}} to the talk page of the now-redirect, and then add {{merged-from|Merged from article|Date of merge}} to the talk page of the article you merged the content into. Hemiauchenia (talk) 19:38, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. It very much helps. Thanks for your time and also for your work on geology articles. Trilotat (talk) 19:36, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
As an addendum you should change the wikiproject rating of the redirected article to redirect class, as I have done on Talk:Rhaetic Beds Hemiauchenia (talk) 14:33, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve Chester Ray Longwell[edit]

Hello, Trilotat,

Thank you for creating Chester Ray Longwell.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Not sure this would survive AFD, you need more than one source.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Slatersteven}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

Minor edits[edit]

Information icon Hi Trilotat! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 16:16, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@BlackcurrantTea: Thank you. I make a lot of edits, and few I mark as minor (mostly because I don't remember to.) Is there any way I can see this edit? Trilotat (talk) 17:42, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Disregard. I see the edits that you refer to. Trilotat (talk) 18:06, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I hope the 'templating a regular' didn't annoy you. Between pending changes and certain articles on my watchlist, most of the editors I leave notes for are new, and using templates is a bit of a habit. The edits I noticed were three edits to Jody J. Daniels, one to Coast Range Ophiolite, and one to Henry Robert Frankel. Cheers, BlackcurrantTea (talk) 18:48, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No bother whatsoever. I am glad to know when I run afoul of a standard. Trilotat (talk) 21:05, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
