April 2008[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, please do not add promotional material to articles, as you did to Paint and lacquer distributors. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" is strongly discouraged. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Ros0709 (talk) 13:34, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is meant to be a historical representation of a company that no longer exists. Trout459 (talk) 13:38, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Trout459[reply]

I would advise renaming the article (see the move tab at the head of the page) so that it is clearly about the company. Ros0709 (talk) 13:42, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have renamed it for you, reinstated the speedy tag you removed (you are not allowed to do that), plus added a hangon tag and directed attention to this page. If the company no longer exists the article will probably not be deleted on the basis of being spam, but the article does not make any assertion that the company is notable per the criteria at Wikipedia:Notability_(organizations_and_companies). If this is not done the article will still likely be deleted. Ros0709 (talk) 14:32, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors;
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
    and you must always:
  4. avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, verifiability, and autobiography.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Business' FAQ. For more details about what constitutes a conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Conflict of Interest. Thank you. Ros0709 (talk) 13:42, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles, or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion debates, as you did with Paint and lacquer distributors. Otherwise, it may be difficult to create consensus. If you oppose the deletion of an article, please comment at the respective page instead. Thank you. Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Paint And Lacquer Distributors (company), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Paint And Lacquer Distributors (company) is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Paint And Lacquer Distributors (company), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Your question on the Help Desk[edit]

Hi Trout459,

as someone suggested, I've reviewed your deleted article. First off, I think the accusations of "spam" were a little dramatic, so i hope you didn't take that personally. However, I'm fairly sure that no matter how much you work on it, it ultimately wouldn't meet Wikipedia's Notability policy. (better link for your case: [1]). Please read that, and I think you'll see why. This is a common error; many people think Wikipedia accepts articles about everything, but there are actually many policies for inclusion. If, after reading that policy, you'd like to address the company's notability, I can provide you with what you wrote so far in a workspace: User:Trout459/Sandbox. But I recommend you consider first whether this would just be postponing the inevitable; I'd hate to see you spend more time only to have it deleted again.

Sorry for the rocky start. Please take a look at some of the useful links below, and maybe that will help make your next article less of a hassle for you. --barneca (talk) 00:16, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your unpleasantly brusque introduction to Wikipedia[edit]

I'm sorry it's been such a rocky start for you here. Part of the problem in Wikipedia culture is that we are so constantly inundated with people whose sole purpose is to market their company or client, that we have become oversensitized to what we suspect is just another spammer. You got bopped that way, and I'm sorry. I can understand your desire to memorialize a company that was important in many people's lives; but that's not the kind of thing we do here. On a planetary scale, that company wasn't very notable, and the deletion decision reflects that.

I hope this doesn't put you off Wikipedia entirely; we're trying to do some good work here, and can always use another willing hand. --Orange Mike | Talk 13:55, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
