"Temporary hardness" Question

Just out of curiosity, why didn't you put this in the "Hard Water" article in the first place? The information seems fine, but it seems that it would go better in the main article itself instead of being a Stand-Alone. Jambobambo (talk) 17:54, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

Most of this information was originally in the "Hard Water" article (a few hundred edits ago), but was removed, along with a lot of other material. I think it was removed because there were complaints that the hard water article was too long (as it still is). Therefore, I thought it made more sense to break it out into a separate article, linked in from "Hard Water". A similar short article on Permanent Hardness would probably also be a good idea. --Turjan (talk) 18:22, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

Retinol

Thanks for your work cleaning up retinol so that it's actually about retinol!

Many years ago I tried to help rationalize the split between the retinol and vitamin A articles. My idea at the time was that the retinol article would be much shorter, primarily a chemistry article, talking about the individual molecule and its physical/chemical properties, plus I suppose any biological properties that are unique to that molecule, if there are any. The vitamin A article, on the other hand, would be primarily a biology article, and all substances with the right biological activity would be in scope, including carotenoids. It was a bit of a losing battle (the most frustrating part was having to fight interwiki bots that insisted on changing the links to other languages where the split was different or there was only a single article).

It might be time to re-evaluate the split and see whether it still makes sense, or whether the articles should be merged. I think in principle it still makes sense to have a separate retinol article about the individual molecule, but that requires someone to actively make sure it stays that way, as you are doing now. --Trovatore (talk) 22:10, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
