I've had to revert your edits on this article; the "obvious spelling and grammar errors" weren't, of course; they were perfectly correct British English, which you changed to U.S. English. Tutmosis, I want to lend a hand in adding to the Bay Area Hip hop scene. My personal interests are the Hyphy movement and Thizz, but there is sooooo damn much culture and what not, from the 80's with Too Short - Thizz Nation now. I figure, you being the king of the wiki Hop hop project, you might know (or have advice on) how to put together a team on getting this on there. As for as the to do list, subdivisions and what not. Spelling corrections

I'm sorry to be so blunt but it seems very strange to me for somebody to revert a spelling correction to an article without checking how the word is actually spelled. I'd just like to understand what would cause you to feel it's appropriate to revert good changes without checking that the revert was actually something bad. Receive is actually spelled this way, and not 'recieve', as a quick look in any dictionary will tell you. I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just trying to understand what compels a person to do such a thing, as it seems utterly bizarre to me. -- Rediahs 07:34, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Well I'm looking for something rather simple and square to go in{{Star Wars Portal}} and/or {{User Star Wars WikiProject}}. I can't be to complex because of the small size. I edit all around, basically. My first major task was adding lots of information to Xenosaga and Xenogears, merging all the information into lists, and so on. The old American vs. British style debate. Since Star Wars is an American product we would use American spelling. Mmm, Lego Star Wars: The Video Game. The edits seems to be strange, but assume good faith and assume the editor is trying to improve the article. Try to talk with them on their talk page (and encourage them to get a Wikipedia account). I'm not sure if it vandalism, because I don't know anything about the subject. To Do list needs to be reformatted

I think each sub-section (specifically the stub list) needs to have their own section (the "==______==" header rather than the "===_____===" header). That way we can organize the stubs into seperate sub-catagories (i.e. album stubs, article stubs, etc.). What do you think?--chub 10:55, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi Tutmosis. The way most portal colours are set is through a box-header sub-page. The New Zealand Portal colours can be edited from Portal:New Zealand/box-header. Collaboration

I'm eager to nominate Illmatic (which is currently being nominated for hip hop collaboration of the week) for FA-status, even though I feel that more can be done to improve it. I feel that with a collaborative effort from members of the hip hop wikiproject, we can bring up to FA status in no time. Do you think its time to close the votes for collaboration of the week, or should we leave it open for new members to weight their opinions in? --Chubdub 14:53, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

• Considering that the amount of votes recieved are small and took place in a span of several weeks (2-3 weeks if I can recall) I don't think it should be weekly (atleast not until we gain more members). Perhaps the voting process may need to be done on a monthly basis? After all, bringing an article to FA status is quite tedious.

Within a certain amount of days the article with the most votes wins.

Hopefully, once the project becomes further established, hopefully individual members will be willing to assume a more active role. And yes, there is still an immense amount of work that needs to be done (see the To-Do list) before we see significant signs of improvement to individual articles. But right now, we need to continue establishing the project. As for the rating system/peer review, I think the whole criteria system (lead, substance, pictures, references) sounds great! --Chubdub 15:54, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for doing that. In response to your comments: it's not a matter of offending me (or any other person in particular); otherwise I could just say "hey, Tutmosis isn't here, I can say all the stuff that offends him now!" It's a case of being civil and not making personal attacks; comparing those who want to delete a rather malformed and silly idea (note: I'm not among the ones arguing for deletion) to Hitler is rather uncivil, and could easily be taken as a personal attack. I'm not always as civil as I should be myself, so I know how easy it is to shoot from the heart instead of the mind ... but it really makes everyone's time on Wikipedia a lot more pleasant if we're civil to each other. Concordia Newsletter

Community Justice is no more. It has been reformed to Concordia. Membership has been transferred.

Concordia is an organization of editors on Wikipedia that strive to encourage civility and fair treatment among all editors in the Wikipedian community, from the Wikignome to the Wikiholic. The project was designed to have a friendly and helpful environment to support any unfortunate Wikipedians that have become victims of incivility, hostility, or continual disrespect.

We currently need help in getting going, and making the community understand our aims. We work for civility. Nothing more, nothing less.

If you have ideas, let us know at our talk page, or on the IRC channel. We aim to spread civility in every way we can.

Your edits to a vandalized version

If you want to resize images and improve the table appearance, please do it with not vandalized version. The versions you've edited in Ranks of the People's Liberation Army Navy and Ranks of the People's Liberation Army Air Force were vandalized by Roitr and unfortunately we can not always manage to revert all his edits before other users modify them. His versions are wrong and completely different from the proper ones. He inserts bogus ranks in the tables as long as completely wrong correspondence of military ranks from different countries. He has IP addresses starting with 88.155, 88.152, 88.153 etc. You can see other his IPs and edit patterns in User:Roitr/sockpuppetry. Please do not support vandalism.--Nixer 18:17, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Project updates Greetings, Star Wars editors! Deckiller here. It's the first edition of the WikiProject Star Wars newsletter, and yes, it's a semi-ripoff of the Esperenza newsletter. I think it's important to begin with some good news: Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and Jabba the Hutt have reached featured article status! Kudos to the editors who helped obtain these achievements! WikiProject Star Wars is also on a mission to improve Star Wars articles using the following ideas: An out of universe perspective versus an in universe perspective (see Wikipedia:Writing about fiction and the future ammendments to our manual of style) Evolving lists into regular articles Moving excess information and specifics to Wookieepedia (and providing links to Wookieepedia per the "see also" and/or "external links" sections) Enhanced communication amongst WikiProject members More to come These should provide the basic steps needed to improve and "encyclopedia-fy" the Star Wars series of articles. Things to do There are plenty of Wikipedia:WikiProject Star Wars/things to do. An update to the page is coming very soon, and it will represent the new and exciting changes that Star Wars pages will be receiving! Out-of-universe versus in-universe perspectives Although details are forthcoming, I would like to take this time to explain the gist of this concept. Wikipedia has generally agreed that fictional articles should write about the topic from a "real world" perspective, focusing on real world issues and topics, with a section or two for plot synopsis and so on. Jabba the Hutt is a solid character example, and Clone Wars (Star Wars) is quickly moving toward an out of universe perspective.

Article evolution As many of you know, lists of minor Star Wars-related themes are very common on Wikipedia; however, since these may be seen as violations of Wikipedia policy (and having seperate articles would breach even more policies), the tentative solution is to create general articles on a list's topic (for example, turning List of Star Wars devices into Technology of Star Wars, which allows us to cover everything from hyperspace to comlinks in a general encyclopedic fashion). This can be very tough for some broad topics, so the key is organization. I encourage all editors to list their ideas on the WikiProject talk page. It will be a very difficult — but tangible — effort. For an example, let me point you to the Final Fantasy WikiProject. Some of us over at that WikiProject decided to turn various components of Final Fantasy X, such as Pyreflies, Yevon, and the backstory — into an article describing the world of Spira. Location descriptions were given a List of locations in Spira article, and the details themselves were placed on the Spira (Final Fantasy X) page. This is a decent template to follow — however, we will need to place priority on out-of-universe, "real life" topics and perspectives in realtion to the article. Sounds confusing, eh? Hungarian Revolution of 1956

Thank you for reviewing the Hungarian Revolution article - you bring up a very valid point - one we have continuously debated - i.e. how to be accurately descriptive of the public sentiment without being too NPOV. The crux of the problem is that the event itself is the result of precisely these very strong (and very NPOV) feelings, which are noted repeatedly in the referenced documents (esp. the UN report). Only this strong emotion could persuade a small country to expel the Soviet occupation - certainly not calculated reason. We would certainly welcome your constructive comments and will take each one seriously. (I think you must have caught some of this back-and-forth precisely after posting your first comment). Consensus on the page, at lest, is that to avoid the emotional language would be to mislead the reader. If you can suggest a means of reconciling the conflict - i.e. achieving the best of both accuracy and NPOV then we are happy to hear it. Istvan 20:49, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Stephen Colbert FAC

Ouch... Disrespectful? Don't bite! I'm still kind of new. After the peer review, those of us interested really started to make some positive changes on the article, removing the quotes and placing the Wikiquote box. Removing several unnecessary external links. The problem was that since he is such a popular figure right now, we had so many people coming in adding new useless information and nonsense and vandolism that we had to clean up. It turned out that there really weren't as many "serious" wikipedians interesting in doing the grunt work on the article. I understand and completely respect your objections. I would suggest however that in the future you leave comments to the article themselves, because honestly calling me "disrespectful" I took personally. I think that I've done a great deal of hard work on wikipedia and this was my first article that I had ever submitted for FA candidacy and I personally thought it met the criteria. Kiero

Hey, sorry, I don't know much about Kiero, other than three songs that existed on it (Rise Like The Sun (The Dawn), Ride Like The Sun (The Dusk), and Musical Essence) and the fact it was only available in Toronto for a short while. There's an interview here where K-os expresses interest in re-releasing it, but only after being allowed to tamper with and redo the songs. Other than that, I've only found a few mentions here and there on various websites, but no meaty info. (Rishi B 20:09, 21 October 2006 (UTC))

Hey again, I recently found some more info on k-os... seems in addition to Kiero, he had something called "Take You There"... it was an EP that contained the songs Take You There, and the Rise Like The Sun songs. Just the three tracks. It sometimes pops up on ebay, and according to a [k-os.forumsunlimited.com k-os fansite], it's legit. Apparently, it was distributed by an indie label (Pure) in the states, and is pretty hard to find (duh).(Rishi B 10:22, 25 October 2006 (UTC))

Hi. I find that musicsquare.net is useful for worldwide chart positions (though it only goes back to 2003), and you can find U.S. chart positions at billboard.com. There is also a less well-known chart called the ARC Weekly Top 40, the official website for which is at rockonthenet.com. I should note that some of the information on top40-charts.com is inaccurate. As for choosing which ones to include, I'd recommend against including airplay or download charts because I think a country's main single chart is an adequate indicator of a single's popularity in that country - there's no point including three charts if one conveys essentially the same information. I do think it is good to include any relevant genre-specific charts; for example, in the U.S. you have the Pop 100, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and so on. Hope that helps. Settlers II Gameplay

Hey I heard you were working on Settlers II. I looked over the gameplay section, and it looks pretty good. I wouldn't call it cheesy; it's written from an out of world perspective, and I think it covers all aspects (probably the two biggest problems of gameplay sections). I've never played the game, but are their different sides you can be (I.E. axis and allies in WWII games)? That's really all I saw missing from the gameplay section (it's kinda hard to know what's missing if you haven't played the game, and it'd be pretty dumb for me to pull that "broad in coverage" junk.). Another thing that might be the reason that you called it cheesy was because most of the paragrapghs subjects were "the player." For example "During the beginning of the game, the main warehouse is the only building that has a radius granting the player territory. The player can expand his territory by building any of the three possible military complex's near the border of his current territory and sending atleast 1 soldier to operate the complex. A serf can become a soldier once a sword and a shield are constructed." could be "During the beginning of the game, only the main warhouse has the ability to grant territory for further growth. Territory can be expanded by creating one of three military complexs near territory borders. Each complex must have at least one soilder to continually operate the complex. Soilders can be created by constructing a sword and shield, and using them to upgrade a serf." I'm not great with prose or spelling, but the idea I was trying to convey was that the subject changes as the paragrapgh moves on. If you are talking about soilders and how cool they are and you want to move on to serfs, try to connect them. I know you've probably dealt with prose a thousand times, but I'm just trying to get across that prose is still there in RTS games. If you need more help with structuring video game sections, JimmyBlackwing helped me out a lot. You're doing a great job though. Keep up the good work. --Clyde Miller 22:29, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Well look at the orginal research stuff if you haven't already (good stuff there), but usually people are more leanent with what needs to be citied regarding video games. It goes case by case usually, but stats and actual ideas are usually citied. I think I may have citied some uneeded things in Empires, but I think it is usually better to cite more than less. If you say that soilders fight, don't cite it, but if you say that soilders can kill serfs better than other serfs, you might want to cite that. fair use

A couple of points. Firstly, the issue of whether a free image can be created is a lot trickier than you seem to think. Is it really possible to create a free picture of J. D. Salinger (note that someone has challenged the fair use rationale of the current image, from a book cover by his daughter, and, so it'll probably get deleted soon enough)? In general, how easy is it to get a free picture of famous people? I think that the idea that the possibility of getting some famous person to release a photo on the GNU license (through wikipedia's "clout") should be totally off the table in terms of fair use criteria. If someone can get the person to do that, wonderful. But the possibility of this (vaguely present with every living person, and even with dead people, presumably) shouldn't actually cause us to delete existing images. The possibility of taking a picture of a famous person seems a priori similarly dubious - obviously there are exceptions, and there will be famous people it will be possible to get pictures of, but this is not easily possible to members of the general public in the way that, say, getting a picture of the Arc de Triomphe would be. Anyone in Paris can take a picture of the Arc de Triomphe and release it to wikipedia. To get a free picture of Tom Cruise is a lot tricker, and the conditions in which such a picture would be likely to be taken makes all the more likely that the picture will be awkward and poor and unprofessional compared to a promotional photo, which it would be perfectly legal for wikipedia to use. john k 10:36, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi - I noticed you added the November list to Wikipedia:Featured articles nominated in 2006. I've been doing these semi-automatically, with a script that parses through the nomination pages and creates the table. The script isn't perfect but it makes creating these tables a lot easier than doing it by hand. I generally update WP:WBFAN after updating the monthly list, with another script. Annoy? Hell no. I have plenty of things to do and the more people able and willing to do any particular task the better. I actually put together a list a while ago of periodic maintenance tasks that various folks do, see Wikipedia:Maintenance/tasklist (but haven't added tasks related to featured articles). The scripts are shell/awk, I run them on a Mac OS X. If you're on Mac or Linux it should be very easy, if you use Windows it might be a little harder. The WBFAN script is at Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by featured article nominations/script - as far as I know I'm the only one who has ever run it. I'll put the source for the monthly list scripts on a page somewhere (I'll let you know where) so anyone who might be interested can run them (or improve them). If you're interested, please feel free to use them. I've posted the source for the by-month scripts as well, see Wikipedia:Featured articles nominated in 2006/scripts. I suspect the easiest way to use these on Windows would be to download cygwin (which I don't think comes with cURL, so you'd have to find this as well). The main processing is done in awk, which is vaguely a predecessor of perl. I don't think it would be difficult to translate the awk code to perl. -- Rick Block (talk) 18:56, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm wondering about your decision to switch the word "earliest" to "first" in the sentence about the "Protect Ya Neck"/"After Laughter Comes Tears" single. Obviously, these tracks were recorded EARLIER any other tracks on the album (making them the earliest tracks to make the album) but do we have any evidence that they were the FIRST to be selected for the album (the first tracks to make the album, as the current version states)?

Obviously, 36 Chambers probably contains just about everything Wu-Tang had recorded at that point, and it's likely that they picked these songs for the album because they were picking everything. However, I don't think we can simply assume that when RZA was assembling the tracks for the album he said "First off, I choose 'Protect Ya Neck' and 'Tearz'."

Maybe there's a better (less awkward) way to say "earliest to make the album", but I think "first to make the album" makes a potentially false assumption. Hope that makes sense. Hit me back. Venicemenace 20:35, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Tutmosis, thank you again. It is great to see an unbiased opinion and help with this situation. About the archived material, that was done before I came onboard with Wikipedia and reading it is what intrigued me. On communication with these editors, I honestly have tried viamently to discuss and reason with them. Again, when I even such as suggest that there is ambiguous material in thier inclusions, they take a totalitarian stance and state thier way is "Right" and whatever I change, they will change it thier way. This raises many questions. If there are conflicting items that cannot be completely verified and conflicting references, then ambiguity must be stated. What thier objective is it seems is that any other information other than thiers that is conflicting, is wrong, period. Any kind of discussion with them ends up this way. Also, if you research the "Talk" page, editor in reference to including the "Moon" film subject, "DPSmith" objective is to quote "...I've left it in myself because I think it's so silly that it undercuts any suggestion that the new Biograph is to be taken seriously". This to me sounds like thier is a personal attack and bias here. I could honestly care less who is arguing with whom. All I care about is that a verifiable and clean article is included in Wikipedia, and it is not used as a personal forum. There are also other notes from these editors that suggest the same thing. This is also why I have posted the notices to obtain assistance from other unbiased editors to improve this article. Well, first of all I am not an administrator so I can not block anyone if that what you ment. Even if I was and this applies to the current administrators blocking powers are used only on very specific cases such as WP:3RR or WP:VANDAL or WP:AGF. Action to be taken in disagreements over content require various quite long steps outlined in Wikipedia:Resolving disputes. Therefore, looking again at that last page the best thing to do at the moment is for all parties to stop reverting each other and enter discussion. Thank you for your reply. I do not mean blocking anyone at all, I mean representing me in my inclusions and securing that there are no problems. Also, I would personally not revert anything unless it was discussed and agreed upon. The other named editors that I have had problems with, would, and have changed and reverted without discussing it first (Please see "Archives"). Again, I have truly tried to enter discussions and they will not listen, period. I am busy as you, and when I find time I will check with you the changes I would like to make in the article prior to actually making those changes and proceed from there. Users will often be in conflict "unofficially". There needs to be no formal end to a conflict, no deals need to be made or anything. If the conflict has ended, then it is done, officially or not. Your handling of the case looks to be ok. There is no one right way to handle a case. Although there was one thing I did see on Talk:American Mutoscope and Biograph Company that looked a little odd, under the section Notice to Editors. There is no Wikipedia protocal that says that changes need to be discussed first. The only reason that ever happens is when a page is fully protected from editing due to edit wars. Also, there is no reason to add tags to an article for the heck of adding tags. There needs to be a specific reason to add a tag, and that reason should be expressed on the talk page. There are much better ways to get the attention of editors. And new users are not always drawn in just by a tag. Basically, there needs to be a reason for, and because it's happened before and preemptive aren't very good reasons. -Royalguard11(Talk·Desk·Review Me!) 23:07, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you -Royalguard11 very much for your input. First, when I mentioned "Protocol" it was intended as etiquette, not "Policy". Also, if you notice in the "Talk" and "Archives", this article is far from looking decent, and there are many conflicting "Sources", hence the reason for "Tags". If these "Tags" can help, then they need to be there. As you started earlier, it is not "Protocol" to discuss everything on the "Talk" page first, which I agree, this includes tag additions. I am also in contact with our advocate and when enough verifiable information is gathered, the article will be re-edited and changed to a verifiable and proper form. Until these conflicting sources in the article are remedied, then this article will be of a questionable nature and its contents ambiguous at best. On the issue with the "discuss changes" part, that will come after consulting our advocate.

Tutmosis, the postings on your "Talk" page have been removed with only links now. I only have a few minutes of time so this will be a disjointed reply to what is going on, but it will be as detailed as possible. I quickly reviewed your request and I will reverse the postings on the "Talk" page, however I will include a small link which the reader/editor can go to if they wish. On the other subject of tags, I insist they stay up. I will be happy to point out a "Case" on my return, but feel there is prejudicial circumstanes that have not been addressed. Since you are my "Advocate", you need to please review the postings of Will Beback and question him as well on the intentions of his accusations towards me and his insistance on removing ALL tags. I can somewhat understand to a point the "Factual" dispute tag with a "Case" in which I will compile, but the others "Neutrality", "Verifiablity", and especially "Confusing" (Articles like Mary Pickford and others like it are not confusing and understandable to the reader, this article is not) are valid and to stay. I also understand that all editors are to be treated equally, unless one is an actual Wikipedia "Administrator". I also question why it is such a major point to Will Beback to remove these tags. I respectfully request to you that my inclusions be treated equal as such. I refuse to make Wikipedia a "Battleground" and if this continues I will take this to arbitration and take further action through the proper Wikipedia channels, which I do not wish to do, or to further escalate this situation over "Tags".

Urgent appeal

I needed your assistance in a very serious problem and appeal to you as my advocate. There is an attempt to block me as a user on Wikipedia by Will Beback who is also an administrator. You can see the accusations on the talk pages. One of the main accusations is that I am somehow connected with the American Mutoscope and Biograph Company which I am not. Of course this will not give me even a chance to be able to write a rebuttal and explanation of the tags I have placed on the article. Unfortunately I am newer to Wikipedia and do not have members here in my defense. I can encourage friends and colleagues of mine who are involved with film history to join Wikipedia, but most likely they will be blocked as well. Whatever assistance you can be please let me know. I will be contacting Wikipedia administration to see what can be done. I do have my case mostly written in defense of my tag postings, but that may never happen because of this possible block. I have made my utmost attempt to follow Wikipedian policies and tried to provide fair editing and editing. But there is a coalition that does not wish to have outside contributions that negate their information. I am very busy and if this matter can be settled that would be nice, but I do have a life and need to focus on that, and on that note I will be absent for awhile longer though will try to log in periodically. If I am blocked, then it will be just an experience and that Wikipedia is something for anyone to truly avoid and definitely not support with contributions of information, membership or financially. Availability to help in a dispute?

Tutmosis, I'm trying to help improve the quality of the facts in a series of pages that involve the history of the Jewish Chasidic movement. I'm not a chasid, just a very knowledgeable historian who has a large number of quality resources and references available to add. However, I'm getting hammered by some fanatical chasids who don't want to listen to facts or reason. They think they own all the facts. Nor are they recognizing the references and facts I'm presenting in what I believe to be a neutral manner. These folks keep undoing my work and basically ganging up on me and my contributions. I'm not saying that I'm always right. But I don't have a particular agenda other than getting the best information into Wiki as possible.

Can you please help me? I'm not asking you to agree with my point of view, but can you please keep an eye on this dispute and maybe help tone these fanatics down? I'm relatively new to Wiki contributions (a lurker for about a year) and would appreciate all the advice you are willing to give.

For a starting point, take a look at this page. This same dispute affects something like 5 or 6 pages of similar material.

The problem isn't Hasidic fanatics -- the problem is Klezmer who ignores any facts or published works that he doesn't agree with or which don't support his agenda, and won't compromise, so he arbitrarily just keep deleting/reverting and wants the articles to reflect just his own opinion/views despite the comments and input of others who are more knowledgeable than he is about the facts. --ChosidFrumBirth 21:36, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
