Copyvios

Please explain to me your justification for declining as cv in Special:Permalink/1160105106 and Special:Permalink/1160100650. Primefac (talk) 13:20, 14 June 2023 (UTC)

@Primefac Are we going to entertaining copied context, be small portion, that too from news website? Is it permissible in Wikipedia? I am just trying to maintain the rules. If any wrongdoing by me arised, I am ready to face the consequences per rule. Twinkle1990 (talk) 13:29, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
You know the answer to your question is "no". However, you did not answer my question: why did you mark those pages for deletion and decline them as being copyright violations? Primefac (talk) 13:34, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
@Primefac While reviewing an article, I check copyvio first and then source check. I have found copyvio above 20% and declined. After that, I triggered G12. But I see you have undone both. Now what is the problem as a new? Twinkle1990 (talk) 13:42, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
I have found copyvio above 20% and declined - that is the problem. You cannot decline a draft simply because the percentage is above a certain value. If you look at the second page (Draft:Malashri Lal), there is a 60% hit but that match is only to a list of her published works. Heck, on Draft:Vivek Sood's page (the first permalink above) the only matches are to job titles. You cannot simply go off of the percent, you need to look at the actual text and determine whether it is something that is copyright (such as a big paragraph of text) or something that isn't (such as a list of items or a long job title). Thanks @Primefac for your valuable advice. I vow to follow a big paragraph of text issue from now on. Twinkle1990 (talk) 13:49, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
I am not saying that is the only situation. I am saying that you have to evaluate every copyvio check. I have declined G12 nominations that had a 90% match, and I have deleted pages where the tool only gives a 40% match. The tool is a starting point, not the answer to a yes–no question. If you are unsure whether something is a copyvio, please ask someone, since these things are not always super-obvious. Primefac (talk) 14:04, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
Sure @Primefac. I shall be more cautious. Thanks for pointing out my mistakes. It's late night here, so I need to go to sleep. Have good days ahead. Thank you again. Twinkle1990 (talk) 14:08, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
