A tag has been placed on UOIT Engineering Students' Society requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. —C.Fred (talk) 02:34, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To cut through all the boiler plate and give the executive summary[edit]

  1. Student organizations that exist only at a single university are not generally notable organizations. As a result, UOIT Engineering Students' Society is tagged for speedy deletion for failing to assert the significance or importance (i.e., notability) of the organization.
  2. Editing on behalf of your employer or school is bad practice, because you have a conflict of interest with the subject. It's possible to write a neutral article; however, it requires a lot of caution and a lot of citation of secondary sources.
  3. The rule of thumb for account names is that each name should represent one user: it can't be a group account, and it shouldn't imply that they're acting in any official standing. Because your username gives the appearance that you are part of the administration of the university, it violates the username policy. Continuing to use this account may result in your account being blocked due to the username concerns.

That's the situation here. Please reply if you need assistance regarding changing usernames or on how to supply reliable sources for the Society's article. —C.Fred (talk) 02:40, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
