Please, could you take a look at the article Ananthabhadram? It needs quite some copy editing job. In case you are interested, do not begin before 10 June. That's why I like to do peer reviews btw, this event is fairly obscure so I was happy to add it to Wikipedia. The statement is about percentages, don't know what happened there. The article is really quite different from the Good article version that you helped with, though most of the text from that version remains it has undergone a significant expansion as well as a structural overhaul. I added a comment to Owls' user page to see the talk before making changes. I really don't want an edit war right now over the article. But could you keep the article on your watch list for a while just so you can keep an eye on it, and if necessary explain the changes from an outside viewpoint? Thanks. I saw your comment at FAU talk. It was very well put. I was not trying to change any content, but only to make the sentence reflect grammatically what the consensus had decided. What I don't understand is why Owl took offense to the change. Even if he has a pro-FAU POV, it is not an insult to FAU to say that it serves more commuter students than other schools of its size. It seems factual that the admission standards and graduation rates are lower. The article reflects that the President is trying to improve the school on many fronts. The cited sources verify that these are facts, not POV. The reader may draw its own conclusion as to whether schools that attract students from all over the country (Harvard, Yale, Duke, Vassar, etc.) are perceived as affording higher-quality education than those that attract mostly locals. The evidence is that FAU is taking significant steps to improvement, so to that extent, the article is favorable to FAU (and factual), and certainly not a negative POV to which anyone who is affiliated with the school should take offense. Congratulations again on an excellent, comprehensive, and well-balanced article. I will watch it. Hope it makes FA! Regards, Unimaginative Username 19:36, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

I was wondering if you could do me another favor. At WP:FAC they wanted me to either choose FAU or Florida Atlantic in the article and use it uniformly. I went with Florida Atlantic and changed the article to eliminate the FAU references in the text (except for names and such). I read through it again afterwards to make sure it flowed but I am sure I missed something. Can you just read through the article and make sure it still flows properly and it sounds good? I don't think you need to look at punctuation, just read through and see if everything is correct. Thanks. KnightLago 23:50, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

I understand their point for formal writing, although of course in informal speech we frequently use "USC", "UCLA", etc. Another way to avoid the repetitiousness of frequently writing the whole name is to refer to "the university" at times where its name has been spelled out recently. Just a thought... I'm in the middle of c/e 2007 Midwest flooding at the request of one of the significant contributors, but I should be able to look at FAU again within the next few hours. GO replied on the FAU talk page basically saying he was tired of us enforcing the rules of the wiki while others did not. I did not respond, and I also encourage you not to. So long as he isn't reverting or making more edits, cool. No, I don't care to respond. If I did, I would probably lose my good faith and say something like, "Sir or Ma'am, according to the article, you attend a school that has abnormally low graduation rates and admissions criteria, including a 1000 SAT. This copy-editor, on the other hand, took accelerated/honors courses all through school, was in the National Honor Society in high school, went to college on a full academic scholarship, and had a modern-day SAT score of 1600. That certainly doesn't mean that he is always right -- everybody is wrong many times -- but it would be preferred if challenges to copy-edits were made by others with strong academic backgrounds and strong verbal skills and knowledge, and if the challenges were supported by verifiable sources, as I have done with some of the edits that I thought might give rise to questions."

Intrusive Barnstar

When viewed in Mozilla your copyeditor's barnstar overlays the item about English - i.e. it has moved to the upper right. On I.E. Explorer it is OK. My screen resolution is 800 x 600 on an HP workstation running Windows XP Professional. Pax Nabisco Carrionluggage 19:22, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the alert. I have Firefox with 1280x800, so I think the issue might be the lower screen resolution. I put a couple of extra line breaks in. See if that fixes it. I don't like the resulting blank spaces, though. I am not familiar with the coding of how to align these boxes neatly the way so many users do. You see what I'm trying to do -- if you are proficient at this, please feel free to edit my page to make it look right, if you care to bother. Thanks for the message! Thanks - I can read it better now, but the Barnstar is way to the right and I have to scroll. It is also partly overlaid by the Wheaties-Cheerios item. I tried more pixels but that does not help and it shrinks everything. I enjoyed your name, too. My favorite is "User:Lysdexia". I am ambisinistrous at the keyboard (and all left-handed thumbs, too) so I have no editing advice. I am actually tired of my name and would want to be "Clever Hans" (q.v.) or something else - perhaps Eohippus - but it is too hard to change. Carrionluggage 05:01, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Oh, come on -- "CarrionLuggage is priceless :) "Lysdexia" is good, too - reminiscent of the joke about the dyslexic insomniac agnostic who stayed up all night wondering whether there really is a Dog.

Presently nursing a sprained finger on the sinisterly-abled hand, so having some ambidextrosity is proving hand-y (sic), although ambiendextrose is not a recommended combination for either sleep or tea, due to the conflicting effects. UU is self-descriptive - registered on an impulse, as most probably do (go search my first post LOL), and was stuck for anything more imaginative. Duh.... You could always register a second account and quit using the first, or at least not engage in malicious sock-puppetry, in which case, who would care?
