March 2014[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Junior Writers Awards has been reverted.
Your edit here to Junior Writers Awards was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (https://www.facebook.com/juniorwritersawards, https://www.facebook.com/senatehouse) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 16:07, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add soapboxing, promotional or advertising material to Wikipedia, as you did at Junior Writers Awards, you may be blocked from editing.

Diffs: 27 edits — In these edits, you inexplicably remove maintenance templates and restore problematic, promotional content to the article. Wikipedia is not the place to promote the Junior Writers Awards. Articles must be written from a neutral point of view and not in such a way as to deliver fluff, make peacock statements or otherwise make the program appear tantalizing.

Statements about the "unique"ness of the program or how the judges are "esteemed", and parroting the program's website are not what we do here. Additionally, copypasting content from the official site represents a copyright violation, as it has not been freely licensed per the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.

If you are insistent to restore this content to the article, then I will nominate it for speedy deletion under G11 criteria as "Unambiguous advertising or promotion", which I might do anyway. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:29, 19 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

Hi Cyphoidbomb, Daniel Case, I was blocked, since you think I am doing some Advertisement or Promotion. But I would like to let you know the Junior Writer Awards is hosted by Norton House Global Education Initiative - a non-governmental organization (NGO). We would like to get more people knows it is a charity event for all students in Hong Kong and Macau (may be more countries next year). They all free to join. No hidden charge. JWA is a multi countries and high level English literacy competition. Some of the advisors and judges are very famous in Hong Kong and Macau. Some of them are government officials. I hope you can understand the Events and guide us to do well in Wiki. Please unblock me and restore the related doc. Thanks

Hi, "promotion" doesn't only mean "advertising for money". Non-profits "promote" as well, and the Junior Writers Awards was a prime example of promotion. You created the article by copy/pasting article content from another source, assumed it was fine, and when it was heavily edited and pared down by another editor (i.e. by me), you didn't accept the collaboration, and restored the problematic content without discussion. You even acknowledge in your response above "We would like to get more people knows it is a charity event for all students in Hong Kong and Macau" So your position is problematic because you claim it's not promotional, but then say admit that you want to promote the event. When the event is covered by reliable sources that are independent of the subject, per our General notability guideline, then maybe it will be worthy of inclusion at Wikipedia. But if you wish to promote your event, you'll have to do it somewhere other than Wikipedia. Sorry, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 05:18, 20 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Junior Writers Awards, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which articles can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:54, 19 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

We are the helper of the Norton House Global Education Initiative (Non-governmental organization - NGO). We are first time to do the wiki and not much experience of it. We just post the Junior Writers Awards Event information in Wiki. It is a charity event, free to Hong Kong and Macau secondary students. Also involve some Hong Kong government officials. We hope can enrich wiki community more informative, so that people can understand and know the result.Upperhouse01

Decline reason:

You clearly indicated that this is a role account that intends to edit in contravention of our conflict of interest principles. Also, we can't unblock you under your current username. Max Semenik (talk) 21:25, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

Since I am first time to use Wiki, and not clearly understand the rules. I made mistakes that the content may contain some promotion / advertising contents. Sorry for any inconvenient caused. I will study well before edit / create the contents. Also will consult the experienced user. I hope you can unblock me and i will make useful contributions. I hope you can give a chance to enjoy the wiki again!

Decline reason:

Since you are still evading your block, and since your unblock does not attempt to address this, I am declining your appeal. Yunshui  11:37, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Note that I typically don't ask questions that I don't already know the answer to, but are you also editing under another username, in violation of both the improper use of alternate accounts and attempting to evade a valid block? DP 09:37, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Junior Writers Awards, a page you created, has not been edited in 6 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Thank you for your attention. HasteurBot (talk) 01:30, 8 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Upperhouse01. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Junior Writers Awards".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Junior Writers Awards}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save page", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 12:00, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
