flagicon[edit]

Please do not replace the use of {{flagicon}} in an article with manual Image use - if you feel the image is sub-optimal then it'd be best to change the template (i.e. which image it displays) rather than replace each use of the template. The whole idea behind the template is to isolate articles from such changes. Thanks/wangi 22:04, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It seems like it would be a difficult task. Please see my note and let me know if you think it would be possible. Uris 22:15, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
To be perfectly honest i'm not bothered, so long as you leave all uses of flagicon as they are. I don't see that big of a deal really... /wangi 22:18, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
But the point is that the {{flagicon}} usage produces a far inferior image and makes Wikipedia look terrible by using it when it produces such bad results. Uris 22:20, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No, it doesn't - you think it does. It's an icon, it's only a representation - it's not meant to be 100% accurate. Before reverting the hardwork of others getting flagicon to be used in place of tedious and brittle manual image markup can you please get some consensus behind your view? If others share your concern you'll probably find a better solution too (i.e. some condition template code in the flagicon template?). Thanks/wangi 22:25, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's why I put the question on the flagicon page. To get some help with it... probably 99 people out of 100 would probably agree that with {{flagicon}} it currently produces an inferior image with the lines running together and the colors so far off. Of course 100% accuracy is impossible, but something greater than 40% would be better! :O) I agree that modifying the code of {{flagicon}} to produce the superior icon would be better than manually replacing all of the template references, which would be grossly inefficient.
