AFDs[edit]

Instead of reverting to your flawed reasons on AFDs, do try and formulate BETTER reasons instead of ones that would provoke alteration in the first place. MOD 16:32, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As I found the deletion of List of alternative hip hop musicians to be controversial, I moved it to AfD. NickelShoe (Talk) 20:58, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hip Hop Portal[edit]

Hey, im trying to help out with the portal and I was thinking of adding a News section in there. In it we can state recent events or recently released cds, etc. What you think? Tutmosis 00:01, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

50 cent pic[edit]

Yet at the same time, his style has been heavily criticized. Even on the basis of popularity (which may need to be verified), I still do not see why his picture should be included in a article concerning lyricism.--chub 17:04, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Categories[edit]

You deleted categories from a number of articles that had separate same name categories. The vast majority of Wiki articles don't do this; The main article is the one that has most of the information about the subject and the categories are there for browsing for similar articles. Removing the categories from the main page makes browsing for similar articles more difficult. Read this Wiki guideline also:

Wikipedia:Categorization/Categories_and_subcategories

"THE TOPIC ARTICLE RULE — When an article is the topic article for a category. Articles should be placed in the category with the same name. However, the article and the category do not have to be categorized the same way. The article belongs in categories populated with similar articles." Crumbsucker 13:37, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Portal[edit]

Sorry I forgot to leave you a message. Umm about the portal, as you can see I changed the color which in my opinion didn't look good then and dont look good now. Can you pick out better colors and change them at Portal:Hip hop/box-header. I love to see which colors you pick or if you wish you can suggest a color scheme. Image copyright problem with Image:50 rapping.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:50 rapping.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. Fallout boy 02:30, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If it is CC licensed, make sure to indicate that the copyright holder has licensed it. It is suggested to copy and paste the permission email. I would also suggest adding it to the 50 Cent article, as the image there is only fair use.--Fallout boy 10:51, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1[edit]

Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of their stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
  1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
  2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
  3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
  4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
  5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
  6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
  7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
  8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.
Signed...

Image Tagging Image:50 rapping.jpg[edit]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:50 rapping.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. Jkelly 07:15, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have any reason to believe that the blogger at thecelebrityblog.com is the original author of any of the images that they are rendering? Even if they were, their license is CC-NC, which qualifies as speedy deletion here. Jkelly 08:22, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think, and am very open to the idea that I am wrong about this, that the attribution that you see on other websites is for people reusing the written content of thecelebrityblog.com. Since thecelebrityblog.com doesn't explicitly state where its images come from, we're sort of stuck with just guessing; maybe they do take some of their own photographs. CC-NC is non-commercial use only; we disallow that license because it is incompatible with creating a free, reusable encyclopedia; the same reason we disallow "Wikipedia-only" content. It really is a pain to find to find free, reusable images of celebrities. Does this clear everything up? Jkelly 17:04, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

American hip-hop musicians by instrument[edit]

I agree, it's a bit of a worthless category in it's own right, but I don't think it does any harm either, and it's in keeping with the categorization guidelines for musicians. B.Mearns*, KSC 18:28, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How do you feel about putting Category:American rappers in both categories, American hip hop musicians and American hip hop musicians by instrument? I'm not going to request deletion for the category, but if you feel that strongly about it, go ahead (it won't be uncontested, though). B.Mearns*, KSC 18:34, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Why would I not contest it? I'm the one who created it, don't you assume I had a reason for doing so? However, I really couldn't care too much less about this, so if you really think it's worth your effort, I won't bother contesting the deletion request. However, the Project to organize the Musician categories exists, so it's very possible that someone down the line will recreate the category in keeping with the guidelines of the project. B.Mearns*, KSC 18:44, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. B.Mearns*, KSC 18:47, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for advice...[edit]

Hey thanks for advice.

However, I'm afraid I have to disagree. "Hip Hop" is a name and as such deserves to be titled with Capitals as any name would. I feel to call it "hip hop" or "Hip hop" is not truly representative of the culture.

Thanks!

Musical Artist Wikiproject renamed[edit]

The project has been moved to WikiPedia:WikiProject Musicians (or shortcut WP:MUSICIAN). I wasn't sure if you're watch list was automatically updated for the move, so I just wanted to let you know. B.Mearns*, KSC 21:16, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My (HereToHelp’s) RfA[edit]

Thank you for supporting my RfA. I’m proud to inform you that it passed with 75 support to 1 oppose to 2 neutral. I promise to make some great edits in the future (with edit summaries!) and use these powers to do all that I can to help. After all, that’s what I’m here for! (You didn’t think I could send a thank you note without a bad joke, could I?) --HereToHelp 12:13, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I proposed this for deletion, and also nominated the associated category as well. "Hip hop singer" is a misnomer; there are artists who can both rap and sing (a better idea would be a Category:Rapper-singers or something similar), but 70% of all modern R&B singers are "known for frequently appearing on hip-hop songs". Considering that most of the reading audience thinks that anyhting with a black singer is a "hip-hop" song, something like this only seeks to confuse people, and isn't based in verifiable source/reference material. --FuriousFreddy 16:30, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Snap[edit]

If you type in snap, the disambig page gives you snap (music), where an article already existed about snap music. I merged snap music into snap (music). It wasn't a move. I haven't heard it called anything but snap, but anyway it was a merger, and I wasn't that interested in where exactly it went. Yanksta x 21:50, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

rapping FAC[edit]

looks like the FAC period for this article has now ended (its been removed from the list, guess they didnt get round to updating the tag to "former FAC" on the talk page). re "subject matter" section, it doesnt *have to* be prose, but only IF all those bullets can be fleshed out to something more substantial. just having 2 sentences per bullet makes it too list-like. e.g. "diss raps" what are the techniques for dissing? what are you "allowed" to insult someone about, is anything taboo? you can also expand on what "the dozens" is (yes there's a link but the article as a whole should be self-contained). why are eminem and canibus notable diss rappers? why is e.g. ice t not? just an example. also please note previous comments about spelling mistakes. i think once the spelling and "subject matter" sections get fixed it would be ready for renomination (but see also objections of jkelley and cvene64). good luck, it took me 4 attempts to finally get an article featured! rgs, Zzzzz 12:56, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Afrocentricity[edit]

A few months ago, you redirected an article about Afrocentricty to Afrocentrism instead.

I created the Afrocentricity entry in order to differentiate the two concepts. Whereas Afrocentrism is more of an ideology that is situated largely outside of universities, Afrocentricity is an academic approach to data that characterizes research about (and by) black subjects. If you were to perform a keyword search on "Afrocentricity" vs. "Afrocentrism" in the Journal of Black Studies, you'd find that the articles that deal with "Afrocentricity" are very different in form and content from those that deal with Afrocentrism.

I believe the distinction is important not only because it is intellectually correct...but also because the current debates in the Afrocentrism post obscures what I think the central value of Afrocentricity is (as an academic enterprise).

It may not be possible to revert a redirect. But I plan to try. I wanted to inform you in advance. For what it is worth, I am a professor with expertise in African American politics, and African American Studies (among other things).

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2[edit]

The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.

Asher D(2)[edit]

Hi,

Just to let you know - you deleted this article because there are two articles about Asher D: I've put it back because they're actually two separate articles about two separate people who happen to share the same name.

Group X[edit]

I removed your deletion proposal from Gröûp X because I really doubt it'd be uncontested (I'm contesting it, for one ;)). I do think internet phenomena are inherently notable if widespread enough ("Group X" gets 913,000 google hits -- admittedly not all related to the band, but a large number of them seem to be). After all, they're part of history -- internet history. If you still wish to delete the article, you'll need to do it through AfD. - furrykef (Talk at me) 13:35, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Beatboxers own page" ????[edit]

If a dead rapper isn't notable enough for his own article, how might one be able to add said dead rapper to the Dead rappers category. It seems like the Beatboxer, beaing dead and being a rapper, should go into the Dead rappers category. It's too bad with a the high-powered minds behind the software, they can't even come up with a piped link/cat combo tool. BabuBhatt 16:45, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cent[edit]

Hello, I see you've recently edited {{cent}}. This is quite all right and I encourage you to help keep it current. Group by nationalities[edit]

Hi there, thanks for your message. So, are you saying that even there is only one group is actually under the hip hop groups by nationalities we still keep it under hip hop musicians catagory? It seems redundant. Is it your own rationality or it is indeed an official policy to follow such hierarchy? Please advise. Peace2. Invisible Unicorn 23:17, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I see the point. Seems like you have been doing a good job on hip hop related articles and categories, that's cool, keep it that way~ Invisible Unicorn 23:35, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

--Chubdub 14:55, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't want to edit war over this, but it's been pretty well established that it's a guideline. I don't see why I should respect rv per talk page. please dont revert back till discussion is over. you didn't take it to discussion first but just went ahead and removed the guideline. However, I get the feeling if I revert we will be in an edit war. Note the edit you referred to did not make it a proposal. It is not a proposal. It has been proposed, and adopted. I'm sorry you disagree with that, but if you wish to un-adopt it, shouldn't you get a consensus? I think that's the way it's done. Steve block talk 19:57, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello......[edit]

Hello. I was just wondering if you could give me some feedback on how to improve the Illmatic article. It will be extremely appreciated if you decide to do so.

And by the way, I plan on nominating rapping for the next hip hop collaboration, and ultimately nominate it for FA status. Its unfortunate that it wasn't admitted in the first place, seeing as you had adressed the issues the opposition had brought up --Chubdub 17:41, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Excuse Me?[edit]

Actually, you were out of line. I believe I only made three reverts; the other reverts were made on the school computers by another student who pointed out your mistake. You're doubt in my facts is obscene and even when I cited the truth of them you're still doubting me. If it comes to it, I can have the administration of the school contact you to verify my claims. I have been at the school for 12 years and if I got anything out of it, it's my knowledge of it's quirky history.

I have no idea what the three revert rule is and I don't plan on making any other edits in the next 24 hours. This was the only edit I planned to make at all; you impeded my progress though.

Goodnight.

My school email could verify it. The fact that I know the yearbook name (sojourner) can name the headmaster (Ms. Magee; I know her son) and can tell you it's on Marlboro and Loudon road; off Abbey Road, two streets on the grid away from Queen Terrace and located a minute away from St. John's Wood tube station [location of the abbey cafe] all prove that I'm not lying. I had a meeting scheduled with Justin Haythe when he was visitting. Which is strange, because he was listed as an uncited alumni before I ever added anything. I believe you started meddling because you didn't believe Steve-O went to the school. Well he did; he used to skate across the street from the tube station. The only mistake I made was not properly knowing how to cite on wikipedia. This website is very clear usually, but the instruction are somehow confusing as hell.

So I believe that should verify that I go to the school. I can list the classes I attend and the room numbers too, but I don't feel like putting out unnecesarry information about myself in forums that anyone can read. Plus, I share my IP adress with the rest of my family, I believe, so blocking me would be rediculously totalitarian of you. Two students verified the changes from seperate IP adresses (one of which was registered to the school in question), so that should have been enough.

Thanks for the message about external linking, I'm trying to figure out the coding here... I'm new. Unfortunately, the school generally doesn't release a lot of information on the internet. The Yearbooks I own and look at are the most up to date records kept. You should have more faith that not EVERYONE is lying.

Sorry, If I'm piling on or jumping down your throat. But I want to get these changes made. Out of curiosity, why is it only the students that need verifying rather than the number of awards given to the middle school news paper or the number of issues in circulation?

Well I didn't lie, I'm sorry others have. I have now verified my material, the changes have been made and we should be all set here. I'm sorry to have bothered you.

Where would I link to if no website contains this information?

Weaving (mythology)[edit]

Hey, if you like that one you should check out Puck (mythology), "Since, if you "speak of the Devil" he will appear," — thats unreferenced... and "An early 17th century broadside ballad, "The Mad Merry Pranks of Robin Goodfellow", which is so deft and literate" thats pov. While you're at that one, you'd better check out Fionn mac Cumhail, completely unreferenced and you'd better check out Chanson de geste too "Indeed, until the 19th century, the tales of Roland and Charlemagne were as important as the tales of King Arthur and the Holy Grail, and the Italian epics on these themes were still accounted major works of literature" full of POV. - FrancisTyers 21:50, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good thanks, I have work tommorow though, and I'm still working on finishing two essays for Monday... Interesting stuff and I shouldn't be working on Wikipedia, but I can't help myself ;) If you get a spare couple of minutes, could you look over Mythical origins of language, I started it up yesterday, and although it has the promise to be an interesting subject, I rather suck at writing. I was rather hoping JFAS would take a good job at improving Weaving (mythology), but it seems that he/she isn't interested :( - FrancisTyers 22:01, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I recently was scrolling into the WP:WEB, and I saw your messages. I wished to let you know that I wholeheartedly agree with you. I would be willing to fight the "guideline" with you, if you wish, and possibly build a conscensus. The page sees anything with an article as notable, regardless of its popularity. Yet, if a page has high popularity, it can be seen as unnotable. Quoi? So, I think that the page could do with a survey, and a conscensus vote. Please leave a message on my talk page, even though it is an IP, and I will get back to you. Or, E-Mail me at sbloemeke2@yahoo.com. Cheers! 68.192.25.106 16:06, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Yes, I did read that proposed guideline, and I think it is a good guideline. However, my concerns lie elsewhere. I will vote for the guideline if you wish. However, my concerns are on notability in regards to alexi ratings and search findings.
