Categories

You deleted categories from a number of articles that had separate same name categories. The vast majority of Wiki articles don't do this; The main article is the one that has most of the information about the subject and the categories are there for browsing for similar articles. Removing the categories from the main page makes browsing for similar articles more difficult. Read this Wiki guideline also:

"THE TOPIC ARTICLE RULE — When an article is the topic article for a category. Articles should be placed in the category with the same name. Image copyright problem with Image:50 rapping.jpg

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Stress Alerts The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of their stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them. The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. Do you have any reason to believe that the blogger at thecelebrityblog.com is the original author of any of the images that they are rendering? Even if they were, their license is CC-NC, which qualifies as speedy deletion here. Jkelly 08:22, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

I think, and am very open to the idea that I am wrong about this, that the attribution that you see on other websites is for people reusing the written content of thecelebrityblog.com. Since thecelebrityblog.com doesn't explicitly state where its images come from, we're sort of stuck with just guessing; maybe they do take some of their own photographs. CC-NC is non-commercial use only; we disallow that license because it is incompatible with creating a free, reusable encyclopedia; the same reason we disallow "Wikipedia-only" content. It really is a pain to find to find free, reusable images of celebrities. Does this clear everything up? Jkelly 17:04, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

How do you feel about putting Category:American rappers in both categories, American hip hop musicians and American hip hop musicians by instrument? Why would I not contest it? I'm the one who created it, don't you assume I had a reason for doing so? However, I really couldn't care too much less about this, so if you really think it's worth your effort, I won't bother contesting the deletion request. However, the Project to organize the Musician categories exists, so it's very possible that someone down the line will recreate the category in keeping with the guidelines of the project. However, I'm afraid I have to disagree. "Hip Hop" is a name and as such deserves to be titled with Capitals as any name would. I feel to call it "hip hop" or "Hip hop" is not truly representative of the culture.

Hip hop singers

I proposed this for deletion, and also nominated the associated category as well. "Hip hop singer" is a misnomer; there are artists who can both rap and sing (a better idea would be a Category:Rapper-singers or something similar), but 70% of all modern R&B singers are "known for frequently appearing on hip-hop songs". Considering that most of the reading audience thinks that anyhting with a black singer is a "hip-hop" song, something like this only seeks to confuse people, and isn't based in verifiable source/reference material. --FuriousFreddy 16:30, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

If you type in snap, the disambig page gives you snap (music), where an article already existed about snap music. I merged snap music into snap (music). It wasn't a move. rapping FAC

looks like the FAC period for this article has now ended (its been removed from the list, guess they didnt get round to updating the tag to "former FAC" on the talk page). re "subject matter" section, it doesnt *have to* be prose, but only IF all those bullets can be fleshed out to something more substantial. just having 2 sentences per bullet makes it too list-like. e.g. "diss raps" what are the techniques for dissing? what are you "allowed" to insult someone about, is anything taboo? you can also expand on what "the dozens" is (yes there's a link but the article as a whole should be self-contained). why are eminem and canibus notable diss rappers? why is e.g. ice t not? just an example. also please note previous comments about spelling mistakes. i think once the spelling and "subject matter" sections get fixed it would be ready for renomination (but see also objections of jkelley and cvene64). good luck, it took me 4 attempts to finally get an article featured! rgs, Zzzzz 12:56, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

Afrocentricity

A few months ago, you redirected an article about Afrocentricty to Afrocentrism instead.

I created the Afrocentricity entry in order to differentiate the two concepts. Whereas Afrocentrism is more of an ideology that is situated largely outside of universities, Afrocentricity is an academic approach to data that characterizes research about (and by) black subjects. If you were to perform a keyword search on "Afrocentricity" vs. "Afrocentrism" in the Journal of Black Studies, you'd find that the articles that deal with "Afrocentricity" are very different in form and content from those that deal with Afrocentrism.

I believe the distinction is important not only because it is intellectually correct...but also because the current debates in the Afrocentrism post obscures what I think the central value of Afrocentricity is (as an academic enterprise).

It may not be possible to revert a redirect. But I plan to try. I wanted to inform you in advance. For what it is worth, I am a professor with expertise in African American politics, and African American Studies (among other things).

I removed your deletion proposal from Gröûp X because I really doubt it'd be uncontested (I'm contesting it, for one ;)). I do think internet phenomena are inherently notable if widespread enough ("Group X" gets 913,000 google hits -- admittedly not all related to the band, but a large number of them seem to be). "Beatboxers own page" ????

If a dead rapper isn't notable enough for his own article, how might one be able to add said dead rapper to the Dead rappers category. It seems like the Beatboxer, beaing dead and being a rapper, should go into the Dead rappers category. Group by nationalities

Hi there, thanks for your message. So, are you saying that even there is only one group is actually under the hip hop groups by nationalities we still keep it under hip hop musicians catagory? I don't see why I should respect rv per talk page. please dont revert back till discussion is over. you didn't take it to discussion first but just went ahead and removed the guideline. However, I get the feeling if I revert we will be in an edit war. Note the edit you referred to did not make it a proposal. It is not a proposal. It has been proposed, and adopted. Excuse Me?

Actually, you were out of line. I believe I only made three reverts; the other reverts were made on the school computers by another student who pointed out your mistake. You're doubt in my facts is obscene and even when I cited the truth of them you're still doubting me. If it comes to it, I can have the administration of the school contact you to verify my claims. I have been at the school for 12 years and if I got anything out of it, it's my knowledge of it's quirky history.

I have no idea what the three revert rule is and I don't plan on making any other edits in the next 24 hours. This was the only edit I planned to make at all; you impeded my progress though.

My school email could verify it. The fact that I know the yearbook name (sojourner) can name the headmaster (Ms. Magee; I know her son) and can tell you it's on Marlboro and Loudon road; off Abbey Road, two streets on the grid away from Queen Terrace and located a minute away from St. John's Wood tube station [location of the abbey cafe] all prove that I'm not lying. I had a meeting scheduled with Justin Haythe when he was visitting. Which is strange, because he was listed as an uncited alumni before I ever added anything. I believe you started meddling because you didn't believe Steve-O went to the school. Well he did; he used to skate across the street from the tube station. The only mistake I made was not properly knowing how to cite on wikipedia. This website is very clear usually, but the instruction are somehow confusing as hell.

So I believe that should verify that I go to the school. I can list the classes I attend and the room numbers too, but I don't feel like putting out unnecesarry information about myself in forums that anyone can read. Plus, I share my IP adress with the rest of my family, I believe, so blocking me would be rediculously totalitarian of you. Two students verified the changes from seperate IP adresses (one of which was registered to the school in question), so that should have been enough.

Thanks for the message about external linking, I'm trying to figure out the coding here... I'm new. Unfortunately, the school generally doesn't release a lot of information on the internet. The Yearbooks I own and look at are the most up to date records kept. You should have more faith that not EVERYONE is lying.
