Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello VP101, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Paschimi Star have been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 20:29, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Joe, I'd like to apologise for that. I will rework the content and ensure that what is seen on a Wikipedia page is not plagiarized in any shape or form. VP101 (talk) 10:20, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for January 24[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Defence Services Staff College, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page VSM (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:30, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Rajesh Kumar (air marshal)[edit]

Hello there. I undid one of your edits at Rajesh Kumar (air marshal) because you did not provided citations for the medals. Adding content without sources goes against WP:BLP. Regards —Sarvatra (talk, contribs) 09:31, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sarvatra, only medals conferred upon directly by the President of India have citations, I am sure you know this considering for how long you have been a Wikipedia editor, and also because I believe we have had an earlier discussion about this very topic! :) Hope you're doing great! Anyway, I understand where you are coming from and respect your point of view. However, there are literally zero citations for service medals such as those concerning number of years served, whether or not the officer has served abroad or in a high altitude area, or even some general service medals. I added the ribbons gallery based on photos of the officer in question where we can clearly see what ribbons he is wearing. In your opinion, considering the lack of sources available, the fact that only ribbons awarded can be worn, and the fact that we don't have citations for every military ribbon that is on a Wikipedia page of an Indian military officer, what is the course of action that you recommend? Thanks! VP101 (talk) 15:21, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, first of all thanks for assuming good faith. Second, I totally get your point, that we add the ribbons based on medals identified from some photograph of the person in uniform dress. However, the thing is that while this approach might work in general articles, here we're dealing with BLPs which specifically mentions to add only information which satisfies Verifiability and No original research. I had this discussion with some reputed editors about six months ago on this very topic. Please have a look. Regards. —Sarvatra (talk, contribs) 17:53, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nature's Basket Title Change[edit]

Hi VP101,

I noticed that you had created the Wikipedia page for Godrej Nature's Basket, the brand has now been acquired by Spencer's Group and is no more called "Godrej" Nature's Basket but just Nature's Basket. Since only you can change the main title of the page, requesting you to change the same to "Nature's Basket". Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Apekshab97 (talkcontribs) 12:21, 23 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

January 2023[edit]

Information icon An article you recently created, Hoopr, is not suitable as written to remain published. An article needs more information and citations from reliable, independent sources to remain in the mainspace. Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline, has suitable content and thus is ready for mainspace, first place {{AfC submission|T}} atop the article, publish, then click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Concern regarding Draft:Hoopr[edit]

Drafts that have not been edited for six months may be deleted, so if you wish to retain the page, please edit it again or request that it be moved to your userspace.

If the page has already been deleted, you can request it be undeleted so you can continue working on it.

Your draft article, Draft:Hoopr[edit]

Hello, VP101. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Hoopr".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. When you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Liz Read! Talk! 03:47, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
