Help in Belarusians[edit]

I created and uploaded this image for the Belarusians article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Famous_Belarusians_1.jpg

As you can see, the information there is not filled, due the fact i dont know how to do it. Could you please, if you know how, fill it? Here are the pages of the images i used:

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild:Pawel_Ossipowitsch_Suchoi.jpg

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Alexander_Bogdanov.jpg

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Skaryna_1517.jpg

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Malevich24.jpg

I wanted the picure to be modest, but showing people who are well-known and whosse name is secured in history. Really hope for your help. M.V.E.i. 19:57, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll explain why i turned to you. Your the only one who tallked about images and the theme. I myself am not Belorusian (my father is Russian and mother is Jewish), but i had people from both of those nationalities who lived in Belarus (i myself was born in Ukraine). I noticed that all European peoples (maybe almost) have images, and Belorusians dont, so i decided to create one. I also wanted to add Alexander Lukashenko (who i strongly respect for not leeting the "democratic" mafia to do what they've done to Russian and Ukraine during the 90's. A strong leader of the people from the people, represents strong and honest spirit for me, and easily recognisable), but then i decided it's better to keep the image nutral without politics. I'll tell you why i didnt use your suggestion on the talk page: Tadeusz Kościuszko - First he has few Belorusian ruts, second as i said, we should keep politics out. And his war was in the name of Poland, nothing that has to do with being Belarusian. Adam Mickiewicz - Wrote in Polish, and most of his blood was polish, so he's not so good. Konstanty Kalinowski - As i said, we should keep politics up. Maksim Bahdanovič - Actually a nice idea! But the image is to small and it gets bad when streched. Vasil Bykaŭ - He was to involved in politics. Yulia Nestsiarenka - She's beautiful, no doubt, and notable, but she didn't break any record and stuff. M.V.E.i. 20:31, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks you for your work. In general I agree you point, but I'd like to add at least one women to this image. Unfortunately I can't remeber one. --Valodzka 12:50, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You could add another person, shure, but wont it strech it to much? If you want lets add two and split it in two rows, 3 people on every one. BUT, please, leave the "must have a woman" principle. Judge only by contribution, or it makes the pgoto redicilous with it's Polit-corectness. If you want, compare. Check out how nice the Italian people and Russians pgotos, and then check how bad the English people and French people are. M.V.E.i. 19:23, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
From reading biographies i understood that Maksim Bahdanovič is really big in Belarusian poettry, but i didnt find a good image of him. The wikipedian one is to small. Andrei Arlovski is considered by many to be the greatest ever in what he does, but that i give you to decide. P.S. The image doesnt have to be on Wikipedia, it could be on another web-site (2 of the 4 images on the current image dont appear on Wikipedia). If you want, find a woman that everybody will say: "Oh yeah, she's here because she deserves it and not because of this must be at least one woman thing". Anyway, you are the one who decides if we turned it in a two line 6 people two-row image. I personaly think that if we choose the right people for that it would be really nice. M.V.E.i. 19:36, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok we couldn't insert Arlovski because we dont have a free image. But here is an image of Bahdanovich. If you decide we turn it to a 6 people image we need one more person. M.V.E.i. 20:08, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've looked for photos of Maxim Bagdanovich and have uploaded them on Commons, so there are enough good photos. And yes, your are right, women don't have to be there, but it would be better. I've found these: Barbara Radziwiłł (it's absent in this article, but Radziwiłłs are belorusian), Stefania Stanyuta/Stefania Stanuta (be:Стэфанія Міхайлаўна Станюта, there isn't article in English, but she is the most famous belorusian film and theatre actress; I'll try to find free photo later), Eliza Orzeszkowa (but she more polish then belorusian). Other people which might be: Mikołaj Hussowczyk (but photo is small and I haven't found better), Michał Kleofas Ogiński (he was born in Poland but had belorusian roots), Zhores Alferov (there are a lot of good photo, but I haven't found free!).--Valodzka 09:49, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nice work! This one is exelent. Radzivill is not connected to Belarus history and we dont know how much Belorusian blood she has. Orseszkowa doesnt fit because, as you said, Polish. We need those who are clearly Belorusian. Oginski isn't good to for the same reason. Stanuta looks very impressive so she's an exelent idea. Alferov has Russian and Jewish roots, thought being born in Belarus. Ok so we have 5 images, 4 from the one that stands now+Bagdanovich. Now we need another one, Stanuta is the leader for becoming the sixth, we just need a free image of her. M.V.E.i. 15:07, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oleg Yankovsky is also Belorusian by the way, one of the most famous actors in the whole CIS. If we would have a free image of him it would be nice. Another potential candidades to be the 6th person are Mitrofan Dovnar-Zapol'skiy or Yefim Karskiy (the images of those two are free by the way). M.V.E.i. 17:59, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You are wrong on Radzivills. They are connected to history of Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. And this countries existed on territory of modern belarus. From Radziwill: "Recent research suggests that the Radziwill family descended from Lithuanian boyars". Herein Lithuanian mean bealarusian and name of modern Lithuania in that time was Zhamoytiya. And you wrong on Alferov. He had Belarussian and Jewish roots. I've corrected corresponding article and added reference. I'm searching for free image but haven't found yet. --Valodzka 19:11, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't found any free photo of Stanuta. Now I've written email to one site but I afraid it won't help. Mitrofan Dovnar-Zapol'skiy and Yefim Karskiy are important but not really great. I would prefered somebody more important. --Valodzka 19:11, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok no problem. The reason i offered those two historians is because the Belarusian nation didn't get much attention till latley and those two wrote many books about Belarusians, and now they are widely used. But your right, they are not known enough yet. While you get a response lets try to find an alternative in-case it wouldnt work. We need someone politicaly nutral, clearly Belorusian, and who'se considered great and unique in what he does. M.V.E.i. 20:18, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
More people i found: Symeon of Polotsk (one of those who "lay ground" for the development of modern Russian and Belorusian literature), Aleksandr Kurlovich (weightlifter, set twelve world records during his career and considered to be one of the greatest ever, many photos but unknown which are free). M.V.E.i. 20:34, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Symeon of Polotsk was more russian then belarusian. Another variants - Alexander Medved, "The Greatest Wrestler of the 20th Century" by FILA. But there is the same as Kurlovich problem with photo, Euphrosyne of Polatsk: considerable contribution in developing belarusian and orthodox culture (there are two image, Image:EufrasinniaPolackaja.jpg and ru:Изображение:Efrosinia Polotskaya.jpg but they might be to small), Cyril of Turaw -the first and finest Belarusian theologian (one small image to Image:KirylaTurauski.jpg). --Valodzka 06:43, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've uploaded another one but it isn't very good to. See commons:Category:Euphrosyne of Polatsk. --Valodzka 07:03, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This one is actually not to small. Ok so she's the sixth person, and a woman. Perfect. Ok i'm making the new version now. M.V.E.i. 14:54, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done. It looks perfect in the article. P.S. In the image page i added you as a co-author (together with me). M.V.E.i. 15:21, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Good work! But I have 2 ideas: 1) it would be better to show their in order of living: Euphrosyne of Polatsk - Skaryna - Bogdanov - Malevich - Bahdanovič - Sukhoi, 2) can you do view of image of Bahdanovich bit bigger (to shoulders). If it isn't dificult for you please, do. Thanks you in any case. PS: And why you don't you upload this image in commons? I think in would be beetter. --Valodzka 13:03, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Mmm are you shure about that? Making a certain order might make it look, wierd. I actually made it mixed on purpouse. It makes the image feel, biger. I actually tried to make the image of Bahdanovic smaller but that didn't work it became ugly (though opposite to the action of streching, it looked the same. You can try this, it's the weirdest thing. He gets one eye to big and one to small and Japanese). Actually, i dont even know how to use this commons thing. I know how to upload images only thru Wikipedia. M.V.E.i. 15:54, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not goot in working with image and desing, so let it be as is. Commons is special project for free images/media. It's better if image is uploaded there because it will be avaliable to all wikimedia projects, not only to english wikipedia. It work on same software as english wikipedia and you only have to register there. --Valodzka 07:00, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This design is better because if we already have only one woman in it then it's best to put her in the middle. I might surprise you but all my images i create with Paint (yeah, the one that comes with Windows) hhh :-P. M.V.E.i. 13:44, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Great work, you are master! --Valodzka 06:10, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
