Anders Karlsen

Have just noticed that you have submitted to have Anders Karlsen's profile deleted by speedy deletion owing to his not playing professional football. Rather confused by this as he plays for FK Bodø/Glimt who are a professional football team playing in the Adeccoligaen, the second tier Professional football division in Norway. Using your logic would you have every teams player deleted in England's Football League Two? This is not how things work on Wikipedia. As such i am removing the attempt to have the profile deleted. Regards.RoverTheBendInSussex (talk) 22:14, 17 November 2011 (GMT)

Hi there. According to WP:NFOOTY, players need to have played one game in a fully professional league, to be notable enough to have it's own article. In this list you can check which leagues that are considered fully-professional. The top four leagues in England, including Football League two are listed as fully-professional, while Tippeligaen is the only league in Norway that are considered fully-professional. So, I'm listing Anders Karlsen for AfD instead, since he isn't notable according to Wikipedia's standards. Have a pleasant evening. Mentoz86 (talk) 22:23, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

The limitations of "IP-editing"

I am satisfied with only editing from an IP-address. However, one of its limitations is that in this way I cannot start articles — only contribute to them.--85.166.141.237 (talk) 14:22, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

2011 Norwegian Premier League

Both Rosenborg and Tromso had 46 points after Round 27. So Rosenborg is not the only remaining challenging team for Molde. --81.109.153.239 (talk) 18:56, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

That is what I in Norwegian would call "a truth with certain modifications", but you have a point. The thing is, Tromsø lost the posibility to catch up with Molde on 28 November (friday) two days before Molde was supposed to "settle" the league title home against Strømsgodset. But Molde "only" drawed against Strømsgodset, and had to wait for the result from the Rosenborg-Brann match (which started two hours later), before they could celebrate the league title.
You could mention Tromsø aswell, but then Vålerenga might be mentioned aswell(which lost the posibility to catch up with Molde on monday 24 November), since it was those three teams that chased Molde in the end. If you don't understand, you could check out this website, and check how the table looked like after the games 24 Nov, 28 Nov and 30 Nov. I hope this cleared it for you. Mentoz86 (talk) 19:36, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

You're welcome. I tried to write it in the edit summary on 2011 Norwegian Premier League, like "Not true, because Tromsø played 2 days before", but then I misspelled, and pressed enter instead so the edit summary was "Not true. Before".. :P Mentoz86 (talk) 21:18, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Veigar Páll Gunnarsson transfer 2011

I think your article about Veigar Páll Gunnarsson transfer 2011is ready as a stub. Your current sandbox article has my vote for demonstrating notability. Raio Piiroja contract investigations

Suggestion for a new article. The Raio Piiroja contract investigations are ongoing investigations into of one of his player contracts — investigations started by Norwegian tax authorities, and an investigation by Norwegian police that lead to arrests (not including the player himself). A Norwegian tax authority (Kemneren) has put a transfer lien (pant) on property owned by the player at Gressvik in Fredrikstad. Reference re: pant: VG sporten page 2 on 2011-12-14.

The proposed article should be linked to the Fredrikstad club, Morgan Andersen and Raio Piiroja himself. I have seen that Vålerenga has been mentioned in the news, but I am not sure if the relevance stands encyclopedic scrutiny.

--85.165.229.124 (talk) 11:47, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Now that your sock-account have been blocked, you are coming to me to create the article for you? You have to stop and reconsider what is worth a mention on wikipedia, because not everything that is mentioned in the news are worth an article on wikipedia. You remember the John Obi Mikel case, also Morgan Andersen ? Where is that article? Much more notable then some crappy estonia footballer that didn't pay his tax. If you compare it with the Gunnarson-transfer, the media have talked about that matter for 4-5months now, while this thing about Piroja have media known about, but didn't wrote about before they realized that Morgan Andersen is involved... GOCE request update

Norwegian anon

Hello. You're probably right that they're the same person. They could be blocked for block evasion, if the geographical and editing similarities convince a reviewing admin that they are the same editor. But it might be easier just to give the new one their final warning (I gave them a level 3 this morning, so it shouldn't be long) and then see what they do next. On past experience, they'll probably stop for a few days to give us time to forget about them :-) The other anon was allowed to continue for far too long purely because people did forget about them... If, as is likely, they do start again after the final warning, they can be reported to WP:AIV and blocked, and it might be an idea to then mention on the AIV report the geographical and editing similarities to the already-blocked anon. If we both keep an eye on their contributions, the disruption shouldn't drag on the way it did with the earlier anon. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:54, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

See you complimented them on getting it right for once, just after I reported them to AIV for yet again not bothering with totals in stats tables, this time at Erik Nevland. ;-) cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:19, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
Indeed. The encyclopedia needs people with enthusiasm, so long as they can channel it in the right direction. Trouble is when enthusiasm makes them do things now and quickly rather than taking a bit longer to do it the way someone else wants it done. Let's hope he does come back with a willingness to learn. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 15:47, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

DYK nomination of FK Fyllingsdalen

Hello! Your submission of FK Fyllingsdalen at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Nyttend (talk) 16:25, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Every sentence needs to have a citation. You don't need to have a citation at the end of every sentence (if you derive a paragraph of information from just one source, it's quite fine to put the citation at the end of the paragraph), but every sentence needs a citation after it at some point. Does this answer your question? I'm not completely sure what you're asking. Nyttend (talk) 03:24, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
I don't know. If you can find a source that discusses their 1990-1993 championships, the league in which they were playing, and Huseklepp's status as their most notable player, then you only need one citation. Conversely, you'll need multiple citations if you got that information from multiple places; if one source talks about the championships, a second about the 2009 relegation, and a third about Huseklepp, then you'll need three citations. It completely depends on where you got your information. You can see what I mean by looking at an article I wrote recently, Christopher C. Layman Law Office. Look at the second paragraph: citation #2 works to cover the whole paragraph, except for a chunk of information at the end that I got from citation #1. Because everything except the last partial sentence comes from #2, I placed a citation at the end of it. If I'd found a source that mentioned everything in the paragraph, rather than just everything before the #2 citation, I could have used a single citation for the whole thing; that's what I did in the second paragraph of another new article, Georg Cronenwett House. Nyttend (talk) 03:34, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
Given what you told me, I'd suggest that you remove the "most notable" part entirely and replace it with a statement that they're the only two Fyllingen players to have been capped for the national side. That way, you'll be following the source exactly and not going beyond it, but you'll be able to imply that they're the two most significant former players. Nyttend (talk) 21:36, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
By the way, there are some small wording issues that could be improved; I'll approve the article for DYK even if you don't change them, but it would definitely help if you can work on them. (1) What is an "indicative vote"? Do you mean a public opinion poll? (2) What do you mean by "great engagement" — do you mean that there was a big dispute or "great controversy"? (3) You refer to "the borough" twice without explaining what it is. What or where is it? Again These are general issues, not reasons to reject the DYK. I understand that English isn't your native language; please don't think that I'm unhappy about the way you write. You're doing far more than I am in any second-language Wikipedia; I've never been able to do much of anything at other languages' Wikipedias. Nyttend (talk) 22:01, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
I've approved the article for DYK, now that the sentence about the two players is done. About the wording issues: (1) I think this sounds most like an opinion poll, since the people whose opinions are asked in an opinion poll normally aren't the ones who get to choose what happens: either they're a part of the group that gets to decide [for example, an opinion poll of likely voters before an election] or they're not at all a part [for example, a group of random people who are asked what a company should do in response to a major event] of that group. (3) Okay, I see what you mean; I didn't know what was a borough of what. The main reason I asked about it is that the article didn't explain what place was a borough (for all I knew, it could have been a third place that wasn't Fyllingsdalen or Bergen), so since now that you've explained that Fyllingsdalen is a borough of Bergen, that's quite fine. "Borough" can mean many things in English (perhaps you're thinking of the boroughs of New York City, which are parts of a city?), and at least in the United States, the term "borough" is most commonly used for a specific type of municipality. For that reason, I didn't want to try to guess what the borough was, thinking that it would be better to ask you for help. I expect that most readers (including me) will be completely satisfied by the simple statement of Fyllingsdalen being a borough of Bergen. Thanks for all of your help and all of your patience here; I hope that I've been helpful and not causing problems. Nyttend (talk) 13:26, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
You're quite welcome; glad to be of help. I definitely don't work with football articles very much, so I felt slightly awkward the whole way through. Thanks for putting it together! Nyttend (talk) 13:08, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Dear Mentoz86

Many thanks for your comments on the naming convention for season articles that you posted on the Finland task force Talk Page - your interest is much appreciated. You will probably have noticed that I placed a small navigation device - a vertical navbox - on a few of your 2012 pages. I have found the navbox to be a very useful device and have placed a similar infobox on many league season pages in Sweden and Finland with the result that page views/traffic significantly increased. I would be interested to know your initial views? Would the box be better with Norwegian names?

The navbox has called a small stir with a couple of Administrators (see Question regarding style and location of navbox "xxxx in Fooian football" in (league) season articles. I am not sure what the future will be for the navbox but it is a concept that I would like to discuss further with the Finland task force.

I am leading WP football initiatives in Finland at the moment and another taskforce member - Reckless182 - is the key player in Sweden and leads the Sweden task force. In this respect as you are the leading WP player in Norway I am wondering whether you might like to join the Finland task force. Would it be OK if I added you to the list of particpants? This would be in an advisory role and at the same time can assist Nordic cooperation. It could also be a good way to hear now and again about various issues that Editors face and how to meet them.

Kind regards (Finnish Gas (Finnish Gas 21:29, 27 February 2012 (UTC)).

Hi there. I have seen those nav-boxes on some swedish articles, and I find them very useful. I was tempted to add it to some Norwegian articles aswell, but then I found out that the Swedish league don't have a template like Template:2012 in Norwegian football, and I thought either one of those was enough, but it looks nice after you've added it.
I am a little skeptical when it comes to the Finnish task force as my impression is that you are the only contributor to Finnish football, and that it might be more appropriate with a "Nordic" task force or something similar. WP Football states that "The subject must be large enough to attract enough interested participants but small enough that editors are not overwhelmed with tasks." But I can see that you have two other Finnish editors added to the list, and since you need one more to actually create the task force I'm added my name to the list to get you started. My role in the task force will be limited to writing about expatriates in Norway and as you say: Nordic cooperation. Mentoz86 (talk) 16:22, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
Many thanks for agreeing to join the task force - it is appreciated. There are a couple of "unsung heroes" - that keep current pages up to date - who hopefully will join in the future. I will reciprocate if a similar group should be set up for Norway in the future. Kind regards (Finnish Gas (Finnish Gas 09:06, 14 March 2012 (UTC)).

Problematic IP

Hello, I just noteced you have been having the same problems with the same IP, so I just wanted to let you know that after seing that the IP absolutelly ignores every approach or warning from any of us, I kind of asked HJ Mitchell (the admin who previously took action against the IP in a similar situation) to help us to solve our problems here. I noteced a number of editors have been reverting his vandalism, however as the areas are different (football, aviation, etc.), seems that he has menaged to keep on doing this as we failed to report him further. But he has been reverting on daily basis now, so I was wondering how to put an end to it, so between the option of making a ANI report, or calling the attention of an already familiarised admin, I have opted for the second one, and I asked for help here: User_talk:HJ_Mitchell#Problematic_IP. If you feel that I missed something, please feel free to add it there. Best regards, FkpCascais (talk) 22:23, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

"Women's football clubs"

The Category:Women's football clubs in Norway should not exist in its current form. Hundreds of Norwegian football clubs have fielded teams in the women's league system, the cutoff at First Division is arbitrary. Thousands of clubs have fielded girls' teams. The category should be reserved for clubs only for women, and there are a few of them: FK Larvik, Verdal FK, Team Strømmen, Athene Moss, Amazone Grimstad, the not yet notable Amasone Asker etc. Geschichte (talk) 15:52, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, that sounds reasonable. But do you mean club with only a women's team, or clubs with only a notable women's team (not a notable men's team)? If I'm not mistaken, Manglerud Star IL and Kongsvinger IL have their men's team divided into the "toppfotball" section, while the women's team is left in the main sportsclub. And you also have IL Kvernbit, which participated in the Norwegian Women's Cup in the 1990s, while the men's team have only played at lower levels. If these three articles is notable as football clubs (KIL Toppfotball and Manglerud Star Toppfotball have their own articles), it's because of the women's team, should these be in Category:Football clubs in Norway, or can they be placed in the women's one? (Sorry for the "disruptive" questions, just want to get this right) Mentoz86 (talk) 19:25, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
I'd say the football team doesn't even have to be notable for the club to be categorized in "football clubs". If the club is notable for something, and has fielded a senior football team for either gender at some point in history, it belongs in the category. Geschichte (talk) 09:21, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

I believe it's club, since team is more used when referred to a national team. Here's an good example, link. But I could be wrong as well. If you are not in favour of it, I could revert my edits back to the previous version? Arbero (talk) 10:15, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

I see you are right, I must have missed it. I will change it back to teams then. Is everything else fine? If not, then please tell me. Arbero (talk) 10:18, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Template:Did you know nominations/1966 NASA T-38 crash

Can you please remove this from the prep area? At Wikipedia_talk:Did_you_know#Template:Did_you_know_nominations.2F1966_NASA_T-38_crash, I have expressed plagiarism concerns and the article was not fully referenced. --LauraHale (talk) 12:28, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Template:Did you know nominations/Mural with Blue Brushstroke & Mermaid

You were the person who moved Mermaid (Roy Lichtenstein) to the queue. Since you only moved one to queue, I want to use different QPQ credit. Could you please note the revised QPQ use and close Template:Did you know nominations/Mural with Blue Brushstroke & Mermaid. I am going to consider the other article with another hook.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 21:41, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

I've closed it. Mentoz86 (talk) 14:34, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
I presume that since you made no comments, you are O.K. with changing to the single article review.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 15:09, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, for me it's the same really, if it's split up or bundled into one hook. But as there have been a great number of Liechenstein DYK's lately, I guess combining those would be a good idea. Mentoz86 (talk) 15:14, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
I am talking about my QPQ change with yesterday's edit at Template:Did you know nominations/Mural with Blue Brushstroke & Mermaid. Are you talking about the same thing?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 15:24, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Aah, you are talking about the QPQ, I thought you were talking about the clousure :P To be honest, I've seen you written "9th of 12 in ..." in three different DYK nominations, and I don't know the point of switching them back and forth. But yes, I've noted it and I'm fine with it :) Mentoz86 (talk) 15:28, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Three? The original, the one at issue here and where else? (obviously i wrot Xth of 12 12 times, but 9th 3 times?)--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 16:53, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Hønefoss BK history

The history in the lead section of Hønefoss BK is sketchy. It was not founded through a merger, but through a split which began in 1997 and was completed in 2009. I think an article should be made about the now-defunct multi-sports club L/F Hønefoss (which was indeed a merger). Here, other sports such as athletics and speed skating should also be highlighted. The Hønefoss BK article should say that the football club's independency stems from 1997, but that the club itself traces its roots back to 1895 (as per the logo). Do you agree? http://www.honefossbk.no/h/klubben/fakta. Geschichte (talk) 21:37, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Yes, I agree that we could have a separate article about the mutli-sports club here. But I believe that the article about the football club should cover the football branch in the club since 1895 (even though there are "nothing" to write about prior to 1987). This connection reminds me of the football club Viking, and the multi-sport club Viking, and this club (Hønefoss) was according to themselves, founded in 1895 and was the football branch of L/F Hønefoss until the multi-sport club was defunct in 2008. I'll try to rewrite the football-article a little, but do we have any other Norwegian football clubs that used to be a part of a multi-sports club, except Viking and Hønefoss?
