I saw you reinserted a link because you wanted a discussion. I have reverted the edit again, and ask you to discuss on the talkpage of IP Multimedia Subsystem.

But first some basics. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a linkfarm or the yellow pages; pages are linked because they add to a page, and when that is doubted, such inclusions are discussed (the onus being on the editor who wants to include the link). Some rules are layed out in our external links guideline, which is follows our site policies, like e.g. 'What Wikipedia is not'; especially the sections 'not an internet directory' and 'not a repository for links'. Also the argument 'why biased industry books and tutorials are OK, but an OS community project is "advertising"' is not a proper argument, it does not address why your link should be there, it is maybe just an argument why other links should not be there. Also for that, I would ask you to discuss on the talkpage.

That being said, I get the impression that you are a specialist in the field, knowledgeable on the subject. Maybe you could expand the document with content, and use the information as a reference.

I hope this explains a bit, but if you have further questions, don't hesitate to ask (you might also want to have a look at our WikiProjects, where you might find others interested in the same subject). Happy editing!! --Dirk Beetstra T C 09:07, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, many thanks for taking the time to respond to me. I was partially upset because probably last time you forgot to login and the revert appeared to be an anonymous. Then I will try to keep it short:

  • got the point about linking, will not bring the link up for discussion unless there will be need for it as a reference
  • I have tried actually first to discuss this on the Talk page there, but not one reaction in 1/2 year; given the size of the discussion and how "religious" some guys there get about a technical topic, I should've just dropped it. It is incredible how many evangelists you can find there, but just a few actually reading and understanding the specs or being technically honest.
  • I am actually one of the developers of that OS project, so I am probably biased, but also I've been working on the topic since 2004. Anyway, I will see if I can improve anything, but I think that I will rather choose some pages where my help could be more beneficial, in more technology centric pages.
