Welcome to Wikipedia![edit]

Hello Vinodm, welcome to Wikipedia!

I noticed the Bracegirdle article, the normal format suggests it should be it is now at Mark Anthony Bracegirdle would you like me to move the article there?

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.

Leftist Politics in Sri Lanka[edit]

I think this is an interesting subject to you, so you can continue this with my guide lines given below. I think it is helpful to you.

  • British colonial era and Sri Lankan people's uprising.
  • Forming of the GCSU.
  • Forming of the LSSP and CP.
  • 1953 Hartal.
  • General strikes in public sector 1960's.
  • Forming of the JVP.
  • 1971 youth uprising.
  • 1987-89 insurrection.

Thank you.

Bracegirdle[edit]

If the article is moved to Mark Bracegirdle it will leave a redirect to there from Bracegridle, as per Elvis, which is redirected to Elvis Presley (and Pilate -> Pontius Pilate), my formatting of dates was purely to avoid the redirect. Having read your notes on the article's talk page I seem to already upset you over those - didn't mean that at all, so I'll refrain from further edits to the article. BLOCKED![edit]

I have been blocked by the 'Hall Monitor' for 'serial vandalism'. I wrote immediately, but received no reply. I have therefore sent again this email via the relevant page:

My Ip address as given by your page is

220.247.230.151

I searched for this on the 'blocked' log, but have not been able to find it for the past 2500 users (ie dating back to 15 December).

I have edited after this. I am at a loss to know the reasons for this. I have definitely not vandalised any pages.

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Anti war rally c1940.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. CLW 13:33, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Hammer sickle and four.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Hammer sickle and four.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 02:58, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:SLTB logos.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:SLTB logos.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:24, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Shannon Murray[edit]

A tag has been placed on Shannon Murray requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. --Aktsu (t / c) 23:45, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image licensing[edit]

Hey there...

I am going through a number of images that have some minor licensing issues. I came across Image:Jeanne1958.jpg which you uploaded. The licensing on this image is not complete as it was uploaded many years ago. If you have any questions or issues, please drop me a note on my talk page. Thanks. --Jordan 1972 (talk) 00:56, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Vinodm! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to these articles, it would greatly help us with the current 938 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Locations in the World with Sri Lankan names[edit]

Not meaning to bury you in messages, but can I ask if you're planning on updating the Locations in the World with Sri Lankan names article soon? It looks like you were intending on making an alphabetical list, but stopped at C. The page may be deleted if it remains like this for a long time. I also have to object that I'm not sure any of those names could really be called Sri Lankan other than the obvious case of Ceylon. The etymology of Anaconda is unknown according to etymonline.org, and Baddaginnie is only "according to local legend" a Sri Lankan name, and the article almost contradicts itself, saying in the second paragraph that it was named after a river, and only later mentioning the "I'm hungry" etymology. Soap 16:55, 22 September 2010 (UTC) Why do you rely on some idiotic website like etymonline.org without reading the Oxford English Dictionary? There is a whole corpus of work on the Sri Lankan derivation of "Anaconda". As for Baddaginnie, it is established that it is a Sinhalese word. I will not revive this page because I am sick of the sad antics of the editors of Wikipedia.[reply]

The article Locations in the World with Sri Lankan names has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

it is a very short list, with 3 of its 5 entries dubious

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Soap 23:38, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
