Disambiguation link notification for June 6

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited India in World War II, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hyderabad (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Dear T. Vishnu Vardhan,

Today, I saw that you have edited the Hindi wiki page hi:मोहन पाण्डेय, That page written as a blog. So if you have any information about मोहन पाण्डेय then please put some references on this page. This page is not attached with any other wikipage so it is very difficult for me to increase this page. So if you can please help that page. Otherwise that page can be deleted in few days and that will not be better for Hindi wiki. Thanks☆★Sanjeev Kumar (talk) 22:33, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi મહાથી, you are doing good work on Gu Wikipedia. I just thanked you for the efforts you are putting, by using the new Notifications system called Echo deployed on GU WP also. See About Echo here. You too can use congratulate others for their contribution on Wiki:) Best --Vishnu 07:34, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi Visdaviva. I notice that you've edited the (now deleted) article NITHM, which seems to be the focus of a course assignment by a number of students at that institution. I wonder if you know - and whether you'd be able to put me in touch with - the course tutor for the program. He has clearly struggled to prepare the students for editing here (several of them have already been blocked), and I'd like to encourage him to engage with the Wikipedia Education Program to help the students contribute constructively (and not coincidentally, to prevent the potential damage caused by a large group of accounts with similar editing interests and not enough understanding of how Wikipedia works!). Much obliged, Yunshui  14:52, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Hello Yunshui, thanks for your message. The article was being created by enthusiastic students at NITHM, where I was invited to organize a Wikipedia Training program, and was not a course assignment. Also this was meant more to be a Telugu and Hindi Wikipedia training program than English WP. Have since then informed the students about the core principles and five pillars of WP and asked them to not rush with creating new articles. Happy to share that all the students who took part in the workshop have volunteered to be part of a WEP :) Hopefully this could be converted into a successful WEP once the institution approves it. Cheers, --Vishnu 06:51, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
Ah, good; glad to hear you're on top of it. If I can be of any help, please let me know. All the best, Yunshui  11:00, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
Hi Visdaviva. Just a note to let you know that after a chat with Jimfbleak I've unblocked those students whose accounts were locked down; they should all now be free to edit. The usernames are a little problematic, but fall within the remit of WP:ISU and so are probably okay, although it couldn't hurt for those students with "-nithm" suffixes to request a name change at WP:CHU if they return to editing here. Yunshui  12:03, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
Hi Yunshui thanks for all your help. Have informed them about the problem with their Usernames at the beginning of the workshop. Have told them about the option of changing their name. Thanks again!--Vishnu 14:28, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

Karnataka villages

A user was creating almost 100 articles on Karnataka villages. He was just copy pasting same content everywhere with very little change citing a Bijapur government site. Some of his long list of Karnataka villages included Ambalanur, Angadageri, Aliyabad, Gunaki, Bolawad, Basanal, Bastihal, Balabatti and many more. This was taken to ANI, where a user pinged me. Right after I joined there all these articles were deleted Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Multiple_identical_articles_about_different_villages_in_India

It is one of their sample article that I got from there and saved under my userpage User:Titodutta/villages/Bommanjogi. His all articles were like this. Most probably they are just spamming, but on other hand, it is sometimes very difficult to assess village articles. Perhaps you could give some suggestion? In Karnataka, are villages notable enough ? --Tito Dutta (talk) 17:39, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

Not all villages of Karnataka are notable. Probably they are best fit to be in Kannada Wikipedia as within the Kannada linguistic universe it would be notable relevance. To the best of my knowledge, the villages mentioned above are not notable. Hope this helps. --Vishnu (talk) 07:39, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:54, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

Supporting Indian Wikipedia Program resource distribution

In 2017 - 2018, the Wikimedia Foundation and Google working in close coordination with the Centre for Internet and Society (CIS), Wikimedia India chapter (WMIN) and user groups will pilot a program encouraging Wikipedia communities to create locally relevant and high-quality content in Indian languages. This program (Code name: Project Tiger) will:

Provided resources are the sole property of the beneficiaries and should be used for the betterment of the movement.

If you're an active Wikimedian, and interested to receive support from this project, please apply. It will take around 10 minutes of your time, and will ask descriptive questions about your contribution to Indic Wikimedia projects.
