Copyright[edit]

This is in response to your claims of some pages being copyrighted to Hollywood Records and Disney. As you know, all edits are released under the GFDL. Please make sure you read WP:Copyrights and that you understand you are essentially releasing the contents of any edits that you make. I have taken off the "copyright notice", which now just says that Hollywood Records and Disney ask that all edits are made within reason. I do agree withe GFDL, for the record. However that does not mean that Hollywood Records and Disney do not give me rights to copy rights (just not on this site). Vmatikov

It is reasonable to ask, but please be aware that no such request can be enforced. That is, edits that may not meet with the approval of Hollywood Records or Disney may still be made, so long as they are appropriate for Wikipedia. That's the nature of Wikipedia. Still, I find it unlikely that either company would have a problem with an encyclopedia article or, if they did, chances are that other editors would also have a problem. Neccesarily, I think that they would have a problem with editors. I know this for a fact, people come and they put "top secret" information down that is extremely fals (however no one in the genral public actually knows), and that can cause issues. These types of free-content sites are the only real isuue to this topic (not that I don't like them). Otherwise, I think that we can drop this topic, however reference it. --vmatikov

If Disney is going to have a problem with people editing the page in general then the page has no place on Wikipedia. However, you seem to be saying that Disney would only have a problem with people adding non-cited information to the page. If so, that's great. Wikipedia has a policy against that sort of thing already, and such information should be reverted.

If on the other hand, Aly and AJ had a shocking sex scandal (obviously speaking hypothetically here), it would be completely legitimate to put information about that scandal on the wikipedia page. Again, if Disney (or you) has a problem with this, you are misunderstanding what rights you both have given up. First, I understand everything (its not like I wasn't being hypothetical). We have given up very clear rights, and that is a taken risk. Secondly, I am talking obout non-cited info (and yes, Disney has reason for being on this site). And thirdly, no system no matter how advanced, can detect false from truth in the given case. Only the people who truly know can understand. On the other hand, we know what is true and what is false about them, and if we don't, they (aly and AJ) do. But you get what I'm saying, right? People say very interesting things sometimes to get themselves personal and and/or public publicity. Personally, I think that not having copyrights has more advantages, as if this were to happen, hypothetically, that we could monitor this more carefully. --vmatikov Note: Use better examples, one(s) that match their ages, as on request by them, even though they were laughing at your example.

Image[edit]

My only problem with doing this is that I am not responsible for the addition of the picture. If the user that added it (Rosepuff12), as cited on the picture page, supplies additional information about the picture is the only way that that will gain neccesary rights. I do not know know the history of that particular file, only that I may have taken (that angle, as it was take from 221 different ones; only two published, which were 0 and 1West degrees; I took 1West degree) of the picture.I have added a picture called Aly&AJ1WEST.jpg, which is its equvialent and supplies information. --vmatikov

My sources are the company I work for, The Walt Disney Company. However, they have not given me the details of this movie (or its decided name) yet. The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Employee[edit]

Hi. I know you've been getting frustrated recently about the images you've been uploading. If I remember correctly, you work for the Walt Disney Corporation. If so, you are probably a sufficient source to indicate that an image has been released for promotional purposes. However, we do need evidence that you are really employed by them. I am not sure how to go about doing this. One possibility is a scanned copy of your pay stub but you'd want to black out any information such as your address. Another would be a scanned letter on letterhead indicating that you are permitted to release images for promotional purposes to the Wikipedia (though Walt Disney Corp would still own copyright). Despite the fact that I wish for Wikipedia to be the ultimate encyclopedia, I have other endeavours in business, I am most likely going to stop uploading images to Wikipedia. I once took a long break from doing it, and that was a very good time. Wikipedia Stories Project[edit]

My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. I'm chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who make and use Wikipedia have so much to share.

I'm scouring user pages looking for inspiring, motivating and interesting stories of how Wikipedia has affected the lives of people. I'm asking questions like "How has Wikipedia changed your life?", "What's the most interesting story you have about Wikipedia?" and "Has Wikipedia ever surprised you?"

Last year, we used the annual fundraiser as a way to show the world who it is who actually writes Wikipedia. We featured editors from Brazil, Ukraine, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, India, United States and England. This campaign was a huge success, resulting in the most financially successful fundraising campaign ever. It was also a campaign that stayed true to the spirit of Wikipedia, educating the public that this free top-5 website is created by volunteers like you and I.

This year we want to highlight more Russian-language Wikipedia editors, so I am in the process of planning a trip to Russia to interview editors.

If you or someone you know (or have heard about) has been positively affected by Wikipedia, or have something interesting to say about Wikipedia I'd very much like to hear about it!

Proposed deletion of USIX[edit]

The article USIX has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not appear to meet WP:GNG. A basic WP:BEFORE search does not turn up multiple reliable sources that are both independent of the subject and provide significant coverage. Results are mostly false positives (other things called USIX, optical character recognition mistakes for UNIX or UNIA) and Wikipedia mirrors. The only thing that could be considered significant coverage is from https://www.listofpopular.com/computers/which-operating-system-is-the-best-most-popular-os/usix/, but that source copies its content from http://usix.rosweb.ru/ (archived version) and is thus not independent and listofpopular.com is not a reliable source to begin with.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
