DYK for Hutch BMX

On 6 January 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Hutch BMX, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a bicycle shop in Maryland became a major BMX bike manufacturer in the 1980s? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Hutch BMX. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Hutch BMX), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Personalized Userboxes

I have many userboxes that I would like to be created since I cannot do them myself as I don't have the rights or I think I don't have permission for that.

@Rodrigo1198: I've created the userboxes, however I cannot 100% guarantee that some of the logos will stay in the userbox as they might be permitted only in articles. And just to let you know, anybody can create userboxes although it can be time-consuming or difficult if you are inexperienced in doing so. If you have anymore requests, just let me know.

Is there a way where all userboxes stay in the same row and not overlap to another one leaving user box on wone row and another user box on a different row. You can check my user page to see what I’m referring to. Rodrigo1198 (talk) 20:59, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
@Rodrigo1198: There is a way to do so, and I've done it for you on your userpage. If you want it on the right side of the page, you can add style="float:right" after the {| at the top of the column. Waddles 🗩 🖉 21:02, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
Is it common for images to not show up on the userboxes after doing that setup, the images for Real Madrid, Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs are not showing up? Rodrigo1198 (talk) 21:19, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
@Rodrigo1198: That shouldn't happen, so it looks like they were removed by a bot since they are copyrighted images and can only be used in articles. Waddles 🗩 🖉 21:31, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
Can I upload images that can be used in Userboxes? Rodrigo1198 (talk) 21:43, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
or that is not possible to do? Rodrigo1198 (talk) 23:05, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
@Rodrigo1198: I'm not completely familiar with copyright rules, but I do know that logos like the Circuit of the Americas and Chicago Cubs are more free to use since their design are simple and not complex enough to be a copyrighted logo. I also think the logo needs to be used in at least one article for it to stay uploaded on Wikipedia, so you wouldn't be able to upload them yourself. You might be able to find images of the players, a sports game, or the home stadium/arena to replace the removed logo image files if they're available in Wikimedia Commons or are free Flickr images. Add information for 2 Wikipedia articles

Hi WaddlesJP13!

Please can you add vehicle data information (production years, assembly, car height, car width, car length, car wheelbase and car weight) about these 2 Donkervoort car models like you added for Donkervoort D8 and Donkervoort S7:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donkervoort_S8 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donkervoort_D10

Thanks A TUZI (talk) 10:32, 8 January 2022 (UTC)

@A TUZI: Hello, apparently I've never added any data to the other articles before, and just added categories. However, I still added infoboxes to the pages Donkervoort S8 and Donkervoort D10 for you. Waddles 🗩 🖉 17:24, 8 January 2022 (UTC)

Thank you. Can you add also vehicle andinformation (production years, assembly, car height, car width, car length, car wheelbase and car weight) on Dutch Wikipedia for these 4 models to be on these links: https://nl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donkervoort_D8 https://nl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donkervoort_D10 https://nl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donkervoort_S8 https://nl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donkervoort_S7

Or ask someone on Dutch Wikipedia to add them. Since Donkervoort is a Dutch car manufacturer and doesn't have information on their Wikipedia language about these models. A TUZI (talk) 12:03, 9 January 2022 (UTC)

@A TUZI: I apologize, I won't be able to make the edits or request on the Dutch Wikipedia as I can't read, write, or speak Dutch, and using Google Translate still leaves a risk of me getting things wrong. I don't really contribute much outside of the English Wikipedia and occasionally the Spanish one. I recommend that, assuming you speak Dutch, you should make the request there on the talk pages for the cars. Waddles 🗩 🖉 19:35, 9 January 2022 (UTC)

WP:AFC Helper News

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Thanks for your comment on my draft article (Draft:Skandra). I included as many non-interview sources as I could find. There are several interviews in there, but the range of material is rich enough. The artist is real and the references I found reflect the best of what's available. Could you approve the article and move it to the article space? This is the first article I've written here, so I'd like to see it get approved. Thanks! MattBad (talk) 00:25, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

Page mover granted

Hello, WaddlesJP13. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

If you do not want the page mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! — xaosflux Talk 15:13, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello WaddlesJP13,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 819 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 859 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022

New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello WaddlesJP13,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Backlog drive

A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Misc

There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 11084 articles, as of 06:00, 13 May 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Notes
  1. ^ not including another ~6,000 redirects
  2. ^ The number of weekly reviews reported in the NPP feed includes redirects, which are not included in the backlog we primarily track.

We Were Hyphy

@WaddlesJP13 Thanks for putting the Orphan box on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_Were_Hyphy

I'm new to creating pages. I followed the instructions on the Orphan box and added links to the page from various other pages. The Orphan box said to remove the Orphan box after links were added. So I did that too!

Like you, I am a human. Unlike you, who only makes mistakes sometimes, I make mistakes a lot, like a LOT a LOT!! :-D

If I didn't add links correctly, just let me know!

Oh. And I see you're a fan of football. Me too! Although not so much recently, as I grew up in Ireland and am pretty much disgusted with the cesspool of money that European leagues have become. But that's a discussion for another day! :-D

Thanks again for adding the Orphan box! ThatGasolineSmell (talk) 00:23, 21 July 2022 (UTC) Jason

I'm also new to Talk so if this isn't how it's done, forgive me that too!!

Hello, WaddlesJP13,

I read your essay before deleting it and found it very interesting. Before becoming an admin, I mostly worked with category creation and recategorization and never did new page patrol so it was interesting to read about some of the frustrations faced by page patrollers. I'm not sure why you chose to delete the essay, I know essays don't have to reflect a specific POV, but I learned something from it. Thanks for taking the time to write it. Liz Read! Talk! 04:56, 23 July 2022 (UTC)

@Liz: Thank you for the message. I only tagged it for deletion because I thought it would be useless/meaningless to anyone else, but now that I understand that other people might find it interesting, is it possible to restore it? Sorry if this is an inconvenience. Waddles 🗩 🖉 05:53, 23 July 2022 (UTC)
It's no problem at all with CSD G7s! Happy to do it. If you have second thoughts, you can also always move it to User space but that's your call. Liz Read! Talk! 06:05, 23 July 2022 (UTC)
@Liz: Thanks! I'm thinking I might move it to my userspace at some point but I'll probably leave it as is for now. Waddles 🗩 🖉 16:47, 23 July 2022 (UTC)

I don't think you should have marked Gravity chess as reviewed, it was a rather dreadful article full of original research. I had to remove about 80% to make it somewhat acceptable. Fram (talk) 11:29, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022

New Page Review queue August 2022

Hello WaddlesJP13,

Backlog status

After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.

Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Coordination
MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
Open letter to the WMF
The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
TIP - Reviewing by subject
Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
New reviewers
The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.

Autopatroll granted

Hi WaddlesJP13, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! JesseW, the juggling janitor 17:24, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

IShowSpeed

I see you have moved the IShowSpeed page to the draft space. I understand your decision, but I believe that a move to the main space is extremely defendable. IShowSpeed easily passes WP:GNG with the article being supported with reliable sources such as 2 Yahoo! News articles, 3 Insider articles and an article in the Washington Post. I don't believe review by AfC is necessary. Célestin Denis (talk) 14:51, 2 October 2022 (UTC)

@Célestin Denis: Going through AFC is a safer move, and does not run the risk of having the article be speedily deleted or have it run through the AFD process all over again. Besides, I'm not entirely sure if the article is ready yet. Reviewers tend to have stricter guidelines regarding internet content creators like YouTubers and Twitch streamers, and with the vast majority of the article's references regarding suspensions, the article will most likely be deleted or moved back to draftspace anyway. For future reference, it may be probably better to just let all drafts awaiting review be reviewed to avoid things like that. Waddles 🗩 🖉 15:01, 2 October 2022 (UTC)
The article wasn't gonna get speedily deleted because CSD:G4 doesn't apply to the article. And if this article gets to discussion deletion, its numerous sources from major publications will defend the article perfectly. Twitch streamers do not tend to be subject to stricter guidelines, it's just that most of the time major publications don't cover social media influencers and their sources instead come from small e-sport publications. This is not the case here. Célestin Denis (talk) 15:14, 2 October 2022 (UTC)
@Célestin Denis: It might not have been deleted but still would have been likely moved back to draft or gone through AFD. I probably would have accepted the draft because I personally think the references meet WP:SIGCOV, but I have a COI with the page itself as the initial creator of the current draft, which was moved from the mainspace to where it is now via an AFD discussion. What I learned from that discussion is that it doesn't matter which site a source is from for it to not be considered significant coverage, and apparently news articles regarding bans are not. Like I said, it's probably safest just to let it go through the AFC process. Waddles 🗩 🖉 15:28, 2 October 2022 (UTC)

Assistance with making my page sound less spammy

Hey WaddlesJP13!

I'm new to the Wikipedia editing game. I've randomly made small edits but this is my first time really creating pages so I could use some help. I noticed you added that my page Apache Iceberg was written like an advertisement. I know you're likely busy but if you have time could you help me identify which areas of my article seemed spammy and how I can avoid this writing style. I did take an approach of using some quotes from Apache Iceberg's site and maybe that gives it a marketing tone. I also wanted to showcase some companies using it and linked to various Medium blogs owned by those companies that talk about their usage. Should I focus on better sources like Datanami etc..? Thanks for all you do on Wikipedia!

Stub sorting

Hello WaddlesJP13,

I noticed you marked an article as a stub using the {{stub}} template. Did you know that there are thousands of stub types that you can use to clarify what type of stub the article is? Properly categorizing stubs is easy to do via the StubSorter tool, and is important to the Wikipedia community because it helps various WikiProjects to identify articles that need expansion.

If you have questions about stub sorting, don't hesitate to ask! There is a wealth of stub information on the stub sorting WikiProject, and hundreds of stub sorters. Thanks! MadameOctavian (talk) 10:12, 10 October 2022 (UTC)

Hey, WaddlesJP13,

When correcting for a bad page move of a popular page, please, please leave a redirect from the bad title to the correct title. When the page is first moved to the bad title, bots on Wikipedia almost immediately move all of the article redirects to point to the bad title. If you leave a redirect, then the bots can correct these redirects to point back to the correct title. If you don't leave a redirect, then these valid redirects can be deleted as broken redirects.

You can always check "What links here" to see if there are existing redirects, if there aren't, then you neededn't leave a redirect when correcting for a bad page move. Thank you! Liz Read! Talk! 00:40, 13 October 2022 (UTC)

@Liz: Sorry, my bad, I had not considered checking for that and thought that the bad title included too many typos to be a plausible redirect so rather than checking I moved it without leaving a redirect behind. I will leave a redirect behind and take the bad title to RFD if I encounter any situations like this in the future. Waddles 🗩 🖉 00:43, 13 October 2022 (UTC)

Question about Julia Carrie Wong

@MaxnaCarta: This (Julia Carrie Wong) was a page that was patrolled by you then draftified by MaxnaCarta (I've pinged them as well). I also came across this page, other than 1, 2 I don't think the rest (pieces the author wrote, podcasts with possibly primary interviews, or blogs) constitute of WP:SIGCOV. IMHO it's borderline notable, if it is possible, could you share your thoughts on the notability of this if you have time? Many thanks! VickKiang (talk) 01:11, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

Hey. Just curious why you've marked Malmö Redhawks Holding as reviewed? That page is currently a redirect left after draftification, and is tagged for WP:R2 deletion as part of that process. My understanding is that per WP:NPPCSD, pages that are tagged for CSD are left unreviewed. Sideswipe9th (talk) 23:03, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

@Sideswipe9th: Draft redirects awaiting deletion, as well as other non-controversial CSD-tagged pages, are typically marked as reviewed to get them out of the page curation backlog since it could take them a while for them to be deleted. Waddles 🗩 🖉 23:10, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
Are you sure? The only guidance I can find on CSD tagged pages (NPPCSD, WP:NPPLOG) state that CSD tagged pages should not be reviewed. I'll take you at your word for it, but I would appreciate if you could link to the part of the guidance that I've missed please. Thanks. Sideswipe9th (talk) 23:22, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
@Sideswipe9th: I don't believe there is any set guidelines regarding tagging non-controversial CSD pages as reviewed, what I do know that I as well as ome other new page reviewers do mark them as reviewed, which gets them out of the backlog. I'm not really sure if it's something that would require a specific guideline though since at the end of it all the redirect will be deleted. Waddles 🗩 🖉 23:28, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
Fair enough! It's probably not an action I would have done, and if you and other reviewers do it who am I to argue. Thanks for the clarifications :) Sideswipe9th (talk) 23:36, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

Editing Mount Neko

Thanks for having a look at this new page, [Mount Neko]. I believe you left a copy editing tag. It would be helpful if you could be more specific about the article. Is it the grammar? the style? the cohesion? the tone? and or the spelling? that needs editing. Could you point to specific examples on the page? Cheers/ありがとう。 Naganojmmmm (talk) 21:53, 16 October 2022 (UTC)

@Naganojmmmm: Some of the paragraphs need to be partially rewritten less like it is telling how to do something and more as an explanation of how someone hypothetically would (phrases like "Take Japan National Route 144 to Sanada" or "descend the bus at Davos Bus Stop"; see WP:NOTGUIDE), and the placement of punctuation needs to be adjusted as periods and commas go before citations and shouldn't have spaces between them. New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022

Hello WaddlesJP13,

Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.

Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.

Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.

NPP backlog May – October 15, 2022

Suggestions:

  • There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
  • Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
  • Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
  • This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.

Backlog:

Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!

Reminders
  • Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
  • If you're interested in instant messaging and chat rooms, please join us on the New Page Patrol Discord, where you can ask for help and live chat with other patrollers.
  • Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be a reviewer, please ask any admin to remove you from the group. If you want the tools back again, just ask at PERM.
  • To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Help for Nanyue Yuan

Could you find any refs for Nanyue Yuan, which you previously drafitified? The current refs are unreliable travel sites, I tagged notability and left a UTP message, but it was quickly reverted the article creator (an admin), 1, 2. My search found IMO probably unreliable blogs, websites, or user-generated sites, 1, 2, 3. Could you find any more refs? Many thanks for your help and time! VickKiang (talk) 00:18, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

@VickKiang: I've marked Nanyue Yuan as well as Baomo Yuan back to unreviewed. They looked notable to me at first, but, to be safe, maybe they should be moved to draftspace and the user should be notified not to move it back without proper review first. I looked for references in Google News but only pulled up four unrelated articles. Perhaps something can be found in Google Books or JSTOR. Waddles 🗩 🖉 00:28, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

Be more careful with patrols

If you were the one that marked Dzala people as reviewed, I caution you to check the cited sources. In this case the only source that supports the existence of the subject are Christian missionary sources (non-RS), and various linguistic sources that discuss Dzala language but not a distinct people/ethnic group. You need to be checking the sources carefully because failed verification and non-RS sourcing is a common issue. (t · c) buidhe 02:37, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

@Buidhe: My bad, but PeopleGroups.org did look like a fine source to me, and I was unaware that missionary sources were unreliable, so I marked it as reviewed. Waddles 🗩 🖉 02:43, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
In general, I would say it's not a good idea to assume a certain website is reliable if you are not familiar with it. In order to be a reliable source for ethnic groups in Bhutan there would need to be evidence they have a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy in that area (WP:REPUTABLE), which does not appear to exist. (t · c) buidhe 02:49, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

About Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nanyue Yuan- Cunard did provide a possibly convincing rescue. Another user echidnaLives changed vote from delete to keep, do you concur that this meets notability now? If so, I could withdraw the nomination, also pinging Cunard. Many thanks for your time! I have sent you a note about a page you reviewed

Hello, WaddlesJP13. Thank you for your work on Gawar people. User:Onel5969, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

Hi there... and thanks for your herculean efforts. I unreviewed this because none of the sources talk in-depth about this ethnic group. In fact, 8 of the 9 don't even mention the group, only the language, Gawar-Bati, or the Gawar region. The ninth mentions it, but only in a passing sense. I think this should stay unreviewed for a while to give the creator time to add more sources (I left a message on their talk page). But if it remains in this condition for a week, I'll draftify it, or mark it for deletion.

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Onel5969}}. Please remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

Query about NPP review of Four Seasons Private Residences Bangkok

Hey Waddles. I was wondering if you could talk me through your review of Four Seasons Private Residences Bangkok. Of the three citations in the article, I think only one meets our criteria for WP:SIGCOV. I've provided a source assess table below detailing my thoughts on the sources, but in summary; citation 1 fails to meet significant coverage, citation 2 is not a reliable source (it's a real estate listing) and very likely not an independent source, and citation 3 meets all three criteria to meet GNG. Thanks. Sideswipe9th (talk) 01:09, 23 October 2022 (UTC)

Source assess table

Source assessment table:
Source Independent? Reliable? Significant coverage? Count source toward GNG?
https://www.skyscrapercenter.com/building/four-seasons-private-residences/17893 Yes Yes No Provides limited factual information about the building's construction only. Less than WP:100WORDS, and provides no other significant content on the building or its contents. No
https://www.richmontsthailand.com/buy/thailand/new-developments/four-seasons-private-residences-bangkok-chao-phraya-river ? Real estate listings are usually not entirely independent from the entity selling the building. No Richmont's is a real estate company. Per WP:VENDOR this very likely fails WP:RS Yes Contains a significant amount of information about the building and its contents. No
https://www.businesstraveller.com/business-travel/2019/02/01/four-seasons-is-returning-to-bangkok-this-year/ Yes Content written by Business Traveller staff member Yes Business Traveller appears to be a RS Yes Yes
This table may not be a final or consensus view; it may summarize developing consensus, or reflect assessments of a single editor. Created using {{source assess table}}.

Sideswipe9th (talk) 01:09, 23 October 2022 (UTC)

@Sideswipe9th: Sources 1 and 3 seemed fine to me. Though the first one isn't a lot, it seems like enough to verify some facts. Didn't think the second source was unreliable, but the presence of the last source makes this page pass WP:SIGCOV in my book. Waddles 🗩 🖉 04:25, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
Hmmm. This is concerning to me. Just below this, Scope creep has just elaborated on the consensus surrounding entries like source 1 when it comes to establishing notability. In addition, that source has no prose whatsoever, it is merely a collection of facts about the building. Such entries do not tell us why a building is noteworthy, nor what others have said about it.
As for source 2, it's pretty obvious that it's a real estate listing, both from the URL and from other information gleaned on that page and elsewhere on that site. Per VENDOR, such entries are not reliable sources, because they are written to sell a product, in this case an apartment in the building.
When it comes to SIGCOV, there are two definitions at play. SIGCOV the redirect to Wikipedia:Notability#General notability guideline, and SIGCOV the contraction of "significant coverage". While the third source does in my opinion constitute significant coverage of the building, the presence of a single RS does not meet GNG. GNG requires multiple sources, i.e. at least 2, though some editors at AfD insist on at least 3.
Per the NPP flowchart, you should have done a Google search to search for any other reliable sources about the building. If there were such sources, then you should have tagged it with {{more references}} before reviewing. If there were no such sources, then you should have gone down the path that leads to either DRAFTIFY, PROD, or AFD. I've now done a quick search, and didn't find anything that met all of the criteria for GNG. However because this is a building in Bangkok, there may be local sources Thai that could be used. So I would have drafted this article.
If I were to review more of the 2083 articles you reviewed as part of the NPP backlog drive, aside from this article and the one listed below (Devuélveme La Navidad), am I likely to find more articles that should have had an alternate NPP outcome? Sideswipe9th (talk) 22:18, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
@Sideswipe9th: I did some digging for sources for the article and found some sources:
ส่อง… Four Season Private Residence Bangkok คอนโด Super Luxury This one is from a real estate site but it's a news article describing the building.
CGD เผย Q1/65 พลิกเป็นกำไรหลังรายได้พุ่งกว่าเท่าตัว-มาร์จิ้นสูง This one appears to be discussing the profit the developer has earned from unit sales in the building.
กรุงเทพฯ โตไม่หยุด "10 ตึกสูงระฟ้า" ผุดเป็นดอกเห็ด This one talks about 10 new skyscrapers in Bangkok, briefly discussing Four Seasons Private Residences.
ไพรเวท เรสซิเด้นซ์ ริมน้ำแห่งแรกในเอเชียภายใต้แบรนด์ "โฟร์ซีซั่นส์" This one goes over the early construction of the project and its developers.
I'm not sure how many of these are reliable, but the first and fourth articles look good to me.
As for whether I have any other articles I reviewed that should have had and alternate NPP outcome, I can't answer because I don't know. I reviewed over 2,000, so it wouldn't be unlikely for there to be one if not a few more articles where I added incorrect maintenance tags or shouldn't have marked as reviewed. Waddles 🗩 🖉 23:27, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
Of the new sources and not withstanding machine fast machine translation issues; number 1 has the same problems as the property listing source currently in the article, number 2 is about the developer of the building but doesn't appear to mention the Bangkok property specifically, number 3 appears to be a local news station so I'll presume RS but the length of content about the specific building is at most 31 words long so not significant, number 4 is Thairath TV so I'll presume RS and the length of it seems OK to meet significant but I'm a little concerned that it might not be independent as it reads quite promotional in nature and may be a press release. Given the publication date of the number 4 (January 2015), I suspect that this could be an placed piece designed to drum up interest in the apartments ahead of their completion.
However, because I can't also rule out the overly promotional nature of number 4 as a Google Translate artefact and because DeepL doesn't support Thai, I would be minded to draftify the article, with a note pointing the article author towards this source for further evaluation and a more accurate translation.
On the NPP reviews, may I suggest that you take some time to re-review the articles you've already reviewed? If I look at your page triage log, on average you seem to be spending 1 to 2 minutes per page, which leaving aside reviews of redirects, is an incredibly short review time per page. For example (picked at random), I don't know how you reviewed Gulf United, Autolook Week, and Germany–Peru relations all in the space of three minutes, especially when Gulf United has 25 sources (many of which are social media), Autolook Week has 6 sources all of which are in Italian, and Germany-Peru has 6 sources in a mixture of English and German. Reading those sources and making sure they actually meet GNG takes time my friend :) Sideswipe9th (talk) 23:56, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
While I marked the article above as unreviewed and echo Sideswipe9th's concerns with the four refs provided being non-SIGCOV or promotional, at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Backlog drives/October 2022/Re-reviews 154 of WaddlesJP13's articles have been reviewed, most of which perfectly all right. I randomly checked six of their reviews and found no problems, so IMHO this is just a mistake. Many thanks! VickKiang (talk) 00:10, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
@Sideswipe9th: Well, to clear things up with the short review time for those articles, the first one I only added a copyedit tag and left it unreviewed for the next reviewer, the second one was a short stub with only a handful of refs so it didn't take too long to review (it's been expanded quite a bit but still looks good to me), and the third one was well-written enough, used good sources, and didn't have any issues to me so I marked that one as reviewed. I'm not really sure why it should take more than 2 minutes to review something like a stub with 3 sources, that seems like plenty of time to do things like adding a short description, going through the refs, and leaving any maintenance tags. Early end of the backlog drive

A few days ago, new page patrollers got the backlog to zero. Due to the unprecedented success of the backlog drive, it will be ending early—at the end of 24 October, or in approximately two hours.

Barnstars will be awarded as soon as the coords can tally the results. Streak awards will be allocated based on the first three weeks of the drive, with the last three days being counted as part of week three.

Great work everyone! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:50, 24 October 2022 (UTC)

Just a note about Devuélveme La Navidad- after I tagged notability you marked this as reviewed, though Scope creep unreviewed it. One of the criteria from WP:NSONG is Has been ranked on national or significant music or sales charts, but per WP:CHART, the Tropical Airplay chart should only be used when: If a song has charted on Hot Latin Songs or Latin Airplay but not any other Billboard genre charts listed on "Applicable US charts". I don't think this is the case here as I couldn't find if this charted the Hot Latin Songs chart or the Latin Airplay chart (if I'm missing something please point me out, many thanks!). The Allmusic ref here is just a database without a critic review, whereas this is also a database. Therefore, are there any refs I missed? If so, please point out my mistake, many thanks! VickKiang (talk) 21:36, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi @VickKiang: How goes it? @WaddlesJP13: How goes it. That is not a valid article with three database generated profiles references in it. The whole thing around reformatting WP:NSPORTS per the recent RFC was to reduce the number of sports artucles that used database generated profiles as references, a couple a time with no real secondary sources. There is absolute consensus wikipedia for zero acceptance of this practice. They are not real references. It is completely unacceptable. The article should either have been redirected, drafted or prodded or xfd'd. The band is notable so a redirect would have been ideal, but the editor's last four articles are in the same nick, so its really sloppy work. Xfd the whole lot. A message to the editor should've been left, but you might not know that. The editor might be going to Admin if they don't change their approach. I don't know why they have went down that road. I hope that provides some explanation to why I unreviewed it. scope_creepTalk 22:47, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
VickKiang and Scope creep: I had marked the page as reviewed due to the notability tag looking sufficient enough to imply that the article might not have any/enough sources that verify notability and may possibly be deleted later down the road. Since no other sources were found, should I redirect this article to the album the song is from? Waddles 🗩 🖉 23:00, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
Please do. I'll have a chat with editor in the morning. It can't continue in this day and age. scope_creepTalk 23:06, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

Question with Talk:KineMaster

I undid the user's removal of the talk page discussion, though if you agreed to remove your own comment please revert my edit. Many thanks! VickKiang (talk) 02:05, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

@VickKiang: That was the right move to restore it, I think it's best to have an archive of older talk page messages whether or not they apply to the article's current situations anymore. Waddles 🗩 🖉 21:51, 27 October 2022 (UTC)

Disambiguation articles

I suspect it will be many years before there is another occasion where I need to create a new disambiguation article that is itself the primary. WP:Disambiguation doesn't obviously describe this unusual case, specifically whether xyz should redirect to xyz (disambiguation) or vice versa [meaning which one has the content]. So I doubt that it is worth spending time trying to learn what I should have done, unless you think otherwise. Thanks for sorting out the confusion. --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 21:45, 27 October 2022 (UTC)

I have sent you a note about a page you reviewed

Hello, WaddlesJP13. Thank you for your work on Soteli Maamta. User:VickKiang, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

Hello, WaddlesJP13! I'm unconvinced how this is notable. Ref 1 is unreliable, no editorial policies, about us states it's a blog, ref 2 is a routine image gallery (non-SIGCOV IMHO), ref 4 is a one-paragraph trivial announcement, ref 3 is possibly SIGCOV despite it being mainly a routine plot summary, though the Google translated version doesn't look good to me. If it's possible, could you walk me through on how this passes GNG? Many thanks for your help!

VickKiang (talk) 21:51, 27 October 2022 (UTC)

Of course, I won't mark it for AfD as I'm unfamiliar with this subject. Many thanks! VickKiang (talk) 21:52, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
@VickKiang: I wasn't sure whether it was notable or not, so I marked it as reviewed believing the notability tag would indicate that. I checked this page and its sources again, and I'm going to leave a PROD tag on this one. I feel like there might be sources out there but I'm not too sure. Waddles 🗩 🖉 22:11, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for the PROD. I've marked this as unreviewed, so that if the creator deprods this it will still stay in the queue (per WP:NPP: When tagging pages for proposed deletion do not mark the page as reviewed. PRODed pages should be left 'unreviewed' so that in the case the author removes the tag, it will be sent back to the new page feed to be checked again.) Many thanks, if my action is wrong please let me know. VickKiang (talk) 00:02, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
