Speedy deletion of Hrvoje Banaj[edit]

A tag has been placed on Hrvoje Banaj requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Dengero (talk) 09:34, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I note that you deleted the last db-bio. I have reinstated this on the article.

Notability of Hrvoje Banaj[edit]

A tag has been placed on Hrvoje Banaj requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Ian Cairns (talk) 19:42, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image without license[edit]

Unspecified source for Image:Hrvojebanaj2.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Hrvojebanaj2.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 23:17, 19 July 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 23:17, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hrvoje Banaj deletion[edit]

Per request, I'm bringing this here. As an update for all involved, I have emailed Waleran the copy of the deleted article, requesting reliable sources (preferably in English). The relevant links can be found at WP:RS, WP:V, WP:N and possibly WP:OR. I'm sure both Ian and myself will be willing to help in whatever way possible. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 00:39, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"10:39, 18 July 2008 PeterSymonds deleted "Hrvoje Banaj" ‎ (A7 (bio): Doesn't indicate importance or significance of a real person)

10:44, 18 July 2008 . . Waleran (2,706 bytes) (←Created page with '{{db-bio}} Category:1980 births Category:Croatian opera singers Category:Living people [[Category:Croatian musical thea...')'' ''Waleran clearly knew enough about db-bio to delete it subsequently - so he clearly knew what the text said and how to approach the 'hangon'."

Did it ever occur to you that I was currently developing the article and that I could have been contacted about all this a bit more personally rather than just flagging the whole thing? The most obvious reason for my "re-creation" would be that I began to ignore warnings about someone changing the contents of my article during the time I was making corrections (the automatic warnings with the orange background), because people started to make insignificant changes to my text.

I do remember something about the hangon thing, and I think I even put it once. I don't know... But this little bit I do not understand - It says here that I "Created page with '{{db-bio}}". If I created it, how could I have deleted it subsequently? If db-bio was the flag on top of the article, it might have been the one I deleted because I thought I did meet your demands, since I put third party sources which definately ARE reliable.

One of which would be a short bio from a theatre (nation-wide known) in Zagreb, Croatia. The other one is the person's academic degree essay, which contains a biography and is held in a library of Croatia's largest University, one of the largest universities in the World (untill recently, it held just a couple students more than the largest american university). If those are not reliable enough, I don't know what is.

As I mentioned before, there is no way that third party sources could be influenced enough to translate the texts and put an english version on the Internet just so that you people could see it. I guess you'll just have to find a croat, a slovenian, a macedonian or a serb on your team that could help you. Maybe even a hungarian... I don't know. It's your job to find someone and deal with it yourselves. Although I support english as an international language and that as many things possible should be translated to english, it is extremely unrealistic to expect every source to be in english or every article to have at least one reliable source in english. However, if you fail to check my sources, I do offer you to translate some of the sources (if you find me trustworthy enough, ofcourse). There are some new sources I found recently, but as the ones before, it is all in english.

The problem is that Hrvoje Banaj is still known only in Croatia. He hasn't done much international work, but that will change soon. He is a rare expert in his work and definatelly deserves to be in an encyclopedia. He is a part of Croatian culture, and his contributions to it should not be ignored or flagged as not relevant enough. It's insulting, actually. Waleran (talk) 08:10, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
