Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Warriorprincess4christ. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Acroterion (talk) 04:03, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

November 2020[edit]

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. SO what do I do with the two pages that are in my contributions list as I was trying to create 1 inital page.... If my boss can't have his information here the way he typed it out that was sent to me in the way I was trying to post it, are they getting deleted then? I noticed they were in my sandbox... but I can't pull up the page in search....... so if they are considered promotional which was actually meant to be a bio type of thing, then what do I do with them? No one will see them if they are in my sandbox or don't pull up in a search. I need to know what to tell him. Better yet, how do I post his information so it creates a page that will be seen?

Your sandbox is a workspace, not in searchable space. I've left it there so you can work on it to try to bring it into compliance with the encyclopedia's sourcing and notability requirements once you've complied with Wikipedia's requirements for declaration of your conflict of interest. You must do that first, then address the content and the sourcing, before it could be eligible for inclusion in article space. Please read the COI notice above in detail, following the links, and make the necessary declarations. Then remove all promotional language, and find three or four good third-party sources in reliable journalism that substantiate everything in the article, removing anything unsourced and avoiding self-sourcing.
Writing an article for your boss is a classic conflict of interest that leads to this kind of trouble - it is strongly frowned upon. It is nearly impossible to obtain sufficient neutral, editorial distance, and undeclared paid contributions are violations of Wikipedia's terms of service. Most articles created under these circumstances are weakly sourced and inappropriately laudatory. Remember that you are writing for an encyclopedia - just the facts, short, simple, few adjectives, and no praise, resumes or polishing.
Please read WP:COI, WP:PROMO and WP:BIO before going any further. Acroterion (talk) 14:58, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
