Disambiguation link notification for December 14, 2011[edit]

Hi. In Hydraulic circuit, you recently added a link to the disambiguation page Power pack (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

On 27 November 2012, I disambiguated by creating a red link to Hydraulic power pack. Still waiting for someone to create an article on the topic, aka Hydraulic power unit. Looking back in hindsight, I find it perhaps amazing that I managed to edit Wikipedia for almost eight months before anyone followed up the welcome to Wikipedia message with a specific comment about my editing (and it was a bot that broke the ice). Then there are "power packs" popular over 100 years ago in France, known as "avant-train", which converted horse-drawn carriages to motor-cars. I redirected these to Powerpack (drivetrain), for lack of any better options. See Amiot (car manufacturer). – Wbm1058 (talk) 18:59, 19 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the red link from the dab, per WP:DDD. The term was first introduced to Wikipedia here back in May 2003, but nobody ever provided confirming citations. Maybe an InterWorking Unit (IWU) is just an InterWorking Labs product. Wbm1058 (talk) 00:44, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't recall the issue exactly, but at the time nuclear power didn't say "Nuclear power, or nuclear energy". Now it does. These are all fixed now, but check special:WhatLinksHere/Nuclear energy for new ones. Something needing an ongoing patrol, I'm sure. Wbm1058 (talk) 01:23, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes yes, pending the outcome at Talk:Zamboni, that link should be piped to either Zamboni machine or Zamboni Company. Zamboni machine would be best, if only it were an actual article rather than a redirect, i.e., a specific article on the Zamboni Company's ice resurfacing machines. Thanks, DPL bot. That was someone's content fork that I merged. I fixed it. Interesting that bridges (plural) did not redirect to bridge (singular). Wbm1058 (talk) 14:45, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of redirect to "Riparian buffer"[edit]

Hello Wbm1058!

You removed the redirect from "Riparian forest buffer" to the article "Riparian buffer". I put it there, because there is no article about riparian forest buffers and they seem to be the most typical form of riparian buffers. According to Help:Redirect, this is common practice (creating redirects for "subtopics which do not have their own article"). However, I'm not very experienced in creating redirects. Are there any reasons I'm not aware of why there shouldn't be a redirect like this?--Anna Mayerhof (talk) 12:05, 11 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Anna, what I removed here was a WP:Hatnote for the purpose of WP:Disambiguation, which was produced by Template:Redirect. I removed it because riparian forest buffer is an unambiguous topic, i.e. there is no need for the page Riparian forest buffer (disambiguation). You did successfully create the redirect Riparian forest buffer, and that's all you needed to do to create the redirect. Welcome to Wikipedia! Wbm1058 (talk) 12:23, 11 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, okay. Many thanks for the explanation!--Anna Mayerhof (talk) 16:24, 11 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Electronic packaging, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Voids. That was intentional. See Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2016 September 22 § Voiding. I included {{disambiguation needed}} in the edit that added the link, because it's unclear to me whether "void" means a vacuum or an air pocket (but not a vertical draft!), or something else. wbm1058 (talk) 15:32, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for December 21[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited (You Want To) Make a Memory, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Vinyl (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

OK,  Fixed. The thanks I get for this edit. On my to-do list is developing a Spell bot to flag these misspellings in real time by monitoring the recent changes. wbm1058 (talk) 14:21, 21 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Since I've gotten significant help with the task of clearing the Wikipedia:Database reports/Linked misspellings list, this "spell bot" idea has much less urgency, so moving it to deep background. wbm1058 (talk) 13:27, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Horsemen of the apocalypse Metallica[edit]

Hi, I went to Horsemen of the apocalypse and to my surprise got redirected to some band demo page instead of a disambiguation page or the main article. I added the hat note so that people could find the disambiguation page. You removed it with [revision]. But you didn't fix the actual problem which is that Horsemen of the apocalypse (lower-case a) still redirected to a thrash metal band's list of demo recordings! At least with the hat note people could realize what was going on and be linked to where they wanted to go. Instead of reverting your edit I've removed the redirect so that Horsemen of the apocalypse now directs to Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (disambiguation). Come on now!
