Welcome note

Welcome!

Hello, Werldwayd, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions, especially those to the Paul Guiragossian article.

You might like to read these pages, which helped me when I was starting:

Wikipedia can be kind of crazy, so if you need help, don't hesitate to ask. Check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} in a new section on your talk page and ask your question there.

Again, welcome, and I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian!

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Streetwize (jazz band), by Danielarrow, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Streetwize (jazz band) seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Streetwize (jazz band), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Streetwize (jazz band) itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 17:34, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Stateside (band)

A tag has been placed on Stateside (band) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 20:31, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Please read WP:MUSIC and tell me how you think Statewide meets the notability guidelines for bands and musicians. Just saying "They have appeared in a number of events live (UK, Ireland, Europe) and an album is in the making." and including a video link isn't enough. Proposed deletion of Desert Heat (band)

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Desert Heat (band), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. tomasz. 17:25, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Ben Addelman, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Samir Mallal. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 18:45, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Manu Militari has been reverted.

Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove unwanted links and spam from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. The external links I reverted were matching the following regex rule(s): \bmyspace\.com (links: http://www.myspace.com/manumilitari).

If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Categories

Thanks for your recent edits. FYI, we usually do not tag articles into parent categories when they are already within subcategories. For example, you've added Category:LGBT-related films to many articles already within Category:American LGBT-related films or similar subcategories, which is unnecessary and redundant, and actually deprecated to keep parent categories uncluttered. Thanks.— TAnthonyTalk 20:56, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

You can't use a CD cover in {{Infobox musical artist}}. It generally has to be a free image, especially if it's a living person. Non-free images are only acceptable in biographical infoboxes if it's a deceased person (see Dan Seals) or disestablished band (see McBride & the Ride). Greetings Werldwayd!

I noticed that you removed Category:Basketball tag from this article. It certainly seems if was removed by an editor who knows what they are doing. could you explain to me why this article does not belong in this category? I ask so that I may avoid doing such things in the future. Any help would be appreciated. LonelyBeacon (talk) 01:17, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

I have responded to you on your own talk page werldwayd (talk) 06:05, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
Werldwayd,
I greatly appreciate your explanation. Not being affiliated with the basketball project that you are, I certainly did not have the background to make that assessment the way you could. You have my word that I will certainly not re-add it, and should I come across similar articles in the future, I will not add the category there.
Just for the record ... this particular tournament is not a conference tournament, and there are not hundreds like it in the United States. The tournament involves in excess of 500 teams, with less than 50 states holding full state championships like this (some states only crown regional champions instead of state champions). In the absence of a national tournament, this is generally the highest team honor American teams can achieve. I doubt that makes a difference here (I'm more into school related articles than basketball, so I have no strong feelings on this). Continued luck in your editing! LonelyBeacon (talk) 16:01, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi Werldwayd, please let me know your reason for removing [[Category:Basketball|Wales]] from Basketball Wales. I only ask as you didn't include an edit summary. Hi again, Thank you for your reply. I note that you have added [[Category:Basketball in Wales]] to Basketball in Wales. Thank you for doing that. May I suggest that you include an Edit summary when making changes to articles, as it helps everyone to understand what has been changed, and why. Do you have any reason to inform me that "4-5 players from college had been categorized under the category of Category:Basketball and I removed those too, for these 4-5 basketball players were so minimal to basketball they cannot be mentioned either. If Jordan or Bird or Magic Johnson are not categorized there, can a player named Chavis Holmes or Kirk Walters ...". I have never heard of them, nor understand why you would wish to discuss them with me. Were they part of a copy and paste that do not relate to my query. Please let me know if you want me to do anything about it/them. Best, Daicaregos (talk) 08:12, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Tangram (book)

The article Tangram (book) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not appear to be notable

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Cybercobra (talk) 07:27, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Cedar Revolution, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

some of what it says is biased!

You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. MilesM11 (talk) 12:48, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

  1. Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added such as to the page Bass Odyssey do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. I removed the following link(s): http://www.myspace.com/bassodysseymusic (matching the regex rule \bmyspace\.com).
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 06:47, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

Per "Redirect as there is concensus that non of the participants is notable" - I am not sure that there is that consensus. The opinion at Talk:List_of_The_X_Factor_finalists_(UK_series_6)#Joe_McElderry_2 seems to be (albeit sometimes grudgingly) that WP:MUSIC #9 applies to the top 3 finalists. Given that the independent article says nothing other than what is already at List_of_The_X_Factor_finalists_(UK_series_6) / The X Factor (UK series 6)‎ I personally cannot see justification for a separate article, but I don't know it can be argued against on the basis you did. Jon and Tracy Morter

I've no problem with you mentioning Jon and Tracy Morter in the body of the article Killing in the Name it is just that the intro should summarize the article. I understand it is difficult to resist adding news details to the summary but we need to remember the article is all about the song by Rage Against the Machine and focus on that. (The link will probably have to go. I'd be surprised if the Jon and Tracy Morter article survives, the kind of no fun editors I've encountered wouldn't let that article last days. Most likely it will end up as a redirect back to Killing in the Name -- Horkana (talk) 02:35, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your sympathetic comment. I just cannot reinstate an entry over and over and I am of the rule of three-times reedits and refrain from that. I just hope some other colleague could pitch in with an entry for them if necessary. werldwayd (talk) 02:56, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

I've partially reverted some of your changes to Abdulkareem Khadr, you have to be careful not to remove sourced information about him - and comments like this border on POV - you are rephrasing the innocent meeting of a 10-year old child with a man who would later become notorious as Osama bin Laden's #2...as "he even met with al-Qaeda leader..." - let's not pretend a 10-year old is exercising choice in who he does and doesn't meet. Since I'm always ready to bitch when somebody makes an article worse or does an edit I consider unconstructive, I consider it only fair that I should now be obliged to come and thank you for the wikifying and linking to other articles you've done. (Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, etc) Good work on that front! However, I do think there's a certain POV inadvertantly created when you give a Canadian citizen born in Canada who speaks flawless English and was given an English name...and you put the name in Arabic in brackets as though that's the "real" name. He was named "Omar" not "عمر", etc. We don't do the same for Omar Epps for example. Also the fact their grandfather lived in Egypt is irrelevant to their introductions, per Wikipedia:NAMES#Opening_paragraph - "Ethnicity or sexuality should generally not be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability. Similarly, previous nationalities and/or the country of birth should not be mentioned in the opening sentence unless they are relevant to the subject's notability." - the fact he is "Canadian" is relevant, the fact his background heritage is Egyptian has never played a role in his notability. Actually Omar Epps is not an Arab, thus "Omar" as in Omar Epps is markedly different from Omar as in Omar Khadr. The "O" in Omar Epps is the Latin letter O whereas the "O" in Omar Khadr is the Arabic letter "ayin". I would be very surprosed for example that they called him the Americanised Omar when naming him, but rather the Arabic عمر with a "ayn". I am sure this is true inside their family as well. Withouth Arabic, not only is his personal name mispronounced, but his family name as well. The Canadians continue caling him Kadr or Qadr, whereas his name is definitly not an Englsh K but an Arabic [[Ḫāʾ] of KHA . The Arabic reproduction helps in correct pronunciation of his mispronounced name AND family name. Thus is a huge addition to correct pronunciation werldwayd (talk) 05:08, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
As far as ethnicity is concerned, an ordinary Canadian would not have been intersted at all in the time that the Khadrs were in Pakistan and Afghansitan. Believe it or not, their Arab ethnicity might have been one of the primary considerations because al Qaeda leadership is almost totally an Arab orgnaisation. All their announcements are in Arabic and its sympathizers mainly of the Arab World. So the Khadrs being Arab Muslims was a primary reason for their notability actually. werldwayd (talk) 05:19, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
Only to those who speak Arabic, less than 1% of readers I'm sure, to the other 99% it gives the illusion he's somehow "less" Canadian and has a "secret foreign name", that he's really named عمر and not Omar. If you're concerned about pronunciation, I'd suggestion appending Wikipedia:IPA for Arabic to the Khadr family article (though I doubt the individual biographies need it) instead. Per your final paragraph, it makes no sense and borders on extreme POVism - what language al-Qaeda releases its statements in is absolutely irrelevant to the spelling/appearance of the name of Canadians who followed their father overseas where he was alleged to have interacted with AQ. Sherurcij (speaker for the dead) 05:21, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
Again we should not just be "worried" how general readers will perceive a certain presentation. Simply because you have a foreign sounding name doesn't "make you a lesser Canadian". That's preposterous. Canada is a multicultural country wth many ethnicities. Canada also encourages people to be open about their language and ethnicity and not hide it behind some "sanitized" English sounding name. Perceptions in minds of readers is not something we control or base our editing decisions on. werldwayd (talk) 05:27, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
As a direct result of our conversation, now Omar Khadr has also an Arabic page [1] werldwayd (talk) 06:24, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Coffey Anderson

Werldwayd, do you have a reason for this? Drmies (talk) 02:36, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Well, Before, the article had good sections and was well-divided. After the re-edits, what happened was that all the text came in the intro, with no subsections, then every album went on to have a multiple subsection for a discography that usually should be just that, a listing of albums. It didn't look right to have no sections for bio, then to have four sub-sections for every release. I also reasoned in the edit explanation "Albums names in bold rather than separate sub-sections". Usually discography sections do not even contain tracklists anyhow. In this case, Anderson would have, just like every other artist, four lines (names of albums) and years, that's all... I think the way it looks now, is that the discography looks more like one entity as is the case with all other artists. werldwayd (talk) 03:24, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your response. Drmies (talk) 05:37, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
