Re:Alchemy[edit]

'still has nothing to do with alchemy'. Who said alchemy had anything to do with being still ? This is my material to you. If this does not suffice, I might just make you aware of some other materials 'out there'. GLOO for example. Or what about H2GO ? Or what about Compl.Eat ? Now I will ask. What is your position on genius logo or genius loci?

What I am getting at here, is that any material that I make you aware of, is assimilated by your brain chemistry. This is an observable fact. How this process exists in reason is yet to be decided by researchers of the brain. So, you have the chemistry of any material, as well as the chemistry of the brain. Everything is chemical, apart from space and light, and even Einstein suggests that these things are chemical. (Photon particle and Aether). See relativity. In order to see and remember materials, it requires chemical material changes in the brain. Even after you stop looking at something, like a word or a box, the chemical change in the brain allows you to store that image. If alchemy is defined as material transmutation, then the brain can be seen as a material transmuter; that is if you respect that materials outside of the brain exist, and that your brain is also made of matter. Alchemy is not a medieval pseudo-science. It just goes to show what you know. Alchemy is the core of most scientific pursuits at current. Nanobots are a very real panacea on the cards at present. Newton ensured this fact by his creation of calculus in partnership with Leibniz. The purpose of calculus was to reach resolutions in alchemical goals. When Seaborg transmuted lead into gold, it was the calculus of nuclear physics that reached this resolution in mathematical function.

So, re-read what I have written ; 'material transmutation' if alchemy is defined in this way. i.e turning the material of something into the material of another thing. This is exactly what the brain does. How it is done, is largely unknown.

Why do you feel the need to commit alchemy to history when it is still VERY much a work in progress and allot of actuarial sciences are still fulfilling the goals of alchemy ? Please be considerate to those who have obviously studied alchemy allot more than you have. Your obviously likely to box alchemy into scientific history, because you are after-all more interested in pagan and Celtic history. Please stick to what you know. Alchemy is not Pagan or Celtic hocus-pocus. It is a very real, and very serious core of science.

Re:Welcome[edit]

Hi Whateley23: I'm a part of the welcoming committee, and one of the things we do is watch the Recent Changes list for users who have red talk links; if a user's talk page is redlinked, they haven't received any messages yet, and it's a good indication that they are new and haven't been welcomed yet. I welcome a lot of new users, so I'm sorry to say I don't specifically remember which RC entry I saw, but that's the gist of how I found you. If you have any questions I can help you with, just leave me a message. Welcome to Wikipedia! -- Essjay · Talk 18:17, July 19, 2005 (UTC)

My Dear Fellow Whateley,

you ask me whether there was a purpose behind reverting the Mabon link on Celtic polytheism to the neopagan festival (Mabon) instead of the Welsh mythological character (Mabon ap Modron)(Whateley23 00:19, 22 July 2005 (UTC)). I am not aware of such a confusion of links and I am upset that browsers may well confuse the embodiment of young masculine vitality with a festival held in the honour thereof as a result of this apparent overlapping. I trust that I can rely on your handsome self to rectify this oversight. Yours lovingly, GeoffMGleadall 08:40, 22 July 2005 (UTC).[reply]

Neopaganism[edit]

It certainly has been a learning experience for me so far - and NPOVing isn't something you can do alone. It's the sort of thing that happens eventually if you get a big enough group of people with a wide enough range of POVs together. I, after all, have my own perspective on things... So you're welcome to help. *grin* - AdelaMae (talk - contribs) 05:27, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

TDD/Danube[edit]

Hi, I've no idea how accurate the idea is but it's pretty widespread - do a search for Tuatha Dé Danaan and Danube. See e.g. Danu on [1]. Dlyons493 Talk 14:18, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lamiae?[edit]

Hi Whateley, I see that you added a reference to "Lamiae" (identified with the Morrígan) on Celtic polytheism "due to existing early medieval translations". I'm certainly not disputing this, but I'm extremely curious: what translations are these? QuartierLatin1968 El bien mas preciado es la libertad 17:13, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vernian Process[edit]

In your recent edit on Steampunk: "sadly removing one of the seminal steampunk bands because the article was deleted." Ignoring for now the red link policy, I also thought it was a shame that the band nearly everyone considers the first Steampunk band (Hell I'm interested in the stories not the sub-culture and even I know that ;) ) so I have been pushing to get it back in a form that avoids deletion next time. You can find the sandboxed version here and there is a discussion on the main user talk page. Obviously if we can get it looking solid first it should stand a better chance of surviving the AfD.

PS: Good work stopping the Steampunk entry fom becoming listified - we have explained the poitn a time or two (key examples to help explain points, the list is there for the completists) but it clearly needs policing. (Emperor 13:17, 4 May 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Hello there, I believe from the talk page at Neopaganism that you are interested in this topic. I've set up a drafting page here which will let us assemble a good-looking, well-referenced article so that we can release it into the mainspace with a chance of surviving. I'm happy to 'host' the page but have no knowledge of Circle Sanctuary myself, so will rely on others with more knowledge for material! Please come and join us if you would like to. You are being accused of being a Puppet Master by IPSOS[edit]

After an edit war with IPSOS he has concluded that you are a sock puppeteer and are in fact me! Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Emnx. See also Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Emnx

He claims you are the :-

most likely culprit (real puppetmaster)

You might wish to defend yourself and point out the true nature of this particular editor.

This current sad affair centres on Mandrake Press and there are a few brief details on my discussion page!

Just thought you ought to know.

Perhaps we should trawl through his edits and combine forces. (Unfortunately he edited his talk page and then archived it to permanently remove criticism and prevent access to the pages history, etc.) I guess we would need to go through his contribs history to find evidence of other 'edit wars'? --Emnx 10:20, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't[edit]

Please don't post on my talk page again. Thanks. P.S. you haven't an effing clue about exactly what a double-barreled name is and why it is listed the way it is. You are trying to work from sources which you are misinterpreting. A catalog will attempt to assist the ignorant to find what they want even when they don't know what the actual last name is. Doh! coward. deleting any discussion which might be unfavorable to you? and you are wrong about citing. i have no idea why this is such a serious subject for you, either way. Whateley23 02:35, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A favour?[edit]

Would you consider resurrecting an AFD for me. I am not asking you to judge the matter on any other basis than the merits of the article.

The original reason for the nomination was entirely valid — the article clearly does not meet Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion.

As a member of good-standing you are able to reopen the discussion (I can't!!!) The closure was procedural and makes no judgement on the notability of the article; it may be renominated without prejudice by a user in good standing!

All I ask is that you judge the Mandrake of Oxford article SOLELY on its merits.

The AFD and all the details for a proposed deletion are on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mandrake of Oxford.

You might find a familiar name or two! best wishes ;-)--86.141.97.97 22:38, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

thank you for bringing this to my attention, whoever you are. personally, i've become opposed to AfDs and the Notability criterion (for articles) on principle (there's practically-infinite space available on wikipedia, so it could theoretically maintain articles on every person alive or dead, along with every business there ever was, every sport that's ever been played, every game ever designed, et multiple cetera; democracy of information would determine which articles get linked to). if i were to involve myself with this particular issue, unfortunately, it would mean that i was involved just to tweak User:IPSOS. since i really don't care about him, that's not a sufficient inducement. Whateley23 03:53, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The list is primarily for navigation purposes many of the readlinks added are to not, or questionably, notable subjects such as single school styles, the easyist way to decide notability for inclusion in the list is: Does it have an article? If so discus the notability there, if not then it's not notable. It has also been used as a spam location where external links have been added to the list in the same format as the articles. Hope that explains why the link was, and has been again, removed. --Nate1481(talk/contribs) 08:27, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alchemy FAR Review[edit]

Alchemy has been nominated for a featured article review. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. Please leave your comments and help us to return the article to featured quality. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, articles are moved onto the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article from featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. Reviewers' concerns are here.

ABUSE OF PROCESS
I wish to draw your attention to a serious abuse of process and blatant COI by IPSOS
The Mandrake of Oxford article has been marked for deletion for the second time and has also had PROD tags added twice.
The situation with Mandrake of Oxford started with an edit-war on Mandrake Press article in which IPSOS featured heavily. Whilst this edit war raged IPSOS worked hard to build up the page of a rival company (the page was started by GlassFET. It should be noted that Mandrake Press and Mandrake of Oxford are competitors.
I have just discovered that in a desperate attempt to circumvent the AFD, IPSOS is moving the Mandrake of Oxford material to the Mandrake Press article. This flies in the face of all his previous arguments regarding the Mandrake Press article.
Mandrake of Oxford does not belong in an article about Mandrake Press. IPSOS contributed to (and created disambiguation pages) and added distinguish tags linking both articles.--86.131.37.169 01:03, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please understand this is NOT to be construed as an attempt to canvas your support, to encourage you to take any action or to become involved in anyway whatsoever.

I just wanted to inform you that your user name is being cited in the following recently created (or modified) articles.

I would ask that if you do decide to act that you do so completely independently (though you are welcome to leave messages on my talk page).

Article desperately needs help from fair-minded, intelligent editors[edit]

Would you mind taking a look at List of cult and new religious movement researchers and encouraging other fair-minded, intelligent editors you might know to do the same? An editor who may not know much about the topic seems to have taken "ownership" of the article and is ignoring criteria for inclusion that have been in place for years. Admittedly, it is a controversial topic, but it seems obvious that someone actually being a researcher (having both had the requisite training as well as actually conducting at least one research study on the topic) would be required. -DoctorW 02:35, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Polytheism in Kernewek[edit]

Thank you for your interesting message. I will be studying polytheism and I hope that Wikipedia does the subject justice.

There is no word for polytheism in the Gerlyver Meur ("Great Dictionary") but many of these celtic words are simply constructed from elements like in the English poly+the+ism.

Words that begin with poly- in English start with lies- in Cornish. Words that end with -ism in English end with -ieth in Cornish. The word for god is duw. Therefore the Kernewek is probably Liesduwieth, similar to the Brezhoneg Liesdoueadegezh. Coming to think of it, I just tried typing Liesduwieth in Google Search and it came up with several results from Cornish language web pages (albeit as the more older Liesduwyeth spelling).

I don't know what other words you are interested in but paganieth means paganism. One of my favourite pagan words is neves which means sacred grove. Some of these sacred groves still exist in Cornwall and Devon. There's one in Devon near a village called Nemeton.

I wish I knew more about more Cornwall-specific gods but I only know about Penglaz. There are some lovely (but scary) pictures of Penglaz at the Montol celebrations in Penzance.
