If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Whiskeyboy radio requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you.  Glenfarclas  (talk) 02:50, 19 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

December 2010[edit]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block. PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 18:38, 19 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I created a page for a radio show / station... Since every Tv Show I've ever watched has a Wiki page with episode listings and such I didn't think this was a problem. Second, my username is MY USERNAME... it's a nickname that I've used for YEARS and blocking me because of it seems pretty stupid. I'd be like blocking Steve Jobs from making edits because Apple is his company. WhiskeyBoy (talk) 19:45, 19 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article was about WhiskeyBoy Radio, your username is WhiskeyBoy - I think it's fair to assume that you have a connection? If you intend on requesting a change of name (which is the main problem) then the instructions are in the above block notice. With regard to creating an article about the radio station, I would refer you to my email where I discussed notability, verifiability, sources, etc - when your username change request is sorted out, we can discuss what to do about any article - if you do not intend on re-creating an article on WhiskeyBoy Radio, then let us know! Incidentally, your comparison with Steve Jobs isn't quite accurate: it would be like Steve Jobs creating a username Apple and then creating an article about Apple Corp. PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 21:08, 19 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
