Neutrality

Thanks for editing my two pages. I was actually kind of hoping someone would edit it for me. Just wondering, how is it not considered neutrality if I used "Teleserye Drama Princess" or "Heartthrobs"? I was simply stating what those people were dubbed as in the Philippines and was not labeling them as such for my own personal pleasure or gratification? When you say that "Vilma Santos is known as the Star for All Seasons", by whom is she know by that name? It sounds unnecessarily promotional. It may be appropriate on the Vilma Santos page to note that she has earned that nickname, but on other pages, it is only appropriate to use her name. According to Wikipedia's notability guidelines, topics are not to be included in Wikipedia that cannot be verified by significant coverage in independent sources. I searched for any information on this project, and could only find the group's own website. As a student project, this group is not quite notable. If the group achieves its goals and places a satellite in orbit, and if that satellite accomplishes any significant science, this may become notable, but as it stands, I don't believe it is yet. by this do you mean that we cannot add projects that are being conducted in several universties as research work for the progress related information in wikipedia. like for example there may be many researches that are not yet completed but of great interest like canser treatment. so these are quite notable and certainly is enclclopedic work..

First question: Students working on satellite projects is not necessarily that notable; students work on projects like this all the time. If you can provide independent sources that show that this project is somehow more notable than others, please do. (News or journal reports documenting the ISRO support would be good.)

Second question: That's correct -- Wikipedia is not a place to create new information: that would be original research. Wikipedia is a place to gather information from many sources and present it in a single place. If the information is not available from other reliable sources, it doesn't belong here.

Third question: Projects cannot be added if they are not verifiable by reliable secondary sources. A lot of research occurs that is not notable; research that actually shows promise probably is notable, and will likely have indendent sources to verify this. All articles must be created in your own words; using anyone else's words is generally a copyright violation. However, your words must reflect facts that can be verified by other sources. For example, I can say in my own words that Abraham Lincoln was born on the 12th of February in 1809 (those are my own words), but I need to be able to provide a citation to a published source to verify that fact (in this case, a reliable biography of Lincoln would do). As for IRC, you can download the mIRC client from here; it will allow you to connect to any IRC server. I don't know which server the Wikipedia IRC chat exists on though; I've never used that facility. Finally, as to your desire to perform vandalism patrol: I might suggest gently that your command of English may not be sufficient to manage this function on the English Wikipedia. While removing vandalism can be quite automatic using the available tools, communicating with other editors about what you are doing and why requires a clear grasp of English (as that is the language we use on this Wikipedia). there have been several groups regarding Czechoslovenia emerging on Facebook recently. Basically, it's a travesty, because of course there ins't and never has been such a country. However, 90% of British people will give you a positive answer if you ask them, whether they know where Czechoslovenia is.

Do you think if I explain that it's a travesty on the first place, I could keep the page on Wikipedia?

Clearly, the idea of "Czechoslovenia" is a hoax, and as such has no place on Wikipedia. If the hoax becomes notable (i.e. spreads in significance) then an article about the hoax itself might be warranted. However, I don't think a few Facebook groups constitutes the necessary notability. Victory Forge

Hello, I recently recieved a message from you that the above referenced page would be deleted. Instead it is converted to a page that now is linked to another school called Southeastern Military Academy. I have tried to explain to orlady that the two companies are not the same she disagrees. Kindly explain your basis for accusing me of edit warring with Telltruthtoday at Victory_Forge_Military_Academy. Is it this series of edits from about a year ago where I removed a lot of unsourced derogatory content about the school, mostly added by Pframp, and found and added a few reliable sources for verification? Or was it this series of edits from last May, where I attempted to find sources for some exceptionally negative content in the article? Or is it this edit from October in which I removed unsourced derogatory content about the school added by a SPA whose sole purpose apparently is to disparage the school? Or is it the fact that two days ago I blocked the WP:SPA Govdcf after a long history of POV edits, including repeatedly removing third-party-sourced content from the article and replacing it with advertisements and apologies for the school? My point is that I have made almost 50 edits to that article over the past year, including reverting both SPAs (such as Telltruthtoday) who are trying to advertise the place and SPAs who want to disparage it. I've researched the school to find sources for the various claims made, and I've cited a lot of sources along the way. This is one of many controversial school articles where I've tried to enforce a neutral POV.

About one hour passed from the time that Telltruthtoday complained to you about me to the time that you accused me of edit warring and having a nonneutral POV. What did you discover about my POV in that one hour that I failed to notice in the past year? You are asking for "disinterested parties to review the relevant references to achieve some semblance of neutrality" -- I thought that was what I was doing all along. Of all the people who have contributed to the Victory Forge article, I believe Orlady has been the most unbiased and fair. The employees of VF have an accusatory history, and this episode of trying to discredit Orlady is yest another example. Technically this is not an old investigation if the link between Drsjpdc and Waynethegoblin has not been previously investigated. If the previous case against Drsjpdc involved a different sock, then this would probably be best handled as a new investigation (simply follow the directions at WP:SPI for opening an investigation). I'm not sure what that collection of links proves (I don't really have time right now to check them all out). The BET coverage would be an impressive credit if it were real, but since a search at the BET website for McFly's name brings 0 results, and the footage is a youtube video, I could just as easily be persuaded that the video was a fake. Since the first McFly article was found to be full of bogus information, I suspect there is a concerted effort afoot to artificially bolster McFly's credibility. The Dre McFly article was deleted twice by two separate Articles for Deletion discussions (here and here). If you had anything to say about the matter, you should have made your thoughts known at those discussions. You can recreate the article, but you must provide references from reliable sources that indicate that this artist is notable, according to the standards discussed at WP:MUSIC. If you can't provide evidence that McFly meets the criteria for inclusion, then any future article will also be deleted. As a final note, I'm not a administrator so I cannot restore the article. Land That I Love deletion

WikiDan61,

You had suggested, not five minutes after I hit "save", that the page for my book, "Land That I Love" would be taken down in a week because Wikipedia doesn't list "non-notable" books that haven't been published yet. I understand and appreciate the reasons behind that. And I responded to what I considered to be your objection:

"I understand your reluctance to list this work prior to its publication, but it's not like it's still being shopped around. Land That I Love was accepted by a publisher months ago, has been through multiple iterations with a skilled editor, features professionally drawn cover art, and has an announced launch date only two months hence. You can take down this page if you want but, on March 19 when the book is out, it'll be back up. Why make both of us go through the trouble?"

In the time it took me to write that reply, though, another Wikipedia reviewer who goes by NawlinWiki took down the page without warning for entirely different -- and erroneous -- reasons: "G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion: ad for selfpublished book". I take exception to that. It's not advertising. The entry was intended in part for promotion, but the same could be said for many if not most Wikipedia entries; I take the key word to be "unambiguous" and it is most definitely ambiguous. The character profiles and plot summary are intended as aids to the enjoyment of the book by people once they have already bought it. Also, it is most assuredly not "selfpublished". Why would I, a New Yorker, set up a dummy corporation in South Africa? I have a stack of rejection notes from a litany of other publishers and a couple years of dust collecting on the manuscript until I hooked up with Joan de la Haye at Rebel. I have not paid a dime for the editing, art or distribution services Rebel provides. They get their cut of the sales and I get mine. No advance, but no subsidy either -- just like any other non-celebrity, first-time, professionally published author.

Fortunately, I cut-and-pasted the content to my book's Facebook fan page before NawlinWiki took it down so abruptly.

What recourse do I have, if any, for this insensitive treatment?

First, let me clarify that this is not "my job". I edit Wikipedia as a hobby. I'm not an admin, I'm just another editor trying to make sure that the project retains its integrity. That being said, I have responded to the comment you left on Talk:Land That I Love on your talk page. I chose to respond on your talk page rather than on the article's talk page because I knew that page would not long remain on Wikipedia. As I mentioned on your talk page, the mere existence of your book is not sufficient grounds for its inclusion on Wikipedia. Articles on books must meet the criteria spelled out at Wikipedia:Notability (books). Meeting any one of the 5 criteria would suffice, but none of these are likely for a book that has not yet even been published. When (if) any of the criteria have been met, the article may be recreated, but if you recreate the article as soon as the book is published, as you have stated is your intention, the article will very likely be quickly deleted again. Dan, thanks for the clarification. You are right. I didn't understand the notability requirements. I'm new at this. My previous experience with Wikipedia has always been as an end-user, for whom Wikipedia is highly intuitive to use. Now, as someone trying to make a submission, I found navigating the rules and regs to be much less so. I am sorry I wasted your time. I do plan to re-post this, though, and soon if not immediately after publication. Pre-publication drafts will be made available to such widely read sci-fi reviews as Tangent and Locus, where either I, my publisher or both of us have longstanding relationships with contributors. Once we have the critical responses -- but not until then -- it is my hope Wikipedia will be inclined to let the page stick.

I wish you luck with your endeavor, and that you receive positive reviews. However, I would still discourage you from re-introducing the article, because as the book's author, you have a substantial conflict of interest. (I know, there are a lot of policies and guidelines, but you really should skim through them prior to writing articles, as it will save both you and other editors a ton of time.) However, I will tell you that the article suffers for a lack of reliable sources. Not just that no references were provided, but that a search of the internet could not produce any valid references. For a band that is so important, they seem not to have received much coverage (at least in any medium that has an internet presence). I don't dispute your numbers, and I didn't change them in the article. All I did was correctly format the table to cite the reference. However, if a credible reference is provided for a figure (and presumably the Moroccan government's own population clock can be taken as a reliable source), then one should discuss the change on the article's talk page before making a change.WikiDan61^ChatMe!_ReadMe!! 12:24, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

I'm afraid Chahal hasn't yet reached the level of notability required by Wikipedia guidelines to be included in the encyclopedia. To be sure, he is very likely a very talented cricketer, but until he has competed professionally or at a national amateur level (i.e. a national team in international competitions, etc), he doesn't merit inclusion. I don't see any mention of Chahal playing in a national level tournament. The article describes him as a talented high-school level athlete, but nothing more. If the tournament in which he played is itself notable, it probably already has a Wikipedia article; if you had included a link to that article, it would have bolstered the argument that Chahal is a national-level player. If there were specific changes that could be made to make the article non-promotional, I would have made them. The point of the {{db-spam}} tag is that the article would require a fundamental rewrite (i.e. scrap the whole thing and begin from the ground up) to become encyclopedic. Tagging of The Seagull (theatre)

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on The Seagull (theatre). I do not think that The Seagull (theatre) fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because his is about a physical place as much as a company. In any case "plays host to a regular stream of local talent, regional and national touring theatre companies" is a claim of significance, as it might get coverage leading to notability. Moreover the talk page including a discussion of notability leading to a declined Prod months ago.. Not sure if you'd come across this, but it appears to be the heart of the problem. I hadn't run into that. However, since the change is only a proposal so far, any changes are not yet appropriate. And the user's choice of verbiage ("Lowestoft closer to Norfolk") is like claiming that New York City isn't part of New York state because it's closer to New Jersey than it is to many other parts of New York. The editor is disruptive and socking. I'll have to keep an eye on developments in the redistricting though, and if it goes through, the changes can be made (and cited!). The guidelines at WP:COMPANY give a detailed explanation of what is needed for a company to be covered at Wikipedia. In a nutshell, it needs to have been the subject of significant coverage in an independent source. For a company like this, significant coverage would mean a profile in a major sports or business paper or magazine. "Puff pieces" in local publications generally don't count as significant coverage, nor do press releases generated by the company itself. Before nominating your executives' articles for deletion, I not only searched for sources about them, but about your company, and could find nothing significant. If you can provide references, that will help greatly. IEEE JMI

This is regarding the proposed deletion of the article IEEE JMI.

I respect your opinions and i do agree that IEEE is notable. But i do not agree that the individual branches are not notable. It is these Branches that together make up the IEEE. There are more than 80,000 student members of IEEE all over the world. No where in the article is it written that IEEE JMI is more notable than the other branches and if other branches do not have a page on Wikipedia then it does not imply that those branches are less notable then the one in question. Each and every society of IEEE makes it to wikipedia, then why not the individual Branches?? Another thing, there are hundreds of Branches of IEEE. IEEE cant have individual information of each and every branch on its site. At max what you can find is the name of the Branch and a link to its homepage! If you are looking for some additional information then please specify and i'll try my best to get those to you. The section of the article that describes the history of the building is interesting, but not notable. Wikipedia cannot cover every topic under the sun. It limits itself to notable topics as indicated by significant coverage in reliable sources. If you look at the history of the Yobo page, you'll find a very confusing story. I'll try to piece it together here.

1. The page "Yobo" was created on 17 October 2008 as a redirect to FC Game Console.
2. On 26 January 2010, someone edited the redirect to contain this minimal content.
3. On 4 February 2010, Eduardoe (talk · contribs) moved "Yobo" to "Yobo Gamewhere" in order to make room for a page he was creating about a completely insignificant website. His intention was to use the "Yobo" page as a disambiguation page between Yobo Gameware and Your Olive Branch Online (yobo.org). Since the yobo.org page was speedily deleted, the disambiguation page made no sense.
4. As part of the deletion process for yobo.org, I revisited the yobo and yobo gameware pages. Since I found the minimal content to be insufficient for the creation of a complete article, I restored the redirect, as yobos manufacture of FC Game Consoles appears to be their only claim to notability.

Just a suggestion in light of the dynamics of change within the orchid industry. Names that are considered obsolete by some are still being used commercially. The article has been tagged for "Primary Sources" and for "Notability". The tag itself contains wikilinks to the governing policies, but what it means in a nutshell is that the only reference used in the article is to the group's own website. This is considered a primary source, and is generally not considered a valid source for verifying information in the encyclopedia. References should be found in reliable secondary sources, that is, publications that discuss the AUTOMEET but that are not related to the group in anway. (Coverage in local media such as newspapers, magazines or television would be good, as would coverage in national or international automotive or engineering publications.) Such sources would allow independent verification of the information in the article, and would also indicate that AUTOMEET meets the notability criteria of Wikipedia. Per the Brett and Kevin Kimberlin articles, they are brothers, it is in the book by Mark Singer and the public records and there is one rather hokey Indiana website which can be linked. The article you site about Carl Levin is not really news, as it is only about one Senator's opinion. I will find a more neutral and general reference which should please all. What criteria should I include to keep the page? He did race for team lexus (http://my.is/forums/f47/new-is300-drift-king-333902/) also here is a video of him racing for team lexus (http://g4tv.com/videos/9516/FD-Houston-Rhys-Millen-vs-James-Bondurant/), He was part of team vertex and taught over in Japan, although I am unable to find a source for that at this time. You would need to include references to reliable sources indicating that Bondurant made a noticeable impact in the sport. Magazine articles, newspaper coverage, television coverage would all be good. Forums generally are not considered reliable sources. And considering that there is not even mention of a Team Lexus at the drifting page or at the List of D1 Grand Prix drivers page, I'm not sure whether Bondurant's activities on that team would be considered notable. If he is only notable as "the only driver to be banned from D1GP for conduct violations", this falls under WP:1E. He probably does not rate an article for this one event, but may rate a mention in the D1GP article (but only if that fact is properly referenced, since it is a negative fact about a living person and falls under the guidelines of WP:BLP). The article indicates that Bondurant was offered a spot on Team Lexus in 2000, but your reference notes that Team Lexus didn't compete in drifting until 2004. Even if the date discrepancy can be worked out, the fact that Bondurant raced on a team that existed doesn't prove that either he or the team were notable. The article on Chris Skinner was originally deleted in January based on this discussion. This was a consensus view of the community (although, admittedly, not a unanimous consensus). Your recent recreation of this article appears to have been deleted because the new article made no assertion of notability. I haven't seen the most recent article, so I can't speak to that. However, what I can see of the original debate and what I recall about the original article are that Mr. Skinner appears to be a person who runs a financial services firm, and as such is sometimes called on to comment on financial matters in the press. However, there does not seem to be any indication that his notability rises above that of any other financial services "guru". The press is always looking for new names to call on for comments. There does not appear to be any indication that Mr. Skinner has received significant independent coverage required to meet notability requirements. If you can demonstrate otherwise, by citing such significant coverage, you can recreate the article and make sure to cite those sources. However, as someone who works for Mr. Skinner, your motives are suspect -- it appears that you are trying to promote Mr. Skinner rather than simply inform the Wikipedia readers of a notable person. If Mr. Skinner is as notable as you claim, then your best path would probably be to request an article about him, and see if any independent editor steps up to the task. Thanks for clarification. As Wikipedia is pretty impenetrable to me to use, and as you don't think Mr. Skinner is notable - even though he runs three successful businesses, has written numerous books about banking, appears regularly on TV and is quoted extesnively in the media, and is viewed by the financial community as Europe's #1 banking analyst - we'll leave it.

If you can cite any source that indicates Skinner is "Europe's #1 banking analyst", please do. Don't take my word for whether the article should exist or not -- I'm just one editor, with no experience in banking, and not living in Europe. I can only go by the sources provided or those I can find on my own. If you can find other sources, please provide them, and the article may well live. But please keep all of the other caveats I mentioned above (about conflicts of interest and self-promotion) in mind. As I say, Wikipedia's weird non-html style language is too difficult to use, and most of the folks who know Chris would not be able to use it at all. Most of them don't even get Facebook.

I don't doubt of his acumen. I only doubt of his notability. There are a great many smart and capable people in the world who don't rate Wikipedia articles. And there are a great many other people who's capabilities fall far below average who achieve notability anyway. The two concepts are rarely related. The quotes you provide have two problems:

1. They are unsourced. I have no way of verifying that the people quoted actually said these things.
2. They are not entirely relevant. Basically, all they indicate is that these people liked working with Mr. Skinner and that he was a valuable contributor. Nice praise, but not signs of notability. Please refer to WP:BIO and see if the criteria of notability mentioned there can be verified -- significant coverage in reliable independent sources. I hear you but give up on Wikipedia. You are too incomprehensible in how to make an entry, edit entries, qualify entries etc to deal with and I now know why so few people are active contributors to your site.

You can fix it if you can provide any indication that Ms Ristova is notable, but in a manner that is not promotional. Since you are her booking agent, that may be difficult for you to achieve. Your best option at this point is to blank the article, and replace its contents with {{db-author}}, which will be seen by an administrator who can delete the article. Then you can request an article about Ms Ristova at Requested Articles. If an independent editor feels she deserves an article, it will get written.
