I'm not sure there is much you can do. If the event is not notable, as indicated by independent media coverage (not publications of press releases as the current references indicate), then the event should not be discussed in Wikipedia. If you can find evidence of significant coverage in reliable sources, there might be a chance. However, as your username indicates that you are affiliated with this event, you have a conflict of interest. You may not be the best person to write about this event, because it may seem like you're trying to advertise it, which is a violation of Wikipedia policies. Actually, I had nothing to do with the Steve Acito article. I tagged the Philadelphia Press Club Awards article for deletion under WP:CSD#A3 because it had no content other than a link to the organization's website. A different user (Wuhwuzdat (talk · contribs)) proposed the Steve Acito for deletion because it is a biography of a living person that does not cite a single reliable source to verify any of its information. The links that are provided are primary sources (i.e. published by the subject himself), and in two out of the three cases, do not verify the claims in the article. Wikipedia holds biographies of living people to a very high standard to avoid misinformation and puffery in these sensitive articles. WikiDan61^ChatMe!_ReadMe!! 13:22, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

I am no more responsible for this article than any other editor at Wikipedia. I reverted the changes you made to the article because they did not adhere to Wikipedia's policies of neutrality, but were instead unabashedly praising Dr Meyer. GOCE January Backlog elimination drive conclusion

Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive Greetings from the January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We have reached the end of the month and the end of another successful drive; thanks to all who participated. Statistics 54 people signed up for the year's first Backlog elimination drive. Of these, 40 participated. One of our goals was to reduce the size of the backlog by at least 10%. We managed to reduce the backlog by 633 articles, or about 12%. Another goal was to eliminate as many 2009 months as possible from the queue. We eliminated January, February, March, and April—4 out of 12 months is not bad! In addition, we eliminated 37% of all remaining 2009 articles from the queue. Chaosdruid copy edited Kutch Gurjar Kashtriya for 32,711 words, which is the largest single article completed in one of our drives so far. I was just about to contact you for advice. Actually, I have put up more probably on talk pages etc than actual edits, including two or three proposals for new articles. But yes I knew I would attract attention from senior editors and you are probable correct that I should continue to work substantially on talk pages. I am happy that there is not anything heavy handed directed to the account, at least.

Regarding your reverts, I would have prefered a more substantive and specific articulation of the statements which I added greater detail to but I don't think the reverts are unreasonable.

However, I am troubled by your suggestion that there is any deficit in NPOV on my part. Quite to the contrary, the wikipedia pages on the field of homelessness are not up to the standard of quality of many other areas, such as technical articles on C++ or articles on areas of major concern in the humanities and the sciences generally.

I am also trying to simply improve some of the really just awful grammar and syntax and lack of clarity and organization on those pages. I think you are right to suggest that I be careful, go slow and be careful to avoid appearances contrary to my and wikipedia's purposes.

But it is quite problematic if major edit activity, which is needed if the wikipedia coverage is going to be brought up to snuff, will be percieved as a NPOV issue.

THere is a long list of NPOV reverts others have made on these topics and more are probably needed. Insofar as you may be cautioning me regarding a perception I take your point, but I hope you can distinguish between an expert's perception of bias and introduction of technical and correct nomenclature and the opinionate trolls who usually populate the topic.

OK so you are a busy man with great expertise. Please offer me suggestions - has my talk and user page sufficiently covered possible allegations of sock puppetry. I was thinking about contacting admin and would like to know if I can do so on private email rather than publicly editable pages. Basically, any NPOV editing on homelessness will inevitably attract people who hate homeless people and I would prefer not to have that cohort stalk and vandalize my mainpage.

If necessary,I will accede to requests that I may find unreasonable if on balance avoiding administrative hassles outwiegh the loss of privacy and security to perform my work. But I would prefer to keep the account anonymous.

Also, I was thinking of forming a user group interest group whatever it might be called of people with legitimate NPOV so we can act collectively when the inevitable vandals or stealth propogaters of hate speech creep onto these pages.

Anyway, I feel mildly discouraged from helping clear up the muck of bad writing not because you are being unhelpful at all but because I can see that I am a sitting duck for people with an agenda. So I would appreciate any help on what I need to do to avoid an account suspension, in advance.

I have a lot of bona fide expertise and background in this field and I know that there is a perception that wikipedia is not kind to experts and that it forms a mob consensus. I do not believe that is true and I have more faith in wikipedia than that but I think I am highly vulnerable to having a bad experience unless I can get some admins to recognize that not only do I have good faith but I have sufficient skill and ability to warrant the really minimal level of privilege I require.

It would be helpful if you cared to point out where specifically I might be off on my NPOV and if I am I will promptly admit it.

There was no indication, either from the article itself, or from the result of any internet searches, that the museum met the critieria for inclusion. You say the museum was notable; I could find no reliable independent sources providing significant coverage to verify this. You say the museum has "the largest flag collection in Canada"; again, I could find no sources to verify this. I'm a bit confused. We contribute articles based on our knowledge and experience. Then others add, correct, edit the entry. Many of the articles on wikipedia are written by regular people with first hand knowledge of a topic. Every time the article is viewed it becomes (we would hope) more accurate. Does every article require evidence that you can find using a google search? The club in question was one of the most popular original music venues in arguable the most relevant times and places for punk rock/alternative music. I'm sure, given a chance, and some time, eventually other people would add "notable" and certainly interesting content to the article.

No, the standard isn't a Google search. The standard is verifiability. If the Space at Chase was "one of the most popular original music venues", there should be some published material to verify that fact. Not just "I know this because I was there". The published material does not need to be online, but it does need to be generally available so that another editor can access it to verify the information. Is it a problem that there isn't (readily available) any published material to verify that the venue was" one of the most popular" rock clubs. Because "one of the most popular" is subjective and not easliy verifiable. Would it make a difference if that sentence was omitted? Or would it not matter? I guess what I'm wondering is, whether or not a rock club from the early 90's NYC is notable.What would make it notable? CBGB's is practically a household name? The problem is that, although one might be able to verify that this club existed, so did thousands of others of the same type. If there is nothing about this club that makes it notable, then it does not meet the criteria for inclusion. Popularity is not exactly the measuring stick, but popularity helps generate coverage. CBGB is notable because lots of people have written about it. Space at Chase is not notable because very few (if any) people have written anything significant about it. That's the measuring stick. First of all, thank you very much for your guidelines and advice you gave me to enter and update Prof. Dr. Mario Christian Meyer’s article in Wikipedia. I did not have time to answer you sooner as I was very busy last week, and that is why I misunderstood your messages. I do apologize!

I would like to emphasize there is not a sentence that has been “copied verbatim” in this article. In fact, the text was written by the “Giant of Ecology award” Team (Gigantes de Ecologia) who deeply analysed Meyer’s publications (Paper and Internet) before awarding him the Giant of Ecology Award in 2008. This is why there are so many notes, references and quotations. Thinking the innovative approach of his work could be of a great interest to a large public, this biography was specifically written for the Wikipedia readers and has been published nowhere else. We will now rewrite it taking into account Wikipedia guidelines and your suggestions.

Regarding the links, I am very surprised they are invalid for you as they are managed by CPANEL, but I will check the reason of their dysfunction. Are you using Safari? Because, with Internet Explorer they open without any problem. Please, could you be kind enough to tell me which links do not open?

Digital economics

Please, re-review the article "Digital economics" and help me remove it from deletion list. Is there a way to move it to some sort of temp type of page, like under construction, unfinished, in progress or something like it. I really consider the topic important one and with plenty of knowledge scattered on the web. I do not believe it violates any of the rules of wikipedia, moreover it is far from finished. Also, the term "Digital economics" in fact aims to describe economic models as one found in Wikipedia and plenty of web resources existing or coming into existence. It is a bit strange that it has not been mentioned here already. I am new to wikipedia and surely will make few mistakes the first time. Hi. A minute after creation is too soon to tag an article with A3 - new users are often hesitant and put the title in first. Artwork is not generally in the public domain unless the artist has explicitly released it to the public domain. You would need some sort of proof to that effect, and I'm not sure what sort of proof Wikimedia would accept. You can try contacting an admin by asking for help on your talk page. It is unlikely that an email to you from the artist will be sufficient proof to allow the images to remain. Please refer to WP:Donating copyrighted material for detailed instructions. Basically, someone will need to send an email from an email account at annemarie-wright.com to grant the required permissions. Ms Wright should be aware that, once the artwork is released to Wikipedia, anyone in the world can download the image and use it in whatever way they choose, whether that use is consistent with Ms Wright's desires or not. Removal of the AgingPortfolio article

Dear editor, the article on the AgingPortfolio was removed on G21 copyright violation. It was submitted by the technical director of the project, Konstantin Romantsov. The IARP system is open-access and non-profit, there is never any advertising. Any part of it can be taken without a license. It was built by volunteers to help advance aging research and specifically cancer and Alzheimers. The resource is very much like PubMed.Org, but it is independent and not funded by any government. Over 50 people contributed to the project, but it is not a legal entity and there is no owner. A wiki entry is important, because it will be easier for scientists to find it. The main page of the site explicitly claims copyright. Since the "about" page does not explicitly waive copyright, then the assumption is that all pages on the site are copyrighted. If you would like to write about this project, do so in your own words. Of course, if the project is not notable enough for inclusion, the article may well be deleted again anyway. Deletion of International Legacy Giving Day

Hi Dan

I'm just sending you a message as I notice that you deleted my page International Legacy Giving Day, and was wondering if you could explain this to me and give me some advice on creating a page that won't get deleted.

International Legacy Giving Day will be observed in many countries and will not promote any single one charity. It's a behaviour change campaign and in my eyes is no different to something like Comic Relief, which has its own Wikipedia page. As an organisation, we don't fundraise for ourselves but for other charities so I don't really see how a page on International Legacy Giving Day actually promotes Remember A Charity.

Any help you could give me on this would be much appreciated.

I didn't delete the page. I'm not an admin and don't have the right to delete pages. I did tag the page for deletion. I don't recall now whether I tagged as being promotional or simply non-notable. I suspect the problem is that, while the cause may be a good one, there is no significant independent coverage of the movement yet, so there is no indication of notability. It is not sufficient to reference the book itself when writing the chapter summaries, unless the summaries are actually printed in the book itself. If the summaries are your interpretation of the main points of the chapters, that is your original research and is inappropriate. The template for books/non-fiction was really helpful. Wish we had it at the start of creating the article. The article is a class project--my students each wrote summaries of chapters of the book, which is why I'm really invested in preserving them. I understand that you don't want interpretations, but it's unclear to me how a book synopsis can be written if a person is not writing it, carefully avoiding personal interpretation. My aim now is to have my students turn the original summaries into a single paragraph (maybe 2) synopsis, footnoting Colley's book as they do so. Isaac McCormack page request

My Boss asked me to try and update our Facebook and Wikipedia pages and I tried to link it to a very brief bio of myself that can be added to later as my career progresses... as far as a "cult" following is concerned I was recently recognized by the American Red Cross of Gratiot County as a local Celebrity for their annual tractor race fundraiser. This came after having been recognized as a ARC "Hero" of Gratoit County a few weeks earlier for donating a live remote broadcast and air time on our weekly program InStep with Gratiot and Isabella County that highlighted their recent charitable contributions and upcoming fundraisers in the area.

I have read the links provided and understand all the content therein I would contend that there is nothing based in opinion as it pertains to the text within the Isaac McCormack heading and with no other page to interfere with the intended discoveries of the wikipedia user-base I feel there is really no basis for deletion of the article. Guidelines about posting autobiographies are in place to prevent users from writing about themselves. It is difficult for people to see when they are not being neutral about themselves. However, this is only part of the problem. There is nothing in the article you have submitted that indicates you meet the criteria for inclusion. Not everyone gets to have a Wikipedia article. Evidence of significant coverage by independent sources is required. A notice that a local chapter of a charity gave you an award for participating in their fundraising is not significant or independent. I am sorry if your boss has asked you to do something that violates Wikipedia guidelines. Perhaps you should show him this discussion. Point out the part about promotion to him while you're at it. The article in question was deleted after consensus was reached at WP:Articles for deletion/The Atheist Experience. I am not an administrator and do not have the ability to restore a deleted article. You could try to contact MBisanz (talk · contribs), who was the admin who deleted the article, but it is unlikely you will get any results as articles deleted by an AFD discussion have generally had enough scrutiny to assure that they do not meet the criteria for inclusion. Architect

Hi Dan, I apologize for improper posting of the information but try as I might I could not find a way to use proper citation that other than post links. I added links after my one link to the state of washington was deleted and called too specific.

As to the relivance of the legality of the term or title architect, this is very relavant and the technology industry must stop using the term in title and discription. Almost every law Ive read is very clear that its not only about company title use but any use of the word in title or descption that doesnt refer to the building trades.

A quote from Maine, "A person may not practice architecture or profess to practice architecture inside the State or use the title or profess to be an "architect" or "licensed architect" or display or use any words, letters, figures, titles, sign, card advertisement or other symbol or device indicating or tending to indicate that the person is an architect or is practicing architecture, or sign technical submissions unless the person is duly licensed by the board.".

So if you would be so kind to help me place this information in teh appropriate place in the appropraite way I would be in your debt.

Laws may be very clear that a person may not claim to be an architect without proper licensing; however it is a fairly clearly understood distinction that a "system architect" is not claiming to design buildings, but is rather a software designer. The quote above makes it clear you can't use the word "architect" in title or pretty much any other way. Its not about claim its about use of the word incorrectly and trust me, if you went thru the process to actually be a licensed or regstered architect you would understand why its important. Unfortunately, I'm probably the person most likely to be sympathetic here on WP to his cause - the term "software/information/enterprise architect" makes me grind my teeth - so if he can't convince me that his edits are appropriate, I don't see much hope. Language is moving on, and while I devoutly hope I never have to describe myself as a "building architect," I don't think arguing about it on Wikipedia's going to make an ounce of difference. Etymologically, an architect is a "master builder"[1]. Historically, this has meant a builder of edifices, but in the modern world, software projects have become as large and complex as the most complex building project, so the "master builder" of such a project might reasonably be expected to be called the architect of such a project. I doubt the bare term "architect" will ever lose its connotation as "one who designs buildings". I hope Jerry20112011 (talk · contribs) can use his cool-off period to review the relevant policies and come back a more helpful editor.

Yes, there's a clear correlation between roles, so the usage is etymologically correct. Whether or not the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners agrees is not particularly relevant - I suspect the law was written long before the new usage ever came into vogue. It seems like a bad idea to harass software people over something that clearly doesn't involve practicing architecture without a license - the IT lobby in Texas has far deeper resources and political pull than the A/E lobby; it would be better to let that particular sleeping dog be, lest the law gets rewritten in a way the board won't like. I'd be interested to see if there's ever been any action taken against anyone who's been warned - I would expect that to make an appearance in a reliable source. As far as I'm aware, Bill Gates is in no jeopardy as "Chief Software Architect" at Microsoft. All I did was add images to pages. I always looked if the images were relevant to the page and if they were, I added them. I did all these edits in good faith, hoping to improve said pages by illustrating them (further). It was never my intention to cause any harm. All of the references in the Hazlina Abdul Halim article are either from the company that employs her (i.e. primary sources), or YouTube videos. YouTube is not considered a reliable source. Actually I found it interesting that you found nothing noteworthy about an individual who is a Sports Anchor in a "small market," let alone a woman. Obviously your familiarity with the world of sports journalism is more limited than mine. I actually deleted the comment on being the first women in her market becasue there is no written citation. However the timing is interesting when you consider that she will be speaking to a graduate course at the University of Missouri on Monday on her experiences in a male dominated profession. She was asked to do so by Professor Rick McGwire who is a professor of Sports Psychology and also the coach of Track and Field at Mizzou. A little about him:

The fact that other crap exists is no excuse to create more crap. The fact that no one else has problems with your pages only reflects the sheer volume of new material being created at Wikipedia and the relatively low number of people like myself who take the time to patrol such new entries. You are free to make your comments at the relevant AFD discussions. However, a statement such as "I feel these are notable people and should stay up" without any backing related to actual Wikipedia policies is not likely to help much. Hello WikiDan61! Thank you for your friendly message regarding speedy deletion of Bad Education system in pakistan. Yes I see what you mean about ‘patent nonsense’, but what I was referring to on the article’s talk page was the 2nd criteria of Wikipedia:Patent nonsense, which focuses on ease of copy-editing (if the article doesn’t make sense then it is difficult / impossible to copy-edit). I do think that ‘impossible’ is certainly the term here: I would very much struggle to copy-edit it anyway.

It seems a shame to have to wait rather a long time for an attack/nonsense page to be taken down, when I don’t think anyone (but its author) finds anything contentious with its deletion. I suspect it will upset/offend a fair few Pakistanis and a fair few people working in the Pakistani education system just by the nature of its title. I understand your frustration with a page like this that is clearly not proper for an encyclopedia. However, you are not the first to try to extend WP:CSD#G1 to cover such instances. A rather lengthy and heated discussion occurred regarding this issue at WT:Criteria for speedy deletion a few months back. The fact is that this criterion is specifically intended not to cover articles that are poorly written, or are partisan screed. Clearly, there is no way you can rewrite this article into anything that will ever qualify for inclusion in the encyclopedia (which is why I nominated it for deletion rather than trying to improve it). But, as the article stands, the language is clear enough to understand the author's intent -- to malign the educational system of Pakistan and complain about how poorly it prepares students for a career. Whether or not the author is correct in this assertion or whether or not such an assertion is a proper topic of a Wikipedia article are separate debates; the article is not nonsense in the sense that you or I or any other English speaker can make sense of what is being said. I'm a teacher at Morinville Community High School and my students and I are working on creating a page for our school. I notice you removed what you thought was "promotional language". Perhaps you could help clarify for me how we explain that we are a Christ-centered Catholic school without sounding "promotional"?

The article, when I found it, contained the sentence: "The school’s goal is to be a welcoming, Christ-centered learning environment that opens the hearts and minds of the students to God while nurturing and educating each individual to work, live their lives to their fullest potential, and to serve others." This type of text hardly conforms to the neutrality guidelines of Wikipedia. The fact that you are a Catholic school already implies that you are Christ-centered; no further explanation is required. You could, if done with neutrality, and with citations to independent sources, indicate some of the religious activities encouraged by the school to further demonstrate the point. The page to which I redirected Vehicle visual signalling was Headlight flashing, which is a form of inter-vehicle visual signalling, which your article appeared to discuss. However, the headlight flashing article is written based on citations from reliable sources, whereas your article appeared to have been written from a "here's what I know about this topic" viewpoint. It is unlikely that the level of detail that you specified in your article has actually been documented in any reliable source.

The fact that you managed to slip one unsourced article by the other editors of Wikipedia is no reason to allow another one. (See WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS.) You claim that these signals are accepted all over the EU. Has anyone actually documented them in a published document? Do they vary from place to place? Are they taught in any formalized driver education program? I've driven in a lot of places, and sadly, people who flash their lights or make other signals to other drivers often think they are doing the other drivers a service, but because such signals lack any form of standardization, they are more than likely simply confusing other drivers. OK, I agree to that. However, it is not likely that anyone will ever make a standard for that. After all most of the signals are used to inform you of speed-traps, police patrols, etc. I do not intend to return my original article (as to prevent a useless editing war). I'm so new to Wiki and don't want to violate anything. A third-party website is drawing on an incorrect description of our organization based on a different wiki entry. Just trying to get the third-party to draw on correct information for our organization not the Polish shipping company we are often confused with. I don't want to violate anything but I can't figure out how to post a truly basic entry in wiki... the help guidelines are greek to me. Is there anyway you can help me understand why you are deleting our page and what I can do to improve it?

Edits to World Chiropractic Alliance

Dan, I know you have not heard from me for a while. I ask you to take a look at the World Chiropractic Alliance article. Someone from the WCA has edited out all the negative information, which WAS referenced, and completely taken over the article with unreferenced and mostly unsupportable "facts" that advertise their cause. Those words are quoted from the company's website; I have drawn no conclusions based on them. They stand on their own for all to evaluate as to whether the WCA is an organization that works for good or ill; the interpretation is left to the reader. The text you added included your own conclusions regarding the nature of the organization and its relationship to the UN. I'm not sure what you mean by "It says the link is unavailable". What says that? Is that an error generated by Wikipedia? Or is it an error generated when you try to navigate to the soundcloud site? In either case, it's not that important. Soundcloud is basically a music download site -- it would not be a valid reference to verify the facts of your biographical article anyway. This series of edits did not adhere to Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, by including language intended to make the Bechtler Museum sound like an enticing place to visit. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the Bechtler is an enticing place to visit, but it is not the point of Wikipedia to say so. The reason that the conflict of interest guideline exists is that it is often very hard for writers to be completely neutral about the projects they are involved in. For example, the Bechtler may well be the "only museum in the southeast dedicated to 20th century modertn art", but without a citation, this language sounds promotional. Similarly, saying that the Bechtler has pieces "from almost every medium and key movement" can only be perceived as promotion. (Well, is it every key movement? Or almost every? What's a key movement and who defines that?) Since your username clearly identifies you as someone associated with the museum, your best course of action is to raise any potential corrections on the article's talk page and allow other editors to incorporate the suggestions into the article. I get a lot of information from the Wikipedia, but I can also add some new information. But your question is a little bit useless. The database provides the same information like this homepage. I do not understand why you do not see the connection between it, because it is logic. Maybe I did not express myself correctly, I am not creating it by myself. I have got several sources (homepages), this Wiki is just one of it. I compare the data and if I am sure that the provided data is correct, then I add it to my database. I hope it is clear now that I do not use my database as a refence, but the Wiki and others sources as a reference for my database.

Anyway I am not changing the data here on the Wiki, I just added some internal links to information that is already given. There are a lot of informations that do not correspond each other, i.e. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%9Eenol_G%C3%BCne%C5%9F

In the text it says: "...On 8 December 2006, FC Seoul, one of the leading football clubs in the K-League, announced their three-year contract with Güneş starting from 2007. Three years later, Güneş moved back to Turkey, to his hometown Trabzon..."

But in the Information box on the right hand side stands: "2007-2009 Trabzonspor 2009- FC Seoul"

Such things I did so far, but I will not touch anything, that I am not 100% sure about what I am doing.

I give you another example for the inconsistence of the data on Wiki. On the page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K-League in the part 2011 season Participating Clubs (2011) As of 2011 Season, K-League Clubs by Province Suwon and Seongnam are listed as capital provinces, but the page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:520px-Provinces_of_South_Korea_Txt.PNG express something completely different.

Suwon is part of the spatial province Gyeonggi and Seongnam of the spatial province Jeolanam. The Club Gwangju FC has been put in the Jeolla region, but Gwangju is a capital province and has got nothing to do with the spatial province Jeollabuk.
