Speedy deletion of Project iX[edit]

Really? Heaps of pages with much less info (stubs) don't get deleted -_- — Preceding unsigned comment added by Name97 (talkcontribs) 16:33, 26 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your page was not deleted for having too little information, but for failing to indicate why the project merits inclusion at Wikipedia. And I didn't delete it, I merely proposed that it be deleted. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:02, 26 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

my contribution should not be deleted[edit]

Crashplan[edit]

Hey Wikidan61. In 2009 you commented on the Talk page of CrashPlan regarding an AfD / COI discussion. I wanted to let you know about this discussion.

I'll be helping their PR agency create an article on Code42 and probably improving this one as well. My approach is permission-based, so we won't post anything to article-space without asking for a review by an impartial editor.

I was poking around to see if we should keep two separate articles on Code42 and their product Crashplan or keep them separate. I would normally merge, but am partial to maintaining the status quo. Corporate 19:22, 28 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikify tag[edit]

Hi there! {{Wikify}} has recently been deprecated in favor of more specific tags, which are listed at Template:Wikify#See_also. When tagging an article that needs more links, for instance, please use {{underlinked}}. (If there are no links, then use {{dead end}}.) Thanks! Guoguo12 (Talk)  02:05, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE September 2012 drive wrap-up[edit]

Guild of Copy Editors September 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up

Participation: Out of 41 people who signed up this drive, 28 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: We achieved our primary goal of clearing July, August, September and October 2011 from the backlog. This means that, for the first time since the drives began, the backlog is less than a year. At least 677 tagged articles were copy edited, although 365 new ones were added during the month. The total backlog at the end of the month was 2341 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We completed all 54 requests outstanding before September 2012 as well as eight of those made in September.

Copy Edit of the Month: Voting is now over for the August 2012 competition, and prizes will be issued soon. The September 2012 contest is closed for submissions and open for voting. The October 2012 contest is now open for submissions. Everyone is welcome to submit entries and to vote.

– Your drive coordinators: Stfg, Allens, and Torchiest.

Lauren aquilina[edit]

Is it possible to correct the capitalisation for 'aquilina' ? If not, deletion looks fine and I'll ask the editor if they want to put up a new article with refs/sources and correctly titled Yorkshiresoul (talk) 13:08, 7 October 2012 (UTC) -- I sorted it, I'll try to find some decent references for the article. Totally confused but you seem helpful :-)[edit]

Hi WikiDan I really need some help. I am trying to create an article on the company Kelway which you have been kind enough to send me some tips on. I can't get my head round all the different things I need to do so I'm trying you one last time in the hopes you can help me :-)

I have created an article which is saved in my sandbox (is that right?) as well as on my talkpage. I'm not sure I replied to you properly though - I was hoping someone could help me work out if what I have written is ok to be turned in to an article. Have included six links to external articles about or including Kelway. Hopefully this will satisfy notability requirements....

Thanks in advance!

User[edit]

Hi mate, I see you've been dealing with User:Titanic225 and have issued a couple of warnings. Thought I should point this one out. This is also very strange. I suspect he's WP:NOTHERE to be constructive but thought I might raise it with you first before sending it to AN/I. Thoughts? Stalwart111 (talk) 03:45, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure if he is being deliberately disruptive or just overly enthusiastic without bothering to actually read the policies and guidelines he is warning others about. Since he has deliberately avoided entering into a dialogue about the warnings I have given him, I suspect his disruptive behavior is deliberate. In either case, he is doing the project no favors. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:35, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Again, without responding to any of the notes on his talk page, today's edits have included a bitey level 4 warning (which you picked up on) which related to this edit which clearly (in my view) doesn't have anything to do with vandalism. The editor in question removed a number of references for which the cite tag had been used without title (resulting in error messages). Instead of fixing them, the editor removed them - perhaps not in line with WP:FIXTHEPROBLEM but a long way from disruptive, let alone vandalism - and got a harsh warning for it. The only other contribution was to randomly prod Juan Cruz Alvaro Armada for speedy deletion which was almost immediately declined. None of them seem like blocking offences but they are border-line disruptive. I might post a note to his talk page asking him to respond and suggesting the next step will be WP:ANI, as much as I hate to use that as a "threat". Stalwart111 (talk) 23:31, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that a firmer intervention may be in order. The fact that he has declared himself a wannabe admin while so badly abusing the processes makes me think we may be dealing with a troll. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 04:26, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Agree. Have left a more substantive note on his talk page. If he ignores it (and your most recent one) and continues down the same path I'll send it to ANI. Cheers, Stalwart111 (talk) 05:05, 18 October 2012 (UTC).[reply]

Speedy Deletion of "Guitar and Lute Workshop"[edit]

Dan, I've updated the Guitar and Lute Workshop article with the relevant missing information which should satisfy the Wikipedia policy requirements for this article. The Guitar and Lute Workshop represents significant cultural significance for the State of Hawaii, as well as Hawaiian culture. I've included references to appropriate and historical people, places, and events in Hawaiian history in the article. Please contact me should you require any additional information added to the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnson.s.erik (talkcontribs)

I have removed the speedy deletion template, but the article still needs work. Most pressing is the need for reliable sources to back up your claims of the significance of this business. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:28, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The blitz works much like our bimonthly drives, but a bit simpler. Everyone is welcome to take part, and barnstars will be awarded.
  • November 2012 Backlog elimination drive is a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on November 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on November 30 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goals are to copy edit all articles tagged in 2011 and to complete all requests placed before the end of October. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits at least one article, and special awards will be given to the top five in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", "Number of articles of over 5,000 words", "Number of articles tagged in 2011", and "Longest article". Borling Page[edit]

Thanks for clean up on General Borling! I am trying to update him into the current century and get him the type of page he deserves! Feel free to add/clean anything you like! -Haste1066

I am not related good sir. Also, I have read and agree with the conflict of interest policy, thank you for pointing that out. I work for a military Library and we do this for any notable officers we have texts or artifacts of.

Did you personally visit General Borling to take pictures of him and his wife? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:50, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the photo with his wife Myrna was taken a while back. I have much more original content I could upload. I will be adding more references soon. I believe the edit you're talking about is this one, in which the phrase "2012: Jokes of the Century" was added. This addition was clearly not helpful, and was reverted. Such test edits are considered vandalism on Wikipedia. The first instance is treated lightly, but repeated instances, not so much. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:33, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have access to the article copy now that it has been deleted, but as I recall, the article described the firm in terms of their "commitment to customers" and such things. All firms are committed to their customers; saying so is merely self-promotion. Wikipedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view. Procurement Performance insert[edit]

Hello,

Could you please tell me where the problem is coming from with my additions to the Procurement Performance paragraph?

I don't understand how a verifiable, reliable, sourced, information like what I provided can be simply deleted considering that it brings strong value to what was written on Ardent Partners.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.3.62.93 (talk) 13:54, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your addition to the Procurement page consists of a detailed description of your method of Procurement Performance measurement, with notes about the widespread acceptance of this method. The acceptance of the method is not verifiable without proper citations, and even if the method has been widely accepted, your description of the method, without citations to reliable, independent sources, is simply original research. Since Wikipedia is not a publisher of original research, this material has no place at Wikipedia. You will need to publish your method in a reliable peer-reviewed journal or text, at which point an independent editor can add information about the method to this page. Until you have done this, attempts to continue adding this material to Wikipedia appear to be a way to promote this method, especially since you include several links to sievo.com, the company that is selling this method. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:17, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
PS: The "Ardent Partners" material to which you referred appears to be a research report published by this organization regarding the procurement practices of various companies. This is a report, published by a company, reporting on the practices of other companies. It represents one source from which to draw on verifiable facts about the procurement practice. It is not a method, invented and promoted by a particular company, the efficacy of which method has not been verified in any reliable source. The New Page Patroller's Barnstar
I award you this New Page Patroller's Barnstar for having cleaned a number of articles I evaluated recently for suspected copyright violations. 'Tis a far, far easier thing to delete these articles per CSD g12 — at which point we'll often never see coverage of that encyclopedic subject (or contribution from that new contributor) again. — madman 00:37, 27 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Congenital Trigger Thumb edits[edit]

Hi there, I see you have already edited some stuff on the article I just added. I wondered why you changed the place of the images, because I prefer them in between paragraphs instead of directly underneath a heading. Can I change it back?

thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by JoJoEMC (talkcontribs) 14:47, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You may move them back. I have actually changed them to "float right" which allows the images to appear alongside the text which describes them. I think this presents a better flow of information. If you prefer between paragraphs, I won't object. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:53, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Allright thanks! The reason is that a widescreen monitor, which I am using, displays the images all the way to the right. Then it seems very distant to the actual text on the left side of the page.

Big Mac Creator Controversy[edit]

Why did you remove the Big Mac Creator Controversy post?

Jc parttime (talk) 15:10, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Because there is only one minor news source, regarding what amounts to a rumor. Please see WP:UNDUE regarding giving undue weight to fringe ideas. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:23, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I read it. At a minimum, it looks like it should be included under the "See Also" heading.

Jc parttime (talk) 15:34, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The "See Also" heading would refer to other Wikipedia articles that might be of interest. Since the cited source cannot be considered reliable (after all, it never actually verifies that Curry invented the Big Mac, only that he claims to have invented it), the facts in question really have no place in Wikipedia. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:38, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Due and undue weight specifically states, "Generally, the views of tiny minorities should not be included at all, except perhaps in a "see also" to an article about those specific views." I believe this article, and persons mentioned in it, would at least be considered "tiny minorities". I am from Uniontown, and I am personally familiar with the subject matter. The article was published in the local paper (The Herald-Standard) which has a circulation of 30,000 subscribers, none of whom disputed the article when it was published in 2007. There are many people, other than the few mentioned in this article, that concur with the article. I believe it warrants placement under a "standard heading", let alone under "see also". Jc parttime (talk) 16:28, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, I just can't support the addition of this "fact" based on the article you cite. The article itself notes that Curry's role in the Big Mac invention is little more than a rumor, vaguely remembered by several of Curry's friend. Your source simply isn't strong enough to corroborate the facts. You have now had two different editors (including Gwickwire (talk · contribs) who declined your edit request) disagree with the addition of this material. You are free to seek other opinions in the matter. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:35, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

editing Madeline Gins[edit]

Hello, I am trying to update Madeline's wikipedia entry. A lot of the information is out of date and I have a lot of (neutral) histrionic information pertaining to her life. How can I add this without it immediately getting deleted.

Madeline Gins (talk) 20:34, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I presume you mean that you have neutral historic information (rather than histrionic). You have chosen an unfortunate username under which to edit this article, as it is clear that you are either Ms Gins, or a representative of Ms Gins, which presents a severe conflict of interest problem. Your best path forward at this point would be to make an entry on the talk page regarding any factual errors or out of date information in the article, with links to the sources that verify your claims, and allow a disinterested third party to evaluate the issues and make the appropriate changes. Please know that the changes you have made so far would not be considered neutral. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:44, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notability is defined by Wikipedia's notability guidelines. Generally, lists of "notable people" should be limited to those who already have Wikipedia articles. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:38, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

well, here even some of most notable people don't have wiki pages, or even a trace on internet. Things work differently here...you should be aware of it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Psrangi (talkcontribs) 17:41, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The guidelines of Wikipedia are not localized to any particular place. All articles, regardless of the location of their subject, are subject to the same criteria. People who are "notable" locally are not necessarily globally notable. Unless they have been the topic of significant independent media coverage (not necessarily online; could be in print). About signing & citing[edit]

When I wrote about the Arizona striped whiptail, most of what I wrote about was my experience with this lizard (since I've caught this lizard and learned about there behavior and habitat) that I did not look up anywhere. However I did look up some information which was cited. I'm glad you sent a message to me before there was any problems. I am still wondering about what you can sign and not, though some of thoughs ideas I put down were my own. My real question is why can't you sign your page if you created and were are you allowed to sign? Please respond these are important questions. &

P.S. If your up to it can picture on the Arizona striped whiptail it will make the page look better.

--Philip Wright (talk) 18:02, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikipedia:Signatures guideline is pretty clear on the matter. You should sign any post on a discussion page, such as a user talk page, an article talk page, or any other discussion forum. This allows users to easily track who is saying what in discussions. However, you must not sign any edits you make to actual articles, as this implies ownership, which is a false implication. Your contribution to the article is reflected in the article history.
As for adding information from your own experience, that isn't how Wikipedia works. All information on Wikipedia should be verifiable. That is, other users should be able to verify that the information is true. The chief way that happens is by citing reliable sources. A text book on lizards can be presumed to have undergone a fair amount of editorial review, as can an article in a reputable magazine. An independent editor can read that text or magazine article to verify the content of the Wikipedia article. However, I can't very well telephone you to verify the information in the Wikipedia article you have created, nor can I make any assumptions about your knowledge, since you could be anything from the chief herpetologist at the University of Arizona to a cub scout with a computer. Actually, no. Opinions are beliefs, and as such, cannot be correct or incorrect. Opinions can be based on an incorrect interpretation of facts, but that is a different statement. Relating the article Shakti[edit]

Shakti means energy. When pronounced or used as just Shakti, means translation of english word energy to hindi/sanskrit word Shakti. prefix or suffix like Devi or Mata or Maa, added to Shakti, makes complete sense of addressing Hindi Goddess Shakti. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pratik12951 (talkcontribs) 14:24, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

111 First Street[edit]

Hello, WikiDan61. You have new messages at Brankoab's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

I'm new at creating wikipedia pages, sorry for all the errors. I guess now, I should have waited for the newspaper interviews to get published, in regards to the movie. They will happen this coming week and I will post their links. According to wikipedia, documentary films, a documentary film is notable if it has notable individuals acting on it, and it mentions to show by links-footnotes the notability of the person. I tried to show that with my footnotes, but I guess I posted them wrong.

This movie does not deal with the eviction of the artists at 111, neither any political controversy around that eviction. It does not deal with the 111 building, and calling it 111 First street (movie), is not the name, and it was not the intention, when filming. It only documents the artists, giving a tour of their studios or showing their work. Months before they were evicted, the movie had been completed. As it is published now, the Synopsis of the movie, is far from the real movie.

So, forgive my lack of wiki knowledge, I'm improving.

Regards,

Branko.

My mistake in assuming the film dealt with the eviction, since the thesis you referenced does deal with that event. I will correct the synopsis as you have mentioned. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:59, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Assistance with a disambiguated title[edit]

Update: Sorry, I just saw that you provided some really helpful information on my Talk page. Thank you for the clarification. AkaWilson (talk) 18:45, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the note on the IFEX page about not deleting a legitimate disambiguation page. I'm not sure what you mean by creating a properly disambiguated title though - would you be able to provide a bit more guidance? It would be greatly appreciated. AkaWilson (talk) 18:43, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

From your edits at International Freedom of Expression Exchange, I gather that you would like the IFEX page to be written about that organization. Unfortunately, there is more than one entity at Wikipedia that can be called IFEX, and so, you need to create a more specific page title, such as IFEX (organization). However, as I have noted, I do not believe that this is appropriate, as the official name of the organization, as noted on their website, is still International Freedom of Expression Exchange. GOCE November 2012 copy edit drive update[edit]

Guild of Copy Editors November 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter

  • Participation: Out of 31 people signed up for this drive so far, 22 have copy-edited at least one article. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, every bit helps; if you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!
  • Progress report: We're on track to meet our targets for the drive. We have reduced our target group of articles—November and December 2011—by over 50%, and 34 of the the 56 requests made in September and October this year have already been fulfilled. However, the rate of tagging for copy edit has increased, and this month we are just keeping the size of the backlog stable. So, all you copy editors, please do come along and help us!
  • The September 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest was won by Baffle gab1978 for his copy edit of Expulsion of the Acadians. Runner up was Gareth Griffith-Jones for his edit of I Could Fall in Love. Congratulations to both.
  • The October 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest is in the discussion and voting stage until midnight November 30 (UTC). You don't have to make a submission to vote!
  • November 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest is in the submissions stage until midnight November 30 (UTC), when discussion and voting begin.
  • Seasonal oversight: We had a slight fall from grace in the title of our last newletter, which mentioned the season in the northern hemisphere and thus got it wrong for the southern. Fortunately an observant GOCE member was ready to spring into action to advise us. Thanks! In future we'll stay meteorologically neutral.

Very Confused!! (Process Conflict)[edit]

I AM TRYING TO CREATE A PAGE FOR "PROCESS CONFLICT" AS IT PERTAINS TO MANAGEMENT. YOU HAVE REDIRECTED IT TO "CONFLICT (PROCESS), EVEN THOUGH THE LATTER ARTICLE FOCUSES ON "CONFLICT" ITSELF AND MY ARTICLE IS MORE FOCUSED ON CONFLICT AS IT INTERFERES WITH PROCESS. PLEASE HELP ME. THANK YOU — Preceding unsigned comment added by Theurbanegraduate (talkcontribs)

First of all, please stop shouting. Second, your article was problematic for several reasons, that I have already elucidated on your own talk page:
  1. The article you submitted consisted largely of snippets of text that you copied verbatim from various sources (including quite a bit from Chapter 9 of Northouse's Introduction to Leadership).
  2. The article largely reproduces material already covered elsewhere, at conflict (process) and conflict resolution.
Perhaps when I left you my message, I should have pointed out the copyright violation issue inherent in #1 above. The article could not be allowed to remain as is, and I could not have rewritten it in any meaningful fashion without duplicating material that already exists within Wikipedia. You say that this article is specifically about "process conflict", but the rest of your description goes on to talk about conflict in very general terms. It seems that process conflict is just plain old generic conflict, where the topic of the conflict is process. This does not seem to need its own article. GOCE November drive wrap-up[edit]

Guild of Copy Editors November 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up

Participation: Thanks to all who participated! Out of 38 people who signed up this drive, 33 copy-edited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. All the barnstars have now been distributed.

Progress report: We achieved our primary goal of clearing November and December 2011 from the backlog. For the first time since the drives began, the backlog consists only of articles tagged in the current year. The total backlog at the end of the month was 2690 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We completed all 56 requests outstanding before November 2012 as well as eight of those made in November.

Copy Edit of the Month: Voting is now over for the October 2012 competition, and prizes have been issued. The November 2012 contest is closed for submissions and open for voting. The December 2012 contest is now open for submissions. Everyone is welcome to submit entries and to vote.

Coodinator election: The six-month term for our fourth tranche of Guild coordinators will expire at the end of December. Nominations are open for the fifth tranche of coordinators, who will serve from 1 January to 30 June 2013. For complete information, please have a look at the election page.

Hi, I was wondering if you could please look at Laura Bell (author) to see if it should be deleted. I read through WP:PEOPLE, which includes WP:AUTHOR, and don't believe she's notable. But I'd rather have an "expert" in notability and the article deletion process make the determination. No, I didn't. I simply reverted the article to a form that it was in prior to the editing by Ucb1941 (talk · contribs). If there was already promotional material there, that was not my doing. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:59, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. Sorry for my misunderstanding. Cheers! Kevin12xd... | speak up | take a peek | email me 22:01, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
PS -- what specifically do you find promotional about the smaller, pre-COI version of the article? Is it the linkedin link? Or the fact that the article mentions the school's consistently high ranking? The former may be an inappropriate external link, and the latter may be uncited, but neither element is blatantly promotional, in my opinion. Reviewing your user talk page, I note that your submitted article on Mercuri International Group was deleted under speedy deletion criterion A7 -- no explanation of the subject's significance. Wikipedia is not a directory or a collection of everything; rather it is an encyclopedia that seeks to provide information on notable subjects. Notability is defined in various ways for various topics, and there is an entire guideline on what makes corporations notable. In general, notability boils down to the evidence that people not related to the subject have taken notice of the subject, and written about it in a substantial manner in an independent source. This is important for two reasons: it demonstrates that the subject is something that the world might care about, and it provides reliable sources to verify the information in the article. Without such substantial independent sources, it is impossible to create a verifiable article about a topic.
In your particular case, your article provided no independent sources, and did not provide any information to indicate that Mercuri International is not just another run of the mill sales consultancy. Looking at your Articles for Creation submission (which, if I recall correctly, was substantially the same as the deleted article), you have cited only two sources: a book written by the company's founder, and another book published by the company commemorating its 30th anniversary. Neither of these sources can be considered reliable because of their close connection with the subject. If you can find sources independent of the company (trade journal or general magazine articles about the company, for example), then you might have something. Although I cannot access the deleted page, I can access the history of your user page, and from what I can read there, you have created a page about a YouTube user that does not indicate how this person is notable. Not everyone gets to have a Wikipedia page. If you can show that this person has ban the subject of significant coverage in independent sources, the article might have a better chance of being retained.
