About the transreality games article

The article on transreality gaming (formerly transreality(computing)) is now 'finalized' and in my sandbox (or should it reside at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Sandbox or Draft:Sandbox), but it seems I have to wait for weeks to have it assessed. I think you've properly limited the scope of the article to gaming, which is the focus of all of your references. Now the only problem I see is one of accessibility. You've written what appears to be a scholarly journal article, using a fair amount of jargon, but the average reader (e.g. me) may not understand your point. The difference between "trans-reality" gaming and any other kind of virtual-reality gaming is not really spelled out in clear terms that a layman can understand. But that might just be my own problem, and it certainly wouldn't be the first Wikipedia article with such issues. Overall, I think you've addressed my concerns nicely. I nominated the article for deletion because it appeared to be about a recording (a song or album) with no evidence of notability, by a recording artist (singer or band) who also does not appear notable. I understand the need for neutrality, and the article was not a pitch to attend LCCC. It was a conglomerate of information taken from LCCC's administrative documents and statistics from the website. There was no spin. According to Wikipedia's guidelines, how would I go about proving that to you so that the article remains published?

While you might not have seen the article as a pitch to attend LCCC, the text you added contained much that would be considered promotional. Phrases like:

To continue to meet the demands of student life and better serve the surrounding community, LCCC continues to expand the availability of its online classes, allowing education to take place wherever a personal computer is accessible.

and:

The 38,000 sq. ft. building provides students in the region with a convenient, close-to-home option for affordable, high-quality education

can really not be called neutral.

Also, the article presented detailed biographical sketches of the college's past presidents, with no reliable sources. This is a violation of Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy.

In general, it is not a good idea to copy a school's website text or other publications verbatim into Wikipedia, even if you have permission. Schools and corporations create websites primarily to promote themselves, which is a fine practice. I'd like to see significant coverage in reliable, independent sources. I don't know that I consider the review at "TopConsumerReviews.com" to be reliable, since I can't assess their editorial policies. Also, that is but one review. Generally, companies are deemed notable based on multiple instances of significant coverage. I'm still not seeing that. That is why I'd like others to look at the article. The problem with your request is that your basic motivation is to promote your company, which is not what Wikipedia is here for. As an employee of the company, you have a basic conflict of interest and should not be involved with the creation of the article. Your best course of action is to request an article at Wikipedia:Requested articles. Then someone who is uninvolved with the company can decide if it merits an article. sorry for the trouble. I found the letter in a book of archives. I did try to put the source in, but I guess I just did not know how to use this. It was my first time putting things in. I don't know if you will even get this message. I understand now that just a summary of the letter should be posted. I have never used this program before. I should have also put that he was the last person to be broken on a wheel in the United States. I am a descendent of his and wanted this information available for other descendents. This is a primary source and is not copyrighted, perhaps the translated version would be? The book I got if from, I tried to cite it so that it would be legal. Also you state the letter goes into another page. I have never been to that.

From now on I will not mess with this, even though the information I find may be useful to someone. I don't want to violate any laws. Perhaps one day after understanding this program more.

The question isn't whether the text of the letter (or even its translation) is copyrighted or not (although if you copied the translation verbatim from a modern work, it may well be an issue), the question is whether the text of the letter, in its entirety, with no commentary or context, has any encyclopedic value, which I believe it does not. Such primary sources are the purview of historians; they review the sources and place them into context by examining other available sources, and they boil down the meaning of such sources in the texts they write (which then become secondary sources). Those secondary sources are then edited and reviewed by other historians, so that we at Wikipedia may have some reasonable confidence that the meaning that has been extracted from such primary sources has been correctly rendered and reported to us, the readers.

If you find that this text may be of interest to other descendants of Baudreau, perhaps you can set up a page on Wikia.com to publish it. WikiDan61^ChatMe!_ReadMe!! 15:54, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

As a historian, I know this. I should have read the rules of Wikipedia before I posted it. Since, we as historians, consider Wikipedia only as a source to lead you to good sources and cannot be used in anything scholarly, I thought the public (generally genealogist)would like to read it, as many would never be able to get a copy of it. I thought the letter might be of interest to others. As his descendent, I am and others that have been shown the copy to are also interested. Because, as I explained on your talk page, creating separate articles for each candidate's 2014 mayoral campaign is an unnecessary content fork and could easily be seen as promotional. The material should be easily covered at each candidate's page, with a single article about the overall campaign to cover debates that occurred and other notable events of the campaign. Lets talk about WP:SPAM.

1. "How not to be a spammer" states "Review your intentions. Wikipedia is not a space for personal promotion or the promotion of products, services, web sites, fandoms, ideologies, or other memes. If you are here to tell readers how great something is, or to get exposure for an idea or product that nobody has heard of yet, you are in the wrong place. Likewise, if you are here to make sure that the famous Wikipedia cites you as the authority on something (and possibly to pull up your sagging PageRank) you will probably be disappointed, because Wikipedia uses nofollow on all external links, thereby causing search engines to effectively ignore them."
   1. I am definitely not here for "personal promotion or the promotion of products, services, web sites, fandoms, ideologies, or other memes." The only thing that the articles can fall in is "ideologies." But I created the same type of article for four candidates. So, I'm not promoting one set of "ideologies."
2. It also says to "contribute cited text, not bare links. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a link farm. If you have a source to contribute, first contribute some facts that you learned from that source, then cite the source. Do not simply direct readers to another site for the useful facts; add useful facts to the article, then cite the site where you found them. You are here to improve Wikipedia—not just to funnel readers off Wikipedia and onto some other site, right? (If not, see No. 1 above.)"
   1. I have definitely contributed "some facts" that I learned from multiple sources. Then I added the sources.
3. A third point it states is "the References section is for references. A reference directs the reader to a work that the writer(s) referred to while writing the article. The References section of a Wikipedia article is not just a list of related works; it is specifically the list of works used as sources. Therefore, it can never be correct to add a link or reference to References sections if nobody editing the text of the article has actually referred to it."
   1. I definitely only put in independent third–party references. Every link is attached to a sourced statement in the article.
4. A fourth point stated is "Do not make a new article for your own product or web site. Most often, when a person creates a new article describing his or her own work, it is because the work is not yet well-known enough to have attracted anyone else's attention, much less independent and reliable sources against which the content can be verified. Articles of this sort are usually deleted. Wikipedia does indeed have articles about popular products and web sites, but it is not acceptable to use Wikipedia to popularize them."
   1. I have nothing to promote. I am neither any of those candidate or working with any of the relevant campaigns.

Editing Process

Pleasure to make your acquaintance. I have been in the fashion business for quite a longtime (since the mid 1980s), the nature of my occupation is individuals interchange throughout the business on quite a regular basis, so as you can imagine I’ve worked and contributed to many publications in the fashion industry. For that reason I am cautious with my links and edits as they all come from sources that I believe as an expert, to be without bias and accurate.

I feel that the links I have added to the articles are exceptionally relevant. My strategy is to connect links and information to trustworthy media sources that base information on objective information and results. There is unquestionably no divergence of interest as I am a contributing editor to more than 25 fashion publications worldwide. On the contrary, my edits were changed back to information that is out of date and out of touch. As I am very new to Wikipedia; I do not understand the principles involved, nor have a total grasp on the editing process. However, when I see links that are missing vital information ; I am not adding them because I am a contributing editor to one publication or another; but rather because the knowledge is significant and factually without prejudice.

Seeing ambiguous links to erroneous material, and "model" rankings that are absolutely bias is quite disconcerting, as the information linked is not based on any quantifiable evidence, but rather unmitigated partiality. ( If anything all the links to Model.com, and even mention of the ranking system on Models.com should be removed. Models.com Is not a media outlet but rather a webpage business based on making money from model agencies and wannabe models that want to feature there companies and or portfolios in the models.com directory or portfolios section.) The reason I linked FashionIndustree.com is simply, The Ranking System is based on results and FashionIndustree.com does not do business with Models, Agents, or Directory Profiles, but rather is a completely free service. The most important rule in journalism is not to be underwritten by the party that you are wishing to speak objectively about. Models.com do not base their results on palpable data but rather self-aiding interest.

The reason that I am writing you is simple, my few contributions have been changed back as they looked at as self promotion or spamming, but they are far from that. After looking at your talk page, I see that you have a great deal of experience on Wikipedia and frankly I need help.

I am afraid that my links are being snubbed and arbitrated because I have been authentic about my proficiency in the industry and affiliations, rather than the added value and information to the Wikipedia article. I am sure that Wikipedia does not do business this way, and I would love to go about replacing a large percentage of the fashion content on the site with unbias measurable results and sources. No, your links are being snubbed and arbitrated because they all appear to be to the same website: http://www.fashionindustree.com and its various client pages. What this tells me is that there are people who are clients of the fashionindustree site, who are hoping to use that site to help promote their fashion design career. Such links have no place in Wikipedia articles, per Wikipedia's external links policy. I note that there is a copy of this article in the history of your user page (here), and I recall tagging the article you created from this (at Dawn Grant) for speedy deletion. The reasons were several:

1. The article does not provide any indication that Grant is in anyway notable. There are lots of hypnotherapists in the world; unless Grant has done something to distinguish herself in that field (and has been recognized for this distinction by significant coverage in reliable sources), she doesn't really merit inclusion.
2. The article reads very much like an advertisement for Grant's services, which is prohibited.

If you have rewritten the material, and would like me to review it again prior to posting it in article space, place the draft at User:Collettegray/Dawn Grant, and let me know when it's ready. As a userspace draft, the article won't be subject to speedy deletion unless it violates copyrights or is a blatant attack page (and I doubt either condition will apply). I note on your user page, you claim to have "direct and exclusive access to the person concerned". That's great and would make for a lovely newspaper article, but it won't really do for Wikipedia. Wikipedia's verifiability criteria require that sources used to verify an article's content must be publicly available for other editors to check. Your private, personal interviews with Ms Harris will not be usable as source material for your Wikipedia article. Now, if you can get a newspaper to publish your story, then we could use that published (and presumably fact-checked) story as the basis of additional material at the Wikipedia article. Flagship (sustainability certification)

Hello Dan61!

As I am new to Wikipedia as an author I'm not sure if this is the right way to have this conversation so please excuse me and tell me how we should do this in the proper way if it is so.

The certification stamp is nothing that we (The Flagship Movement) are going to try and get any kind of copyright for, at least that has never been discussed so far as I would assume it costs quite a lot to do that. Those projects that we grant this certification to will be displayed on our website that we are currently building. Besides, anyone could just basically copy-paste this logo onto their own website if they wanted to and we would probably never know, and if we did we would not go to any length to try and get them to remove it either. But as you have deemed our topic Non-notable, and considering that my article will be deleted there is no reason to have that picture uploaded unto Wikipedia. Yes, I fully understand that timoxelin barbutenol is a single compound (which may or may not be a barbiturate) and that barbiturates are entire class of compounds, so they are not the same thing. However, you article, while titled timoxelin barbutenol, does not say a single thing about that compound, but rather talks about barbiturates in general.  Not done. The article was a hoax and I have no intention of fostering such a hoax. Even if I did, that's not the way things work at Wikipedia. No one can "lock" an article so that only select editors can access it. An article can be protected so that only certain classes of users may edit it, but this is generally only done to protect sensitive parts of the project or to prevent vandalism. It is never intended to short circuit the collaborative nature of the project. And even then, I couldn't help you; only administrators can protect pages. All that being said, I suggest you take the advice you have already been given and please stop wasting the time of other Wikipedia editors with this hoax. The problem is that he is not a notable music producer. The article does not make sufficient claim of his notability (working with a notable artist could mean anything from co-writing songs with them to carrying their equipment). Artists are not notable because they work with notable artists (see Notability is not inherited), they are notable because they have been the subject of significant coverage in independent media, and this does not appear to be the case for Praize. You don't need to prove Sunray is a living person; you need to demonstrate that he is a notable person, by providing multiple instances of significant coverage in reliable independent sources. The sources you've provided (his profile on his label's website, a link that demonstrates that a DJ remixed his song (or maybe he remixed another DJ's song -- I'm not sure) and a couple of discogs.com links) are not sufficient to demonstrate notability, and are not sufficient to fully verify any significant facts about Sunray other than his mere existence. Can you help me understand why the changes I made to the OMNOVA Solutions page were not accepted. The old version which you reverted back to includes to much wrong information. OMNOVA divested from many of the businesses that are listed on the page.

Could you at least tell me what article you're talking about? Going by what you've written, I suspect that I reverted an action because it had been deemed controversial, and required a discussion. I know nothing of the politics or religious differences between Islamic groups and their iconography, but I do know about Wikipedia guidelines and policies. When one user tries to change an article, and another user doesn't agree with that change, rather than simply editing back and forth to express their own views, those two editors (and other, uninvolved third parties) should discuss the matter. As I recall about the image you mentioned (and again, a page link would really help refresh my memory, their was a dispute about which image to use in an article. I reverted to the image in use before the dispute arose. If the disputing parties would like to discuss the matter and arrive at a consensus, I'd be fine with that. Upon further investigation, I see that you are talking about a series of edits to the article Ali made by S.M.A.A.R (talk · contribs) (a user now blocked for abuse of Wikipedia policies, by the way) back in February 2014. My recollection about the incident was correct: SMAAR was making edits to the article (specifically changing the image in use) without explaining why. All that was required was engagement in a discussion. I reiterate, I have no opinion one way or the other. I do not read Arabic, and I do not have any opinions about the religion or politics involved. I only desire that Wikipedia operate from a position of consensus rather than contention. After all that work to find the specifics of her career, you took it all out in a few seconds. My reason for including it was to point to the specific event data on Wikipedia, so visitors can immediately see how she was placed, her opponents and partners.

I put the general list of events there, but that only gets you to info about the organization, not the details of her career.

The focus in on her career, not the women's tennis events. I like how you can go down the list by year and see in a glance what she did. I like how I can see the context, sometimes that is enough so I don't have to click on the link.

Please leave the table there. I am going to put it back, in a collapsed state. I will read the details of the note on WP whatever. I do not think that it applies in this case. It is hard enough to find any career info on women's tennis. There are partial databases all over. You need to read the Wikipedia Manual of Style section that I pointed you to: WP:SELF. Wikipedia articles are not supposed to reference Wikipedia itself in this manner. I read the article. I already removed the reference to "other Wikipedia articles" and such. That seemed to be the focus of much of the first section. In the section Click here, it says to not use click, since it does not suit where the page is to be printed. I am going to open the table back up to comply with that rule. I have seen many many articles with See Also sections, and I have seen articles with hundreds of links to Wikipedia articles, so gathering all the relevant see also's into a table does not seem to be a stretch. If I am not going to collapse it, then it could also be a bulleted list. A little long, but this is an exceptional person with a long career. Keeping it to just the career timeline items make sense. I think you're on the right track. The specific issue I had was with the section header that read "Wikipedia articles that mention Schneider", and the unfathomable table content. About the Prince of San Marino article

According to your wishes I have addressed that there's no monarch in the modern day. The article addresses that there is a head with the title of prince but he's not a monarch. Such as several head members of none ruling royal houses. They aren't monarchs but heads. And prince rainier is the head since he's the great great grandson of the first monarch. And the article addresses that the prince has no power in political stuff.

Whether any source incorrectly refers to San Marino as "The Principality of San Marino" (its proper title is the Republic of San Marino), there is no indication that there is any person who presently claims the title of "Prince or Princess of San Marino". I believe since it has ever been a principality with a prince that means there will be a prince (head) of the principality although has no political powers. I am surprised about the deletion of my legitimate user page: As a new user, I respectfully request leeway while I become familiar with and fully immersed in "Wiki language". I assumed my friendly fellow Wiki users wanted to know about me. I took the time to attend a meet-up in Los Angeles this past Saturday to meet like-minded folks and learn from them and no one mentioned the improper user page details.

With respect to the speedy deletion of my page, I have copied below Wikipedia's guidelines on deletion of a user page that I believe apply to the deletion of my legitimate user page:

On others' user pages: The best option if there is a concern with a user's page is to draw their attention to the matter via their talk page and let them edit it themselves, if they are agreeable.

My user page is NOT unsuitable. Your request for speedy deletion was made before allowing me to log on and comment or edit my user page. I agree with the guideline text "special care should be taken as the user may be expecting leeway and take it personally, and there are a few exceptions." Another new user and first time contributor with with less "thick skin" than I may simply end the Wiki relationship. That would be sad for Wikipedia.

Deleting others' user pages[edit] In general other users' user pages are managed by that user. Except for blatant or serious matters, it is preferable to try contacting the user before deletion (see above). However, unambiguous copyright violations, attack pages, promotional text, and privacy or BLP violations can be speedy deleted using a suitable template, such as {{db-attack}}, {{db-copyvio}} or {{db-G11}}, other pages likely to require deletion (or where remedial action is not taken) may be submitted to deletion discussion.

Take special care to speak appropriately and explain the concern; many users will take it as a personal affront or attack if an unknown user announces they are going to delete a userspace image or page and an uncivil or heavy duty approach can discourage new users who are unaware of expectations and might enjoy contributing. Remember that a limited amount of personal information (perhaps a short biography) and a freely licensed tasteful personal photograph or two are usually allowed if the page reasonably complies with other requirements.

Simple use as a personal web page is not in itself a speedy deletion criterion, although clear advertising and promotional use is. You could have followed this guideline: "Editors may add (optional "|visible=yes") to a userspace page that is a source of concern, which will remove it from search engines and can also provide a lightweight alternative to deletion, or prevent external indexing during discussion. It will not affect the page for legitimate userspace purposes or on the internal search engine, and should not be used to make a point, nor removed without discussion or consensus. See Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that your user page may not be appropriate to be indexed by external search engines as presently written. Typically, this could be because it appears promotional, or contains material in development or archived that doesn't yet meet policies and guidelines. I have tagged this page as __NOINDEX__, which allows editing but minimizes the page's inclusion in search engine results.

If you believe that your userpage does not violate our guidelines, please leave a note here and we can discuss it. As an alternative, you may add {{db-userreq}} to the top of the page in question and an administrator will delete it, you can change the page so that it more clearly meets Wikipedia guidelines, or you can edit it as normal and ignore the tag completely (it will not affect editing).

Whether or not any other article on Wikipedia merits inclusion is irrelevant. The fact is that this article, in my opinion, does not merit inclusion. It is a local landmark, of interest to people in a very limited part of the world. Local notability does not equate to global notability, and Wikipedia caters to a global audience. I've removed the speedy tag and cleaned up the article. There is coverage in reliable sources, albeit not a lot, and I think I can make a case at least for a redirect to Dunmore, Pennsylvania. @CZANK88: - calm down and assume good faith that WikiDan is trying to do what's best long-term for the encyclopedia. There may be merit in mentioning the candy store in an article on the town itself, but it may simply not be appropriate to have a separate article about it. Page references and "live" status
