Tailenders (2009) moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Tailenders (2009), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. I believe the article has been improved now with citations for external independent. WikiEdit7205 (talk) 21:06, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, WikiEdit7205

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Dr vulpes, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've proposed an article that you started, AquaticBanana/Draft:Blind Photography, for deletion because it meets one or more of our deletion criteria, and I don't think that it is suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. The particular issue can be found in the notice that is now visible at the top of the article.

If you wish to contest the deletion:

  1. Edit the page
  2. Remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. Click the Publish changes button.

If you object to the article's deletion, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the issues raised in the deletion notice. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Dr vulpes}}. And remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. Thanks!

@Ian (Wiki Ed): I'm sorry but I don't think is move was appropriate whatsoever. The article reads like an ad and is not formatted at all how a Wikipedia article should be. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 21:38, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There is no notice at the top of the article so I cannot see the suggestions for improvement. I don't understand why there isn't a more robust dialogue among the editors here regarding improvements that could be made to the article rather than erring on the side of deleting immediately. This doesn't fell like a useful policy and I don't understand the urgency of removing rather than revising the article. WikiEdit7205 (talk) 13:36, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Your responses below suggest to me that you might need to reread Wikipedia's guidelines. If an article isn't ready for mainspace it should not be moved out. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 13:45, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I still don't see any Suggestions or criticisms of the page. WikiEdit7205 (talk) 14:00, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Probably because the page shouldn't have been moved to mainspace in the first place. Would you like to know all the things wrong with it? ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:03, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Above it says there are items listed in the deletion notice and at the top of the page. So yes, it would be nice to know the issues you have with the page as it currently exists. There isn't a page on this topic and I believe it merits one. So I think it is worth putting forward the improvements that could be made rather than deleting it outright. WikiEdit7205 (talk) 14:18, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well for one, when you moved the article out of userspace, it didn't follow the layout of articles outlined in MOS:LAYOUT which Spicy fixed for you. Second, reading through the article, it reads like an advertisement rather than Wikipedia article. Rather than focusing on blind photography, it talks about how good blind photographers are. For example, A grand number of Blind Photographers attempt to capture images that reflect their mental image of their subject. just sounds like WP:FLUFF. Third, your sources focus more on blind photographers rather than blind photography. It's like if the article on Photography talked mostly about photographers. In fact, the sources mostly focus on specific blind photographers which makes it seem more promotional. There are many, many more things wrong with the article. I suggest both you and the rest of your students take a look at this page which details what to do when making your first article. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:38, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate the points about formatting and will recommend students look at this closely in the future. But your overall charactertization of the article is not accurate. The bulk of it covers the trends, history, and techniques in a field of photography that currently has no representation on Wikipedia and is only recently recieving publicity in the wider culture. Many of the sources are drawn from major publications e.g. The Guardian and Aperatur e magazine - and attempt to introduce readers to this kind of photography, as does the majority of the article. The line you pull out as "fluff" could be changed, but the problem appears to be the use of the term "grand" instead of a "large" or "many."
And in any case, these are not the reasons the OP gave for recommending deletion, which was my original request, particularly since they appeared to have constructive criticism that might be helpful for improvement. You appear to be finidng post-facto reasons for deletion, most of which actually appear to be recommendations for revision rather than cause for removing the article as a whole. WikiEdit7205 (talk) 15:48, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Many of the sources are drawn from major publications Sure, the sources may be reliable, but they don't cover the topic of the article which is blind photography, and instead cover blind photographers. I'm not recommending deletion, however I recommend that you move the article back to userspace since it's clearly not ready for mainspace. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 15:51, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hey there, I am catching up on the discussion, but I agree that the article has a number of issues that make it inappropriate for mainspace, and that can be better worked on in the sandbox as @Blaze Wolf mentioned. With some rewriting and cleanup, this topic does have the potential for a standalone article, but it isn't ready for mainspace yet. @WikiEdit7205 We'll be in touch with detailed feedback. Thanks all for holding this discussion. Brianda (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:44, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks all - I would include the author @AquaticBanana on these messages as they are better positioned to make the changes that are recommended. I was just assisting them in moving it to the main space because they were having difficulties. But I do hope they can help make some of the changes recommended as it is a topic they have a committment to having represented in the site. WikiEdit7205 (talk) 19:47, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sure it's a good topic. However the article is completely unsuitable for an encyclopedia as of right now. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 20:08, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for creating the article Blind Photography. I have been interested in this topic for many years, and was glad to see that someone thought to create an article. It clearly meets Wikipedia notability criteria per WP:GNG based on significant coverage several good sources, including Aperture Magazine, The Guardian, BBC, and other reliable sources. It does need copy editing and clean up though, and I've tagged the article for that, and also made several improvements, as have a couple other editors. Thank you for your work and for the efforts of your students. The article is an important contribution to the encyclopedia, and I hope that you and them continue to improve it to our standards. Happy editing! Netherzone (talk) 22:40, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Tailenders (2009)[edit]

Hello, WikiEdit7205,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username MPGuy2824, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged Tailenders (2009) for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. You may find our guide for writing quality articles to be extremely informative. Also, you may want to consider working on future articles in draft space first, where they cannot be deleted for lacking content.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|MPGuy2824}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

I honestly don't understand the impulse to delete this. It has the basic content, useful information, and citations from openly available sources. Perhaps there could be improvements but I find an unacceptable urge to delete among the editors that doesn't appear to be related to the ethos of this project. 207.237.216.13 (talk) 11:54, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop moving drafts back to mainspace[edit]

Hi. Hope all is well. Please do not keep moving an unfinished draft back to mainspace when other editors have specifically moved the article to draft space (which is good for doing a student project). Let me know if you need any guidance. Lourdes 04:03, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The draft I moved was supposed to be the finished one. It appears to be so I don't understand the concern here. 207.237.216.13 (talk) 11:55, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
