Image:DESA2007.jpg[edit]

FYI, I have updated the licensing in Image:DESA2007.jpg to state that this is a non-free image being used under a claim of fair use. Even though you personally created the scan, that scan is considered a derivative work of the award itself, which is, subject to copyright restrictions. Other than that "fair use" images can only be used in articles (as opposed to on user pages, templates, etc), this designation really doesn't make a huge difference - it just needs to be there for legal stuff. As you requested on my talk page, I have removed that edit from the page history. Administrators will still be able to see it, but nobody else will. I have deleted that PDF so it won't show up in your contributions or on the page itself. Unfortunately, that entry will still be in the upload log (see [1] for your upload log). I have no way of removing it there ... I don't know if that's possible to do or not. You can try making a request at Wikipedia:Requests for oversight (see the instructions there for making a request). License tagging for Image:MentoringAward2005.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:MentoringAward2005.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

Reply to question on my talk page[edit]

Ok ... there are several questions/points here ... I'll try to address everything. ;)

When an article is nominated for deletion using a {{prod}} (as this one was), anyone (including the creator of the article), may remove the template to stop the deletion process. A {{prod}} is used for an uncontested deletion - so anyone is allowed to object and the means of objecting is simply to remove the template. In that case, if someone still wants to pursue deletion of the article, the issue would be taken to WP:AFD. So if you would like to stop the article from being deleted after the {{prod}} expires, simply remove the template.
There is no exact standard on "g-hits", or "google hits". Google is best used as a tool to confirm whether the subject of the article is real or fictional. There are plenty of people who are subjects of Wikipedia articles who will get very few Google hits. On the other hand, a company that is trying to launch an advertising campaign may get 50,000 Google hits, but be a very minor company which does not meet Wikipedia's notability standards. There's no magic number of Google hits that makes a topic notable ...
We are strongly advised against writing about ourselves - see WP:AUTO and WP:COI. The thought is that we want Wikipedia to be a serious and neutral encyclopedia and most people will not write neutral articles about themselves.
Wikipedia's guidlines for notability of individual persons are given in WP:BIO, as well as WP:N. The biggest question is whether there are multiple non-trivial published works that provide information about a topic. Wikipedia's fundamental policies include that articles must consist of verifiable sources and must have a neutral point of view. So any topic that you could not write about while citing sourced independent of your own personal knowledge probably should not be on Wikipedia.
To answer your obvious question, there isn't anything more important for me to do than help new users - I'm always happy to help in any way I can. In general, I think taking a look at some of the Manual of Style pages and Notability guidelines is the biggest thing you can do to grow as an editor. There's a lot of background that you can learn from them.
With respect to this I think, in general, autobiographical articles are a bad thing. I think, probably the best thing to do with it is to "userfy" it. You have a user page that, within reason, you can use for whatever you want. My user page is User:BigDT ... your's is User:Wikipedalist. I would suggest just moving this article to your user page. It would not be considered a part of the encyclopedia, but you would be free to leave it there, unimpeded. --BigDT 20:24, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Printing problems[edit]

I took a look at the article. As far as printing goes, try going to "Page setup" and changing it from portrait to landscape mode. It looks like portrait is just too narrow for whatever HTML Wikipedia is generating to fit everything on the page. As far as the image not showing up in the article, are you still having a problem with it? I looked at the article and the images look fine. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box.
