Shania Twain images[edit]

Hi, thank you for uploading the images of Shania Twain. But some or all of them may not qualify as fair use under Wikipedia guidelines because Shania is a living celebrity, and finding a free alternative for living celebrities is not considered unreasonably difficult.

The images I've tagged are:

If you disagree, you can leave a dispute tag at the image page, and explain why creating a free image may be too difficult, more so than, say, Justin Timberlake.

Also, since you're using the images to discuss Shania, it's probable that only one image of Shania would qualify as fair use. One image would be sufficient to show what she looks like, and other images would be considered decorative and not informative, and therefore not fair use. Thank you. Sorry, I should have responded to you sooner. First, I made a mistake of tagging the images - I didn't realize they were all used on the articles for individual articles.
As far as fair use, the screencaps on Janet Jackson and Madonna articles are also not fair use, IMHO, and should be removed. I believe the fair use is valid for use on music video pages, just not for the artist, since they aren't needed for identification and replacements can be made. "Discussion"[edit]

Except there is no actual discussion of the content of the videos, which is what the screenshots show. If I discuss a controversial event on a TV show, then I might need a screenshot, or an historically significant scene from a film. If I don't discuss anything there is no need for unfree images, which try to keep to an minimum. Hope this makes things clearer, ed g2stalk 11:04, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vancouver Courier article on WikiProject Vancouver[edit]

Greetings,

My name is Chris LaVigne. I'm a freelance journalist working on a story for the Vancouver Courier on Wikipedia and the WikiProject Vancouver in particular. I want to talk to people from the Lower Mainland who contribute to Wikipedia, and was hoping you'd like to meet some time next week for a chat. Email me back if you're interested-- lavigne.chris(at)gmail.com. I appreciate any help you can give me.

Cheers

note re: fair use and copyright for record reviews[edit]

I've noticed that you are including long quotes of billboard magazine reviews in your Shania Twain songs, which look to be the entire review as published in the magazine. This is almost certainly not fair use, and definitely not compatible with wikipedia's aim, which is to create an encyclopedia of free content. I'm working through your articles on the singles and eliminating the block quotes in favor of a summary with a representative shorter quote. Calliopejen1 07:36, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could you go through and finish these yourself? I'm not a big Shania fan (unfortunately) and am getting exhausted of rewording them. Since I don't have the energy to reword more, I'll give you a day or two and then check back--if they haven't been taken care of, I'll just remove the offending sections.
