Thai cinema template

HI WiseKwai. Just to let you know the Thai cinema template has been created -I'll have to wait though for Her Pegship to return before I can get the flag in the film icon.

♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 10:08, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Thai cinema award to Wise Kwai -well deserved

I'm just wondering why you never respond to me? What have I done wrong for you to ignore me? Even though I have often contacted you in a friendly way you don't seem to care less about anything I have to say to you ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 19:11, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Galleries in film articles

Thanks for the feedback. If you'll notice, I'm not uploading or adding any pictures to the articles, and I'm not making galleries of all of those articles that do have pictures. What I'm doing as I add other information is - if the pictures (usually more than three, but sometimes two on smaller stubs) are scattered randomly around the article, I just put them in one spot - the gallery - that gives them at least a uniform size and some basic data. Some of those articles looked just bizarre with three or four pictures randomly placed! So, I guess, it's an aesthetic call, not a content call. Since someone thought that they were worthwhile to add, I don't see any reason to take them out. As they've already been on the articles without any complaints or people removing them, I didn't take it on myself to be "bold" and dump them without any reason.

I definitely don't add those images into the infobox- that would be totally inappropriate.

I do add the filmimage template to the talk page, hoping that someone will be able to find actual images from the films. But there does seem to be a pattern, as the same pictures are ending up in many articles. My guess is that there probably aren't any film posters readily available (I haven't seen one at IMDB for these yet, and given the rarity of the films, it's probably going to be difficult to get any screen shots or stills. There is some relevance to the article, but granted, it's not ideal. So my mind is to have some type of pic on the article until a real film image comes along, and then that can replace them. If you do get any feedback on this, please do let me know. Thanks. SkierRMH 05:54, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Important template talk

Hi Wisekwai! Your opinion would be most appreciated in Template talk:Film. Thanks. Hoverfish Talk 09:15, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Film icons

Thanks for uploading the Thai film icon. I am also trying to gather all such 128x128px icons in a group and create many missing ones. Some of them are uploaded in Commons and used in Wikipedia. Some of them are also with non-trasparent backgrounds and I am working on correcting them and reuploading them. I am still waiting for Pegship to come back from her Wikibreak, since she has been creating 50x50px icons for several countries, but with solid white background. So, sooner or later I will try to put them all in one easily-to-find category, preferably in Commons. Let me know your opinion and I will let you know when I'm ready for something massive. Hoverfish Talk 09:33, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

THanks WiseKwai your message means a lot to me. Good job on uploading the Thai image -as Hoverfish suggested -how did you do it? I beleive we are missing one for Germany and Iran etc. I thought we may have to await Her Pegship's return but if you have the ability the conjer them up quite easily it would be terrific. As for the category I beleive there is already a category in the commons for film icons ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 10:16, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes I'd noticed about that preferred format. Whatever the case all of the film-flag icons look great. The category for the commons icons is here-you may find it useful:

I am creating the remaining templates now - Mexico has just been drawn up but also with no flag icon. All the best ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 10:35, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

P.s good idea on the Film country template seperate category I'll ensure that the new templates are in this category Cheers ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 11:19, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

I would say that in this case of small film graphics the svg/png difference is null. Let them put info tags and don't worry about it. We'll make the full series as png's and let the svg's for more elaborate graphics. Hoverfish Talk 14:09, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Good start on the much needed icons. I now plan to remove the red links from some of the starter templates such as create the cinematographers/screenwriters/score musicans etc for each country -this is a good step to ridding of red links in the info boxes of articles -I just did the Icelandic ones. Eventually this will be looking great and each industry connected well really helping to connect each and every cinema related article on wikipedia. I just created the difficult Indian template -let me know if you would like to see any alterations etc..

I'll let you get on with it anyway ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 14:36, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Now this looks better. Too much bold makes it heavy. I wanted to say: I think they should all have Category:Modified Nuvola icons as well. At least several others do. Hoverfish Talk 14:40, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Ok. I hear you on that modified nuvola cat. I'll add that in.— WiseKwai 14:44, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Silent films

Hi Wisekwai. I have to admit responsibity for uploading those images of the silent actors and starting many of the silent films when I had just started wikipedia and didn't know a thing about the project!!!! Its just I saw the 1910s film categories almost empty at the time and really thought I would hwelp by adding a number of articles. The articles William Garwood ,Harry von Meter , Louise Lester , Charlotte Burton are mine created by me. I also added images of the cast memebrs in the absence of any film posters that exist to try to imrpove an understanding of the film. I was trying to help out the silent era -it would have been helpful if I was a member of films and knew about the project at the time that way I could have used info boxes!! Am I forgiven? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 13:35, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

THanks. I have just been adding the templates to the bottom of some film articles including Malaysia, Mexico, India Iran and Turkey. It good because it gives me a chance to browse through all our film articles -and become familiar and note which films may require attention - it is a break from heavy work on wikipedia!!! Please continue to add the icons they look terrific -Indian cinema are extremeley pleased with their template and awarded me a barnstar!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 17:13, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Just wondering what happened with the Pakistani flag? Remember that that image for deletion is being used on many page in the Template:Pakistan-film-stub. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 19:17, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

OK thats fine as long as it is replaced. Its going really well - there are still afew countries missing like Vietnam and Paraguay and Puerto Rico which appear in the world cinema pages but I don't knownif there are enough articles to make making a template worth it -I think we have just about got the main world producers ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 19:42, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

You done them all? Wow! Before \i create those remainders at a later date there is one last favor image I would like. An American film-flag image using the proper flag -the current one is like a cartoon version. Yes the popularity of the templates seem to be soaring!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 19:49, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Cineam icons

Superb job on creating all those icons! It's going well so far. Brilliant, thanks a lot! - Anas Talk? 19:49, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Much obliged amigo. Super job. THanks a million! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 20:17, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

OK I'm not really in the mood for a grilling after so much hard work. It just really annoys me like with the Russian category that users who are not from films just feel like deleting whatever they see. With the American films OK I agree it should only go in the cinema page after all many of the films have a number of templates anyway. However for non American films I feel the template is useful in the articles. The main concern I think is clutter -well most non American films and article don't have all the templates so one template at the bottom will look fine. I just wish there wasn't always such a fuss over American films!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 12:18, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

I think it is just the American template up for deletion ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 12:19, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

THanks for your support anyway. I beleived the templates were useful for connecting all elements of the respective cinema industry and presenting the contents visually which I would hope would be a useful asset -I fail to see how they are terrible and not legitimate. I only intended placing the American template at the footer of important articles with the criteria I suggested to improve article connection. HOwver as many of the American films have templates for series etc then I'll take them out. But as I said I am not removing any from the world others, judging by the very positive support from other users including User:Prolog. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 12:26, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

South-East Asian films

Good work on those new Thai articles. I am considering adding a few Indonesian films in between my Argentine work - are there any missing which you consider notable? Also I have been tacking the template against the very bottom line of the page under the stub icon so it looks tidier. Animation was a good addition if there are any other e.g Thai film studios etc feel free to add it. -P.S looks as if I was right about the support for the templates. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 12:03, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Oh I am interested in all film - Argentina happened to be the biggest indystry missing from wikipedia which is why I started there!! I just started Thai Thief (sorry I had to add a Thai film) I don't think the film exactly raved!! but I felt like adding it. Do you speak Thai fluently by the way as I have info for that film in Thai. I'll add an Indonesian film next. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 12:26, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Hey there we go Ca-bau-kan looks like a good film. I almost forgot the list of missing films!!! Ir surpised me just how many Indonesian films there are. I didn't realise it had much of an industry. The next stop later will be to rid of all the red links and remove the rd links from the navigation. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 13:08, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. Yes I'll leave the Thai films to your good self I think - I can see now why you don't link to imdb if they screw it all up! It makes me wonder about how accurate the cast details are of other films I have started!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 13:46, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes the Thai language looks difficult to learn -the words are so long!!!! I would be glad to collaborate on a few Thai films every now and then , particularly working with someone I know has a sound knowledge of the subject. My current main goal is to complete the lists and get all of the missing titles onto wikipedia first by country this is why I hoped those templates woulod provide an important framework. Eventually once the majoirty of missing films are in year order red linked in the lists my goals then is to solely work on adding articles in bulk and improving existing articles -particularly high priority articles e.g Gangs of New York. However I will be adding the odd articles here and there when I feel like it as I attempt to complete the lists. All the best. And what is it Kopf koon kaf or something. I went to Thailand in 1998 -loved it! but the traffic in Bangkok is amazing!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 14:12, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Sortable

Hi Wisekwai, I see you are trying out the sortable option in the Thai list. It's a good idea, with one drawback that could misfire badly. Giving class sortable makes all columns sortable, even ones that shouldn't be a sorting option. I have a feeling that we may get complaints. I want to ask some techies if we can have only some columns sortable, but I think I am asking too much. How do you feel about it? I mean it surely solves the dilema of alpha/chrono order, but it does leave some messy side effects open. Hoverfish Talk 16:26, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

No drawbacks in the Thai list, but I did try it in some others and there was some chaos. I also like sortable, but in order for it to work right, all the entries in the table have to be given right. So long as one keeps watch that all the dates are given uniformly and correctly, it will work right for "Date". But see what happens if you try to sort Thai 1950s-1960s by year? The result is not very clear, as dates are missing. I have also seen what happens when dates are given in other ways (day-month-year, mixed with plain year, or month-year). "Title" is the surest to work right, but it will sort also by articles given in the beginning, unless there is a trick to avoid this. Director may be also useful, if we have directors for all films. Actors... well it will depend who is given first. Genre, also good idea, but then all genres must be given in some order. Notability is a bit questionable. If the sortable-table-lists are maintained properly there shouldn't be any problem. I am being overly careful, as we are getting a lot of scrutiny lately and things start dissapearing. The List of Swiss films was just speedy deleted the other day (because it was empty, as are many others -oh well, thanks to you the Thai list is safe). Hoverfish Talk 18:32, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I have also gone thrugh all the country lists now and no list is now empty. Also somebody proposed by article Joymati (the first ever Assamese language films for a fron page DYK - Assamese film was completely missing yet was connected in the world templates!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 16:11, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Wikiproject Actors and Filmakers

Hey see my proposals at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals and the main WP Film and Biography talk page. Know anybody who is interested? Actors and all film people articles need a body on wikipedia to upkeep them asthey need more focus -it would be a part of Biogrpahy and Film. If you are interested or know somebody who would be, please let them know and whether you think it is a good progession for the project or not. Please leave your views at the council or biogrpahy main talk page. THanks ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 14:48, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

THanks yes thats what I meant about the tagging!!! For me this is a major project missing from wikipedia and I beelive it too big to be a part of films but should be a side project of its own. After all though , films would not exist without these people and if the bios are linked in mass I for one feel there is a verygood reason to foucs on improving these articles too. I would suggest naming it just Wikiproject Fiilmmakers incoorpating actors, direcotrs , cinematogrpahers, producers etc. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 16:10, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

I want it to be a project of its own but the tagging may need to be done like a workgroup. We'll see though I think. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 16:38, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Exactly, that is exactly how it would function I think -as you know I'm all for merging and connecting everything -I am hoping Screenwriters will see the strengths of becoming a part of it. The main project page would be divided as I suggested. As this gains momentum I will begin to think about the content - I'm a bit tired of creating templates at prsent!!!! Poeple must think I'm obsessed with them! Hoverfish is powering though that French list at present. I have begun adding the Austrian list silent films are now covered but 1930 onwards is very poor. We'll get there eventually!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 16:52, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Sortable lists

I was just thinking. List of West German films is pooly developed but the imdb as ahuge list. Using that table sorting programming would it be possible to sort all of the A-Z titles into the year order? Its just it'll take ages so manually sort all of those titles. Each title of course has the year. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 17:19, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes I must admit that when I first saw the List of THai films I initaly thought it a little confusing as i saw the years out of order but I can definately see the strengths of it once you see how they work properly. I don't have those excel or whatver facilities so may have to do it manually. The most developed list to date is List of Argentine films but I need to fill all the tables completely. Aussie Pete split the Aussie film years on this model also because of the sheer number of films. Eventually I anticipate they will become like List of Argentine films:1936 with some images to identify the film, some details on the studio/ film equipment etc and some written in paragprahing summarizing the films of every years -the bigggest release awards etc by country. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 17:49, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

New film department has started

You have supported the idea of starting Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/List and navigation management. Your help in setting up the page and subsequent participation are welcome and encouraged. Hoverfish Talk 07:40, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

By the way I saw you added column widths in the Thai list. I think it's better to do this by % (preceded by an overall 100% for the whole table) instead of fixed numbers. This has the advantage of fitting better to all browser window widths, plus it keeps all tables uniform in a page. I would also like to hear your opinion about it. Hoverfish Talk 08:21, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

It needs some visual/manual tailoring first. I try with measuring the table at some critical browser-window width and transform to %'s. The coding is quite straight after this. It goes without saying that the sum of all column widths must be exactly 100%, or it doesn't work right. The table -as a whole- can be given either full width (100%), or something less (sometimes I see given 98%). I'll have a go in the Thai list and you can take it from there for fine tuning. Hoverfish Talk 13:57, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

I just noticed you also took out the sorting. If you want decades to stay in alphabetical order, I think the year better appear in parenthesis after the title. Else, if you like the French arrangement, it can come as a header to each (small) group and the films within the year can be arranged alphabetically. Don't forget that we also have the Category:Thai films listing for full A-Z and also the Category:Thai-language films (which should be an exact duplicate, if I'm not mistaken). Hoverfish Talk 14:24, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Ok, I did the widths with year in the decades and without in 2000. I also corrected some alphabetization. Let me know. Hoverfish Talk 15:20, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

If you take away the year column (and you have 5 columns only), then I have made a little formatting template for the year header. Where the year line is, just type: {{Yearheader}} | '''[[2005 in film|2005]]''' and you have it all (center alignment, blue color, smaller line-height than bold text forces). I'll be in the French list. Hoverfish Talk 19:31, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm trying to find a lead for the List of Australian films, which is something of a dab, but not quite, as it doesn't disambiguate to different things. The one thing I'm not sure is if "List" can apply to several separate pages. I wouldn't like to say "Lists", as it's basically one list split in many pages because of data size. If I get it right, I will use the same lead in other split lists. Can you give me some feedback? Hoverfish Talk 16:05, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Ruang Talok 69

สวัสดีครับ (I'll leave it at that due to your listing as th-0). I just saw your edit pop up on my watchlist. I had it on the list because after seeing that film, I realized the description was incorrect. I hadn't got around to correcting it, but now you have. I'm not a movie buff at all, but will say that the film was quite enjoyable, with decent camera work, and the plot was different from the usual fare.

I'm a farang from the USA as well, and am considering spending extended time in Thailand, though my preference would be to live outside of Bangkok. Anyway, I figured I'd say 'hi' and thanks for your involvement in Thai-related articles. Tim Shuba 21:51, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Film biography

HI WiseKwai. I have started a mock up model page of the Film Biogrpahy project. The side biogrpahy template I reckon we could make a new one to combine both biogrpahy and film tasks. I have drawn up the templates that would be used on the main page for finding the content of each medium and section. I haven't completed the templates and linking yet but what do you think so far? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 14:41, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

See User:Ernst Stavro Blofeld/Film biography page model

Each section would have details on core articles, priorities, class system of articles, stubs in need of expansion etc. for each medium of film bio. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 14:43, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Oh yeah I know about the content and all I just wanted your opinion on how the page would be divided by medium and the boxes to link it together. I think the project plate should incorporate both film and bio goals. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 15:15, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

It has developed a little bit further now. I have moved the page to the lower casing also as you suggested ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 16:20, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Opinion needed

Please, offer you opinion/reply to the querry of an editor in the list management department. It concerns mentioning producer (meaning "studio", I think) in the lists (see the last years in List of Austrian films). He made a separate column and changed the order, but he is willing to use the last column "Notes" for it. I just would like other opinions stated, apart from mine. Thanks. International festivals

Hi, my talk page is a multi-forum type, so no problem there. But sometimes, I selct and copy discussions (including the other sides of the threads) to the relevant articles' talk pages. So all this may be copied to the list's talk soon. Yes, we should add all internationals, even if the title doesn't include the word per se. But my question is about some regional festivals, like the Pan African or the European. Are they also considered internation, though they include only some countries? Hoverfish Talk 16:53, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

I answered over at the list's talk page. let's take it from there, so that others can follow developments. Hoverfish Talk 17:12, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Your work on THai films is coming on very nicely indeed. And you are filling in the red links at a terrific rate!!Well done!!! Bit by bit these lists are getting more and more traffic and more and more users are helping to fill in the list on all the world lists. I have seen a major improvement in the lists even in one week. I take it you are using the missing list of THai films to help fill in the table? Saludos amigo ! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 21:50, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

P.S between us we have had 5 front page articles in four days!!! My next will be Uttara (film) which I started earlier. Tomorrow I feel like starting Loveaholic a 2006 THai film if you have no objections. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 21:52, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

I have now completed also 1935-1949 for Argentina and it is looking much better only 1950-present to go!!. Hoverfish I beleive has also begun work on the much needed German film lists and sorting the wrong categories. I really feel these lists provide a kind a framework for films on wikipedia and summarize periods of cinema very well. WHen I have time I will also be asking the biography project to incorporate the film bio into their templates. When this is done and I have made a few more improvments to the model page it -the new project should get the start next week I think. An admin has expressed hios approval on the council page too which is a bonus. I'll be off to bed now anyway. See ya! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 22:07, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
