Re: my tip wage credit article

Thanks for your note.  When I first got involved with Wikipedia as a new boy I used my talk page to start writing my article, not knowing the difficulties I would face later on when I wanted to move my article to the main namespace (I didn't know what "main namespace" was at the time).  After I had the article where I felt I could turn it into a proper article, I created the article page (in the main namespace, of course), and then copied my talk page text into that blank article.

So, my talk page has all the edit history from my development work, and I've ended up "betwixt and between" so to speak.

What I'd like to do is have my edit history moved over to the article in main namespace, and then have the article deleted from my talk page.  One user tried to do that for me, but the end result was that I kept the article from being deleted from my talk page because part of the process seemed to be to delete my main namespace article, and I feared losing all the work I'd done on the article subsequent to my copying it over.

I'm deeply involved as temporary sysop/administrator for the Tok Pisin Wikipedia and Wikitionary.  It's a major rebuild effort for both Wiki's, and it's taking a lot of time.  I'm making progress, but completion of my tip wage credit artice is suffering as a result.

I don't know who/where to ask for real help in getting my talk page cleared of my tip wage credit draft, but perhaps you can show me the way?

Thanks again, K. Kellogg-Smith 14:57, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Admin request

Thanks for offering to nominate me. I'm mostly interested in supporting work on Physics and Mathematics, alternative music and I'm currently trying to work my way through thousands of ancient images, bringing them in line with our modern image use policy. If you're still happy to nominate me, then I'd be glad to try for adminship. I'll start reading up :) - Papa November 1 08:26, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the nomination. I accept, and I'll update my nomination page after 0900 GMT when I have time to answer the questions properly. I'm afraid the barbecue takes priority this evening! Thanks again - Papa November 1 19:15, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Your message was one of the nicest things I've ever read on here, thank you. I quit smoking 26 days ago and it has been pretty easy up until this last week. The last four days have been some of the worst of my life. I think I focused all of my angst on what I felt was someone turning a blind eye toward obvious vandalism/harassment/disruption or whatever else it can be called. I also had a very persistent troll for five months, who daily stalked me and my photography and it took a massive amount of effort to achieve a ban for them. Their behavior was almost exactly the same behavior as the Chihuahua disruptor. All of these factors conspired to make me go off half-cocked. Your message, though, really made a difficult week better and I sincerely thank you for it. --David Shankbone 03:34, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Great news!

Now those, are wonderful news, dear Wizard - even tho your stressmeter still seems to be blowing off steam! :) I've got your mails, sweetie, and I'll get back to you there - and thanks for them! Love, Phaedriel - 04:19, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

I am frankly not sure. I just noticed that they were tagged by that bot. I wasn't sure about assessing them, so I waited a bit to start. If you think that I should just get rid of the template, I can do that. Captain panda 03:33, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I think I messed up the initial formatting on the Outside view section at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/DreamGuy 2, leaving it unclear who was endorsing which view. I've split apart the two entries, and removed your signature so that you can re-endorse whichever you meant to endorse (one or both). Thanks :) --Quiddity 00:36, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

The mess has been cleared up, and I just wanted to remind you to weigh-in there. Any relevant or helpful additions would be especially welcome. Thanks :) --Quiddity 17:43, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Ohio counties

Proofing done, courtesy of Microsoft Word :-) Two related matters, which might not work too well together:

  • I think it would look better if the origins section were widened, so that ____ County wouldn't display as

    _____
    County

but I don't know how to do it.
  • The article previously gave the number of civil townships in each county. Could you create an extra column? If you do that, I'll fill in the requisite information.

Thanks! Nyttend 02:04, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks much. I myself have a widescreen laptop, 13"×8¼", and I sometimes forget that most people have skinnier screens :-) I'm going to contact the user you mentioned, since I expect such a change would be useful for many states. Nyttend 14:27, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Moving to Commons

Don't I still have to follow the CSD rules? CSD I8 lists "The image has been marked with {{NowCommons}} for at least one week. Waiting one week is not necessary if it was the uploader who moved the image and marked it." as one of the criteria. If I'm exempt from this, then that's great. I just wasn't sure where I stood now. Let me know either way! Thanks, Papa November 23:12, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

OK, thanks. Normally I do things in batches anyway... first, move and tag images, then set commons categories and check that commons helper has set things properly. Once I'm happy with the status of the commons copy, I may go ahead and delete the local copy. Thanks for your help :) Papa November 23:31, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Untagged and AWB

Thanks for going through that one untagged subpage. I would be grateful if you would do that for the others, except for the first one. If you wish to do this, go to User:Psychless/Untagged. You can click one of the links in the "mixtures" header. Please put any non-bio and non-disambiguation articles in a subpage of User:Psychless/Untagged/Non-bio. You can just remove the disambiguation pages. That way those articles can be tagged with an appropriate banner as well, eventually. Also, if you have the time, could you approve me for AWB? Here's the link. I have over 500 mainspace edits. I will be doing the first one myself so you can safely ignore it. Psychless 18:51, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Admin nom

Thanks for offering to nominate me. Generally, I just do RC Patrol and the odd cleanup, and, so long as there are enough admins about when I report the vandals, I'm fine with not being an admin. I might go for it one day, though, when I have a bit more time, and ideas about how best I could use the adminship (to Wikipedia's advantage, not mine!). Thanks again. Stephenb (Talk) 08:08, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

armenian genocide is still in progress by all historians. publishing it from the mainpage is not neutral--hakozen 00:59, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

today in wikipedia, you only work for "armenian diaspora" who are in a anti-turkic campain. "armenian genocide" page of wikipedia is written by the armenian diaspora and the armenia based insurance companies in the world. belive that is a shame for the people who lost their relatives in turkish holocaust.--hakozen 01:34, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Hello. I noticed that you moved the article on the Belgian footballer Steven Defour here on the basis that the article name was mispelled. However, every source I have checked lists his last name as Defour. Accordingly, I am moving the article back to the original location (Steven Defour). If you disagree, please provide support for Dufour on the Talk page. Best regards. Jogurney 19:41, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Re: Admin

While I wouldn't be entirely against the notion of becoming an admin here, I honestly do not think I would be able to fulfill the criteria. For one, my edit scope on Wikipedia is relatively narrow as the vast majority of my edits are related to WP:Anime. Not only that, but I've gotten into some deep disputes over the past year or so which all ended well enough, but the talk page debates really tired me out; I've never been banned though. And then that's not even counting the disagreements I've had with the Air (visual novel) article and related sub articles with user White Cat. And even if I became an admin, I'm not sure not only what I could do to help as an admin, but am not sure I would want to delve too much time into the bureaucracy of Wikipedia since most of my time here is spent improving articles, copyediting other users' edits, or reverting vandalism. But thanks just the same; maybe some time in the future if I get more involved not only with the bureaucracy but with a much larger scope of article topics.-- 22:47, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

My plan

Based upon the discussion and kind words offered by you and others my plan is to do these things:

  1. Edit less than normal, for awhile anyway.
  2. Contribute less to discussion pages in the WP namespace, (save those discussions I am involved in currently)
  3. Try not to let Wikipedia upset me so much (which it does at times and my edits reflect it, i.e. I become rather hostile towards some people)
  4. Try to remember just how shitty of a school Northern Illinois University is, and that the president there is more likely to have graduated from Hollywood Upstairs Medical College than anywhere else.

A matter of policy

At the relevance mediation the subjects are: reject, essay or proposal. Changing a failed proposal to an essay is discouraged by policy, so I see two outcomes of the mediation: (1) Continued proposal or (2) rejected proposal. This is the stated purpose of the mediation by FG: "WikiLen and Kevin Murray claim the proposal now at Wikipedia:Relevance of content was rejected; I (Father Goose) claim the proposal is active and discussion of it is being disrupted. WikiLen and Kevin Murray have sought to change its status to "essay" (actually rejected); Newbyguesses and I have been changing it back to "proposal". I think that he clearly states the boundaries of the mediation issue. Constant off-track questions by the proponents are just a ruse to delay this process and wear down the participants. Please take charge and keep this discussion focused on track. --Kevin Murray 21:09, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
