Thanks for uploading Image:Ross School Logo.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. Munger wiki-linking[edit]

Sorry, wasn't trying to pick on any particular school. I try to clean up after people who go around wiki-linking silly things like the word furniture or place names like Pasadena. Thanks for the welcome. Yes, a UM grad. How are you? My editing skills are quite limited at this juncture, so I'm wondering if you might help with the Ross page? I've used the Ross School's public domain section to download the .gif file that is currently used on the page. Wikipedia requires a notice of authentication/permissioning, that I don't know how to provide. The .gif image is definitely in the public domain, so I'm wondering if you might care to authenticate it? Other issues: 1) the site, globally, seems to need more photographs, and more languages (especially for main article); 2) there appear to be a host of articles under various categories (alums, housing, building...), but they don't appear to be accessible from the main article in a useful, visible, coherent fashion; 3) many of the schools have no page...with a page added, users (me) might add more detail.

Please understand that I'm not naturally a delgator, nor am I attempting to do so here, I simply don't have the technical competence to do anything of these things in a way that will improve the article.

Re: Possible Addition of Template to UM page?[edit]

I apologize for the delay in response (see the note at the top of my talk page for the reason). Anyways, are you referring to the image of company logos that is on the MIT page? I don't see how creating an image like that is difficult - all one has to do is go to company websites (if one exists), do a screen capture, and copy and paste using a graphics tool like Photoshop. However, this might pose a problem, given that company logos are trademarks/copyrights (one can argue that such logos can, in the right context, be used for educational purposes. This is where the "fair use" rationale really comes in handy). Also, how can we determine which companies should show up in such an image? I'll leave that up to you to decide, though in my mind the companies must be large/significant (e.g. Google) for inclusion. Pentawing^Talk 02:42, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This content dispute is to the point of ridiculousness and according to Wikipedia this is one of the steps before moving onto arbitration. Rather than discussing this topic you have turned this into an edit war and I would hope you will now contribute to the discussion. College football championship listings[edit]

I looked over the article and the lists that you provided from the NCAA website. However, I don't know if there is a clear way to be able to resolve this problem without a drawn-out edit war. Whoever edited the Wikipedia article to its current state certainly found an outside source, which was very extensive (it uses many sources, some esoteric) and (unfortunately) fairly well-established. Though the NCAA list is equally as valid, the problem I am seeing is that there are several people who disagree with the NCAA source and found something else for one reason or another.

The Wikipedia article does point out some caveats about several schools (including UM) claiming different numbers of championships from the list provided in the article (with some schools actually claiming fewer national championships). However, if one were to utilize the NCAA listings in its entirety for the article, someone else might revert it back with the argument that there are those who don't believe the NCAA list is the definitive one and that the NCAA list wasn't always the official listing at some other time period (notably the 1920s to the 1940s, according to the source I mentioned above, if I recall correctly), and would be unwilling to accept using the NCAA listings.

In such a case, did you try posting a comment on that article's talk page, get a response, and try to talk it over with those people whose opinions differ on which list to use? The last thing I want is a major edit war which would require an arbitrator to step in (and God forbid having Jimbo Wales himself decide the issue). In the meantime, try looking for other college football fans (or fellow Wolverines if you are more comfortable talking to them. earth might be one to try). If you still feel the Wikipedia article needs some more work, try expanding on the caveats I mentioned and cite the NCAA list. Pentawing^Talk 01:35, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
