February 2024[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Alon Alush. I wanted to let you know that one or more external links you added to List of women in the Bible have been removed because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Alon Alush (talk) 19:12, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Stop it, please[edit]

It appears that you are currently spamming a website you're involved with. Don't do that. We do have a place for external links, but it's not at the top of the article. See WP:EL and WP:COMMUNICATE.

Fwiw, I added your website here: Women_in_the_Bible#External_links. We'll see if it sticks. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 19:20, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ahh, thank you! This is our first time editing on Wikipedia so we are still learning the system. Thank you for adding the link to the external links space, that is what we were trying to do in the first place! Appreciate it. Womeninbible (talk) 19:22, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

February 2024[edit]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because your account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Secretlondon (talk) 19:49, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Adding to what Secretlondon said above, the problem so far is that your edits [1] reads like you are here to promote your website on WP. You can't. Having looked at your website, it seems to me though that it would be a nice thing to have on at least some of these articles, it looks very useful since we Wikipedians LOVE good sources and you seem to have plenty of those.

On your choice of username, we don't allow usernames that implies shared use, user accounts are personal. "Debbie from Womeninbible" is fine, or something more obscure like "Cushite Woman" or whatever you like. Hope this helps some, and that you try to appeal the block. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 20:23, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wow Secretlondon I have just seen this and am a little shocked by what looks like a swift extreme response. IMO a block should be a last resort not a first one. Instruction should come before punishment. Alon Alush's response was better, and if I am not reading this incorrectly, the user you blocked, Womeninbible, wasn't the one who re-added the link. Gråbergs Gråa Sång did, with some encouragement to change that user name - another appropriate response. Let's help motivated users learn instead of driving them off. Perhaps you could consider helping with that block? Jenhawk777 (talk) 18:22, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry this is absolutely normal practice for promotional usernames on Wikipedia:Usernames for administrator attention. We unblock as quickly once the issue is sorted. Secretlondon (talk) 20:28, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know that I agree it is the normal practice, however you don't seem adverse to helping them out. Perhaps you could tell them what they need to do. Coming from you might make a difference. Jenhawk777 (talk) 17:20, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
