Speedy deletion nomination of User:OccultZone[edit]

Hello Wreedps,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged User:OccultZone for deletion in response to your request.

If you didn't intend to make such a request and don't want the article to be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. OccultZone (Talk) 02:51, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You uploaded this on Commons as your "own work", but that';s obviously not the case: the printing indicates that it's been published somewhere, and as a photo taken in 1952, it's still in copyright. To use it here, you're going to have to upload it here on WIkipedia under our NFC (non-free content, i.e. "fair use") standards. I'd do it for you, but I don't know where you got it from, and it's necessary to indicate that on the upload form. If you want to say here where it came from, I'll take care of it for you. In the meantime, I've tagged the image for deletion on Commons. BMK (talk) 10:22, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Beyond My Ken: Are you sure? Check User talk:OccultZone#Grandfather photo, he had asked me that how he can upload the photo of his grandfather, so I told him about the wikicommons. OccultZone (Talk) 11:18, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'm sure. It's clearly been previously published, and Wreedps obviously didn't take the photo, so it's presumed to be copyrighted unless shown otherwise. You should be careful about the advice you give to new users regarding image policy. BMK (talk) 13:31, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It would be nice if you just left the picture of my grandfather alone. There is no copyright on the work.

The presumption is that any published image is copyrighted, so for your statement to be useful, you'll need to prove that their is no copyright. BMK (talk) 13:31, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Just spoke to my father, Billy Reed's son and he said the photographer is dead. I assume this means I am screwed and cannot use the picture?
No, we don't need the photographer's permission, what we need is where it was originally published and, if possible, the photographer's name. Or, really, any information which will help identify the picture for the fair use rationale. BMK (talk) 19:03, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'll get all that to you this evening!

I'm waiting for that. BTW, the same goes for the two other images you uploaded to Commons. BMK (talk) 16:16, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. Cantwell in Atlanta Georgia. He was from Shawano where Billy Reed was born. They both went into the Shawano Sports Hall of Fame together when we went to Wisconsin years ago. He always invited Billy to watch the Braves, because he was one of the team doctors.
OK, I've uploaded your image under the name File:BillyReedBostonBraves 1952.jpg and have included a fair use rationale using the information you provided. I've added it to the article.

The next time something like this happens, and an image you upload at Commons has been nominated for deletion, do not upload it again under a different name - doing that is likely to get you into trouble.

If you come across aby additional information about the image, you can edit the file summary and add it there. BMK (talk) 16:47, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Aye Aye, Captain! Thanks for the help.
See BMK, told you. OccultZone (Talk) 16:52, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, no, you didn't. The image should not have been uploaded to Commons, and your sending him there was an error. I uploaded it here. BMK (talk) 16:57, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds fair. Thanks for correcting me. OccultZone (Talk) 17:04, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
