Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, but when you add or change content, as you did to the article Williamson High School, please cite a reliable source for your addition. What does and doesn't belong in an encyclopedia[edit]

Hi, I've removed much of the content you added to two school articles, in part per our guidelines at WP:WPSCH/AG: we don't include school fight songs, lists of non notable students and teachers, nor mention of team athletic achievements unless those teams at least won state titles. Nor can we accept content that's unsourced, per WP:RELIABLE--I see you were notified of that concern in 2012. Additionally, devoting the vast majority of a school's article to the history of its athletics department is an example of WP:UNDUE. Thank you, 2601:188:180:11F0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 13:00, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Can you let me know which two pages that were edited? I had added quite a bit of info and don't want it lost, so I'll atleast copy it over to my hard drive. Also curious as to why several other local high schools weren't changed yet their pages follow similar themes and contain "unimportant" things. Thanks!

  • Williamson, Mingo and Tug Valley articles. Let me know which other articles you're referring to and I'll take a look. I'm making no personal judgments re: the relative importance of content, but adhering to encyclopedic guidelines, which are clear on sourcing and notability issues. On one of the articles you appear to have copied content verbatim--this is usually not permitted as copyright violation, but since the source was a United Sates government release as information on a landmark, it may be free of copyright restrictions. We'll need to check on that. Thanks, 2601:188:180:11F0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 15:19, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Great! Thanks for the info, we will grab the old page versions for our own reference. Also, please look into "Belfry High School" in Belfry, KY...lot of stuff on there. Have a great weekend!

  • Sorry to extend the tutorial, but who is 'we' and 'our?' Wikipedia accounts may not represent more than one person, and may not be used on behalf of an organization or group. Thanks, 2601:188:180:11F0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 01:04, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am a part of a group of sports historians that work compiling info in the region with Mingo Central, Tug Valley, and Williamson High Schools. We were hoping to expand our state (West Virginia's high school sports histories) across the web. Will pass the world along to the team that we will no longer use Wikipedia. My account does however, solely represent me.

  • Got it. A worthy endeavor. You can add content to Wikipedia, but most of what happens on a high school athletic field--short of state or national titles--isn't notable for encyclopedic inclusion. Best of luck, 2601:188:180:11F0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 01:14, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
