First Yacht Club in North America.

Hi!

I'm pretty sure that the first Yacht Club in North America wasn't the Armdale Yacht Club, but the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron next door. Here's their website- www.rnsys.com (I'll let you make the change on the main page if you would.) Aloha27 (talk) 12:21, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Notability of Yacht Club of Lübeck

A tag has been placed on Yacht Club of Lübeck requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. ←Signed:→Mr. E. Sánchez Get to know me! / Talk to me!←at≈:→ 04:08, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Arno Breitmeyer

Hi Xufanc, For the time being I have only looked at Arno Breitmeyer, and have not been terribly lucky: http://www.calsky.com/lexikon/de/txt/h/ha/hans_von_tschammer_und_osten.php http://www.rrk-online.de/rudern/chronrudern/deumeiru/dm-m-achter.htm

In http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?p=1040151. which however is only a forum entry in which someone states the date he was born was 19.04.03 in Berlin and that he died 20.04.44 Brigadeführer (ranked as Generalmajor, the equivalent of major-general (U.S.) or Brigadier-general in the British Army) In the above he seems to have been quite a rower as you will see. Anyway, I will get back to you with the other query. Dieter Simon (talk) 22:56, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Dieter_Simon"

Further to your query on my own talk page whether he was ever Reichssportführer I am afraid I haven't been terribly lucky. One source I found which probably isn't very appropriate to cite is :http://thepedia.com/define/Arno_Breitmeyer but it seems to point the way that he did hold the rank.
I am afraid I am not a participant in the German Wiki, they don't have an article on him so far, do they? However, how about leaving a query on our own Wikipedia:Reference desk? You never know, you might just get the occasional German expert who might know something about him. Sorry I can't do better. NSRL in Czechoslovakia

Right, Xufanc, the first thing you need to think about is the fact that during the Nazi period Czechoslovakia was called "(Protektorat) Böhmen und Mähren" and not Czechoslovakia, so anything your want to trace there needs to be looked up either there or under "(Protectorate) Bohemia and Moravia" for the English language version. Having said that, I hope it helps you being able to trace what you are looking for as regards to the NSRL. I have to say, however, that I have looked around but have not been able to find anything.

If I may, however, give you better advice still, put your queries into this Wikipedia helpline: Wikipedia:Reference desk It may attract some helpful replies from some of our fellow-Wikipedians. Good luck. Dieter Simon (talk) 18:32, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

This will be my last reference to your query because I really have no time these days. However, I have now come to the conclusion that if you want to find out more about NSRL activities in the area of former Czechoslovakia during the period up to 1944 you need to look for NSRL Sportbereich Sudetenland because that is what it was called then.
The German Wikipedia under Nationalsozialistischer Reichsbund für Leibesübungen gives you the various "Sportsbereiche" of which Sudetenland was the one for the area you are looking for. The blue link I gave you above will show you the Deutsch version on the left side on which you can click. All your further queries re "Czechoslovakia" will really have to continue under the name of NSRL Sudetenland if you want to find anything. Dieter Simon (talk) 01:07, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
Well done, Xufanc, excellent article. Many thanks. Dieter Simon (talk) 22:57, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Hitler Youth sidebar

Well, that is what these sidebars are for, to allow even faster access to all topics belonging together — and if a topic is in a sidebar (like Hitler Youth is in the Template:Nazism sidebar), the sidebar should be in the article. Lars T. (talk) 14:29, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Nazism template

Perhaps it is best not to "overload" the Nazism template by adding too many specific German organizations to it. It may be best to create a separate {{Nazi Organisations}} for these articles. I can help you in making that if you need any help. C mon (talk) 13:42, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

I'd do only German organizations (may be a separate template for foreign ones) and I'd see how many organizations would be on the template. If it is less than 10 there is no need for categorization. If it is more, you might want to categorize. I'd prefer a substantial categorization (para-military/political/social/economic) over a major/minor based one, but that really depends on how many there are and how they would be distributed over the categories. Wilhelm Frick

Regarding the post-mortem photo of Frick, my reason for restoring the image was simple. The IP in question, 41.245.168.43 (talkcontribsdeleted contribsWHOISRDNStraceRBLshttpblock userblock logAbuse Report) had been circulating through a number of pages, repeatedly and disruptively removing images of dead Nazis. After he violated the three-revert rule (WP:3RR) he was blocked. When this came to my attention, I looked through all his contributions and reverted any of his deletions that hadn't already been reverted by someone else. As to why the images were put there in the first place, I haven't the faintest idea. I suppose one could argue that it's worthwhile to give Wikipedia readers a visual and graphic depiction of what happened to Nazi war criminals after the war, in the same sense that this image makes an impression that is difficult to duplicate with text, but that's just my opinion. It's also worth noting that the images are in the public domain, and free images are hard to find. For more on this subject, it might be useful to peruse WP:NOTCENSORED. Hope this helps. --Steven J. Anderson (talk) 08:49, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

More Frick

Incidentally, I looked through some of the edits you made to the article and discovered something troubling. One of the references you use is this webpage, which appears to be an online version of a book by one Charles W. Porter. The book seems little more than a hamfisted attempt to exonerate Nazi war criminals. Looking at the homepage for jrbooksonline.com, one finds a catalog of antisemitic and white supremacist material. And when one examines Mr. Porter's Statement of Purpose it becomes evident that he is a Holocaust denier of the most disgusting sort. Your other references seem impeccable. Surely, you must realize that this source comes nowhere near meeting Wikipedia's standards for reliable sources. I'm sure you'll agree that both the reference and the material it supports must go. I'll leave it to you to make the change, since you've obviously worked so hard to improve the article. --Steven J. Anderson (talk) 09:28, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I removed the external link you placed as it is commercial in nature and adds no value. I think it would qualify to be added under the ==Further reading== section of the article, setup as a book like the others. Take care. Green Squares (talk) 20:20, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Ekkamai Station

Hello. I've noticed your edition of a Bangkok skytrain station page, Ekkamai. I'd like to tell you that name Ekkamai, with 'tt', is spelt officially by the BTS. The pronunciation in Thai is also 'ek-ka-mai', not 'e-ka-mai'.

Common stingray

I can't find a single online reference to either "beignets de foie de raie" and "foie de raie en croute" that connects those dishes to the common stingray, and neither of the two references you provided seem to mention the species of ray used in "skate liver". Mae Nak and Phra Khanong

What is your source for the district boundary change? Because I once tried to confirm this claim from tour-bangkok-legacies, and as I wrote on my blog I found the official announcement on the creation of Suan Luang district in 1993 (PDF), and the map in that shows the site of the shrine to be in Suan Luang subdistrict then already, and thus it was removed from Phra Khanong in 1988 when Suan Luang became part of the newly created district Prawet. andy (talk) 20:49, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Super article

The article that you just created, Japanese occupation of Cambodia, seems long but not really long at all. So I get an idea that maybe you should write other details about the Japanese occupation of Laos and Vietnam, and then join all of these together into a new article with title as Japanese occupation of French Indochina. That means the article Japanese occupation of Cambodia will be redirected to the new one. What'd you think? 207.233.70.52 (talk) 16:46, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

I have been researching. There is much say about Vietnam's Japanese occupation, a lot of it is already in article Vietnam during World War II . But very little about Laos, the occupation by Japan there was benign and dozy, much as the French one. Xufanc (talk) 00:11, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Using flags in infoboxs

Greetings. I just reverted an edit you made earlier this month ([1]), where you added a flag to the infobox at Lon Nol, because WP:MOSFLAG says "Do not use a flag when a picture of the subject is not available". The reason I noted this on your talk page when I already had noted it in the accompanying edit summary to the revert, is since your edit took place sometime ago I was afraid you would miss it, and I was worried because I thought it best to let you know of the guideline highlighted so as to try to ensure any future work you undertake reflects it. Thanks, Otumba (talk) 18:44, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

1997 coup in Cambodia

Perhaps an article on that subject should be started? Right now it's just a redirect to Modern Cambodia, where I made appropriate changes. I couldn't find much information on that topic (only a few short newspaper articles), but just a stub would be a start. --Miacek and his crime-fighting dog (woof!) 17:26, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

I'd prefer '1997 shootout in Cambodia', as there was some fighting in the north, too, probably near Khmer Rouge controlled pockets, as Libération reported [2]. --Miacek and his crime-fighting dog (woof!) 08:23, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi Xufanc! Thanks so much for starting an article on the dove shell genus Mitrella. That is the first genus article we have in the sea snail family Columbellidae (a family that in reality contains a lot of species and genera) and therefore the article on this genus is very welcome! The issue at hand here is WP:edit waring, not vandalism. Asking for a third party opinion is an appropriate solution, but please note that edit wars cannot occur with only one engaged editor. Cambodian history in the 1980's

I submitted an edit with more detail on the period of the 1980's on the cambodia page and found that you had simply reverted all changes with the comment: 'removed nonsense'. I would appreciate in future if you would post in the talk page with an explanation for the removal of content. I would also like an explanation now as to why you thought that what I researched was nonsense, and failure to supply one in the next few days will result in me re-adding the content. The single sentence that currently covers the period from 1979 to 1982 is simply not sufficient nor is it very accurate. I am doing my best to rectify this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Drunkenduncan (talkcontribs) 12:48, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

You have a good point, they did fight all the time. I maybe should have worded it more towards my own belief that the word coalition was only used by the united nations as a pr effort to make the situation sound more stable and legitimate than it really was. The wiki page for the Coalition Government of Democratic Kampuchea however supports exactly what I wrote. Would you object if I added my edit back in but with the words "a coalition of political forces called the Coalition Government of Democratic Kampuchea was established with the blessing of the United Nations." changed to "country was divided up between three factions that the United Nations euphemistically referred to as Coalition Government of Democratic Kampuchea" I believe this is fairly accurate and takes your objection into account. I may also look at changing the Coalition Government of Democratic Kampuchea page too but that will require more research so I may not get around to it for a while. You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 20:07, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Montsant DO, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Montsant. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 16:44, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

FYI

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Montsant a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you.

Hola Xufanc.

Bona tarda,

I us hi vaig trobar.

Atentament,

Vilallonga (talk) 10:46, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Atentament, Vilallonga (talk) 11:49, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Però pel que veig voleu continuar. Us he deixat una nota a la discussió. Vilallonga (talk) 11:55, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Southwestern Maluku

Thank you for your recent edits on the articles related to Southwestern Maluku. I really appreciate all help in spreading knowledge about this region. However, I would like to ask you to take a few things into considaration:

Barat Daya Islands

  • You changed the definition of the Barat Daya Islands from consisting of only islands in the inner Banda Arc to including islands that are in the outer arc as well.
    • Barat Daya Islands Kabupaten Maluku Barat Daya.
    • To my knowledge Kabupaten Maluku Barat Daya = Barat Daya Islands (Liran, Wetar, Kisar, Romang etc.) + Selatan Daya Islands (Letti, Moa, Lakor, Luang, Sermatang, Marsela, Babar etc.).

Maluku (province)

  • The de jure capital of Kabupaten Maluku Barat Daya is "Tiakur Kecamatan Moa Lakor", It is says so in article 7 of law number 31 of the year 2008. If you wish to change the name to "Tiakur, in Moa Island, Moa Lakor Subdistrict" it requires regulation from the central government in Jakarta. I would settle for "Tiakur Kecamatan Moa Lakor, on Moa Island"

Thank you for your useful hints and corrections. I took most of the information on the Southwestern group from the following publication: Kal Muller, Spice Islands; The Moluccas, Indonesia Travel Guides. Periplus Editions. Singapore 1991 ISBN 0-945971-07-9 I was not aware that there were two divisions within the group. I have not seen that mentioned yet in a publication. Please feel free to make the necessary changes and perhaps adding an article on the Selatan Daya Islands. Xufanc (talk) 14:41, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Well, it was actually right there in the article:
--Tjibbe I (talk) 23:13, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
It is difficult for any uninformed reader to make head or tail of the article now. It lacks clarity and is vague regarding which islands are part of the Barat Daya Islands. Also there is a confusion between a restricted sense and a wider sense of what are the Southwestern Moluccas (The Indonesian term "Barat Daya" seems to have a too restricted and obscure sense). Especially, since the article is supposed to talk about the Southwestern Islands of Maluku, perhaps it would be better to do away with the Indonesian term and rename the article Southwestern Moluccas in English. According to the chapter Southwestern Islands (of the Moluccas) in the Periplus Editions guide there are two arc sections within SW Maluku. One goes from Manuk to Damar (the provincial border between Maluku and Northern Maluku cutting across it). And the other arc from Babar to Wetar. If you check Google Earth this is quite apparent. Furthermore the geology of both arc sections differentiates them. The first arc between Manuk and Damar is made up of volcanic islands, the second one between Babar and Wetar consists generally of limestone and low-lying swampy islands. The jumble between administrative and geographic classifications needs resolution. A map needs to be added, as well as a comprehensive list of islands. Whether the SW Maluku connect with or are part of other wider arcs highlights islands that are not part of the SW Maluku area and adds to the confusion. Xufanc (talk) 10:10, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

This article strikes me as vandalism, but seeing as you are definitely not a vandal, I wonder why you wrote it is "Breast shaped hill" actually a real term used by a lot of people? Passionless -Talk 06:34, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Kaeng lueang and kaeng som

"Kaeng lueang" can indeed be called "kaeng som" in Southern Thailand but it is not the same dish as the Central Thai "kaeng som". It only shares the same name. I asked one of my Southern Thai friends and the word "kaeng lueang" is also used in the South, but more in the upper areas. It is mainly the deep south that uses the word "kaeng som". It is like with "khao soi". In Northern Thailand "khao soi" is a coconut curry soup with egg noodles, whereas in Laos, it is a meat broth with strips of thick steamed rice cake.

As for the so-called "yellow curry" (kaeng kari), this dish came in to Thailand probably from Malaysia. The way the curry is made, is very much a Malay adaptation of an Indian curry as it uses dried galangal, something that is very Malay/Indonesian but not very Indian to do. - Takeaway (talk) 09:26, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for your clarifications. It is a long time since I wanted to make this article but was not sure on how to approach it. I have included both terms using the Thai article as guideline. My wife, however, says that the term "kaeng lueang" in the context of Southern kaeng som is probably modern, not of traditional origin. She doesn't remember hearing it in her youth. It is possible that some restaurants in tourist areas throughout the country use the term because it is present in cookbooks in English. And also because some restaurants may want to include both versions of the curry in their menu with a distinct name for each variant. At any rate, after talking to Thais, to me it seems that the crux of the question is what is being emphasized when choosing a particular name, for the essence of this curry is its sourness, not its color. Thais who are into linguistics say that the "som" does not refer to "orange", but to sourness, the color being irrelevant. Xufanc (talk) 09:35, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
I have removed the term "misnomer", to make it neutral. Xufanc (talk) 10:09, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
As I said before, the name kaeng lueang is also used in the South according to one of my friends from Southern Thailand. It just depends on which part of the South you are. In the upper parts of the South, closer to the Central regions where one finds the Central Thai kaeng som, people apparently use the word kaeng lueang to differentiate the two, not just for tourists, but for themselves. - Takeaway (talk) 12:53, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
That is very enlightening and it would be important to include. If you have a citation it should be mentioned in the text. So the article would be comprehensive. I am happy with any other constructive additions you make to the article. Xufanc (talk) 17:18, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

WP:RSA Welcome

Hi, Xufanc
Welcome to WikiProject South Africa!
We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles relevant to South Africa. Here are some points that may be helpful:

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

Again, welcome! We hope you enjoy working on this project.

This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Groot River (Southern Cape), and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Groot River (Eastern Cape).

MadmanBot (talk) 18:34, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

I confess that I am puzzled about the reason for the split of the Groot River content into separate pages for Groot River (Eastern Cape) and Groot River (Southern Cape), which is what triggered the copyright bot. If they are two separate rivers, then it probably makes sense to split into two pages, but it seems to me from the history that they may be either the same river, or tributaries of the same river. In which case, wouldn't it make more sense to keep them together? If they are two separate rivers, do you think this could be made clearer in the text? I found it very confusing the way it is now. The other point I wanted to mention is that there appears to have been no discussion on the content split before it was done and no attribution (which I have now added to both pages). There are guidelines for splitting overly large articles and also clear policies on copying withing Wikipedia, none of which appear to have been followed. My main concern was to deal with the copyright issue (which just needed the correct attribution). That's dealt with now, so I will move on but I thought I should drop you a line here to explain what I've done and why.--CharlieDelta (talk) 08:48, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
The reason I split it is that they are two different rivers and in different provinces. One is a tributary of the Gourits River and the other is a tributary of the Gamtoos River and this is made very clear in the text; already at the top it says This article is about the tributary of the Gourits River and This article is about the tributary of the Gamtoos River respectively. There is a map as well. If they would have been the same river, I would not have created a new page; the bot sent its message while I was working on it. Xufanc (talk) 08:59, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Synonyms for Musa balbisiana

Hi, I see from the page history that you added the long list of synonyms to the taxobox at Musa balbisiana, but didn't provide a source. Do you remember where you got them from? Quite a few of them don't agree with reliable sources, such as the World Checklist of Selected Plant Families and this list. WP:FOOD Needs You!

Hi there Xufanc! I've noticed you have yourself listed as a member of the Food and Drink Wikiproject. Unfortunately it looks like the project has been slowly sliding into inactivity except for a couple of people. That makes me a sad potato, and nobody likes a sad potato amirite?

If you'd like to turn my frown upside down, can you do two small things?

First off, go here and add {{Tick}} (checkY) next to your name if you're still part of the project.

Second, go to the project talkpage and participate in a discussion about how to make the project more active, and how to go about making articles in our area of interest a lot better.

You don't want to make me cry, do you? Potatoes have a lot of eyes you know. So come on, join in! :)

Blocking

I have been affected by a block, accused of running an open proxy. I am using the IP of the school where I work and have not done any untoward activity. (Xufanc (talk) 07:51, 19 June 2013 (UTC)). {{unblock|affected by a block while using the IP of my workplace}}

Clearing an autoblock

Due to the nature of the block applied we need additional information before we can decide whether to unblock you. It is very likely that you are not personally blocked. If you are prevented from editing, it may be because you are autoblocked or blocked because of your IP address. Without further details there is nothing further we can do to review or lift your block. Please follow these instructions:

  1. If you have a Wikipedia account, please ensure that you are logged in.
Your account name will be visible in the top right of this page if you are.
If it isn't, try bypassing your web browser's cache.
  2. Try to edit the Sandbox.
  3. If you are still blocked, copy the {{unblock-auto|...}} code generated for you under the "IP blocked?" section. This is usually hidden within the "What do I do now?" section. If so, just click the "[show]" link to the right hand side to show this text.
  4. Paste the code at the bottom of your user talk page and click save.

If you are not blocked from editing the sandbox then the autoblock on your IP address has already expired and you can resume editing. Mdann52 (talk) 12:41, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

It seems to be solved, thank you. Xufanc (talk) 01:38, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

Procedural decline; you need to use {{unblock-auto}} (or, if this is happening too much, request IPBE for yourself. — Daniel Case (talk) 16:42, 25 June 2013 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. It looks complicated. Maybe it is time to take a little holiday from Wikipedia and do other stuff (my wife keeps telling me I am spending way to much time in front of the computer screen). I shall check sometime later.Xufanc (talk) 01:35, 26 June 2013 (UTC)
