The artist is Rowena Morrill, but sadly I am not sure if she has leased her work for public viewing or not. The image will stay on wikipedia, however it does need reference. If you could find anything about Rowena allowing this beautiful painting to be used, then please go ahead, it would really help. Thank you (PS I think its the best picture of Lúthien I've seen)

Goodness. I've been looking through your contributions, and your overhaul (or rather complete rewrite) of House of Hador was very impressive. <flushed> And I though I was only idling my time during summer work practice... Empting a category I stumbled across was also one of minor affairs. I've been working seriously on Edain section; if you're interested, see House of Bëor, House of Haleth, Easterlings (First Age) and articles that are linked from these. Any improvements all more than welcomed, especially since mai iinglish iz fa from perfect. Currently preparing to expand Túrin and Beren articles (an overwhelming task), but otherwise I suppose I've finished with the section. MER with possibilities

I just created the redirect Alliterative verse by J. R. R. Tolkien. I also put it in "redirects with possibilities. Do you think it is possible to create a "Middle-earth redirects with possibilities" category, probably as a subcategory of Category:Middle-earth redirects to sections. A note could also be added to Category:Middle-earth redirects to lists expanding on the note that says "not notable enough to have a separate page" - saying that redirects to topics that might one day have their own page are in this new category? What do you think? Another candidate would be the redirect Bibliography of J. R. R. Tolkien. Carcharoth 12:44, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm not so sure about "Redirect with possibilities", as I would prefer first to expand something, then categorise. Yet if you want to create such a category, possibly it should rather be a subcat of M-e redirects, with a big notice on WikiProject page encouraging to expand these redirects. Middle-earth redirects from redundant titles

Category:Middle-earth redirects from redundant titles. I like it! The bad news is that Category:Middle-earth redirects wasn't fully populated. I did a lot of the populating of that category, though I got someone with AWB to import a load of hobbit names, but there are probably a lot of redirects out there that aren't caught in our net. I once asked about whether AWB could do a combined list of "what redirects here" for all the articles on a list of hundreds of pages, but never followed that up. Would you have any idea how to track down all the redirects? (They are labelled as such on "what links here" for individual pages). Carcharoth 15:49, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Tolkien battles may be deleted!

Battle of the Pelennor Fields, of all things, is on AfD! Second Battle of Hogwarts was recently deleted and redirected to Harry Potter's war article, and they've set their sights on Tolkien battles. Apparently, their reasoning is if you delete one fictional battle you'd have to delete all of them. Uthanc 16:38, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

More redirects and categories stuff

I've just seen the 'renaming' of the orcs category - good work. There are some entries on that list, though, that aren't in the category. Do you think you could deal with that? I also noted your update to Portal:Middle-earth/Pages - thanks. May I ask how you discovered Trotter (The Lord of the Rings)? I noticed you put "??" next to it - I'm a bit concerned about it as well. I suppose I was the first one to notice Trotter article when I reverted Inhloli's addition of the link to Aragorn article, but did not procede as I was busy at that moment and had no will to discourage Inhloli from using Wikipedia. gulf of lune

You reverted my re-addition of a notability tag to Gulf of Lune - I don't see how merging this article can help it much - it needs some context, or deletion. I find it unlikely that this article would find much mention at all except in passing perhaps in relation to the grey havens in a plot summary - do you think it is relavent in some other way that I ahven't thought of? WikiProject Middle-earth collaboration

I'm thinking of trying something different to get more editing going on Middle-earth articles, and more interest at the WikiProject. I came across your sandbox version of The Children of Hurin, and wondered whether that would be a good candidate for a collaboration? Either that, or one of the other book articles. I will gladly do what I can, though I still hope finishing this one. Concerning CoH, yes, I suppose there's yet a good deal that can be added, and collaboration would help it greatly; indeed I was considering to raise a couple of topics on the talk page, especially on how are we to 'synchronise' the CoH article, Narn i Chîn Húrin, The Lay of the Children of Húrin and Túrin Turambar in respect of overlapping content. The Hobbit also requires much work, especialy after that synopsis epopee... Again, I'll do what I can. Súrendil 16:43, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Top-importance Tolkien articles

Hi Súrendil. I noticed some reassessments of articles to top-importance. I generally agree with the ones you've added there, but in the past have tried to keep the number in that category manageable. I like to think of it as the articles that should eventually be brought up to featured article standard, so I feel this category is best kept small. What do you think? It might be worth having another go at Wikipedia:WikiProject Middle-earth/Assessment/Importance. Sometimes a manual layout is better than categories. Do you want to have another go at that? I completely agree that only potential (and wanted) featured articles should be assessed as top-importance and selected for the release of Wikipedia. Just, as the category stood, it included only one geographical article - Middle-earth, while IMHO notable locations can not only be more important than characters 'from external point of view upon Tolkien's works', but also have more possibilities. Númenor is admittedly not a very good candidate for a FA - little can be told of it from OOU point of view, unless it would be here that we place all the history of Akallabêth, with Notion Club Papers discussed etc. However, Valinor is the heart of Tolkien's writings, since all else spawned from his Lost Tales; it certainly deserves inclusion into the 1.0 release, and I hope much can be written about its influence on 'popular culture'. The same can be said of Beleriand; however, about Beleriand's 'concept and creation' more can be written than about that of any other in-universe topic. I won't change the importance list; leaving all decisions up to you. PS Good work with List of Númenóreans and the politics of Númenor, I planned to do the same! Only, was Tal-Elmar Númenórean?? Good point about the geographical articles. Please don't just leave it to me. It helps to get ideas from more than one person. The oIccasional tweaks are fine, it is just wholesale changes I want to avoid. About Tal-Elmar - not a clue. Articles such as that one do not satisfy the criteria for inclusion set out at WP:FICT. There're loads of similar articles on Wikipedia, and many users would have them deleted overall, yet hopefully it has been decided at WT:Me (check the archives) to merge many of them to list articles that neatly group similar topics and have more chances of proving notability instead of having a bundle of short stubs. You are still encouraged to expand the relevant section of List of Middle-earth animals (personally, I find it handier), and also to join the WP:WikiProject Middle-earth. Speedy deletion on The Tolkien Society of Sweden

Hi. :) I have removed the speedy notice on this article since I was not able to complete your request. The request indicated that "The page to be moved to this name is The Tolkien Society of Sweden", but obviously that's problematic since that was the name of the page tagged for deletion. :) In case it was a typo, I followed the redirect and found that rather than a page, it's a subsection, so obviously it can't be moved either. (edit conflict) Well, the article Tolkien Society of Sweden was recently merged, but it seems by the extenal links and sources that the official name is The Tolkien Society of Sweden. This was the original title of the stubby article (I don't know why it was moved), and since one of the redirects to the new list should remain "the" redirect to section, i.e. the one that will be listed in Category:Tolkien societies, I decided that it should also be the one with page history. Tolkien Gateway and CorenBot whitelist

See here for a situation similar to the Everholt one. Would you have time to fix that one and look around for any more? I think Tolkien Gateway (which is GFDL) needs to be requested to go on the User:CorenSearchBot whitelist - would you be able to do that as well? Sorry, but no time to do this myself. We do need to credit Tolkien Gateway (as they do for us), so could you ask the article editor to do this. Also, Hyarion should probably also be told of this. Middle-earth redirect categories

See here. Would you have time to deal with reorganising things? I suspect it will be one of us two. Instructions at the WikiProject might need updating, or maybe not, if the only action is to recategorise the category and the list articles and to rename the root category for the redirects. I've just realised that the "show redirects" feature recently enabled on the mediawiki software could be a better way of handling and tracking some redirects. For example, see here. The same URL structure can be used to generate similar links for all Middle-earth and Tolkien articles. Indeed, it could be applied by template. The lists for Middle-earth, J. R. R. Tolkien, and The Lord of the Rings are here, here and here, for example. For a example for a Middle-earth list, see here. What do you think? Does this have possibilities? Yes, I'm aware of this feature, I just don't want to do all this it right now. I hope to get some more free time this month, and plan to finish reorganising existing lists (both watchlists and those for non-editing users). You are wasting my time

Wikipedia Stories Project

Hi!

My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. I'm chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who make and use Wikipedia have so much to share.

I'm scouring user pages looking for inspiring, motivating and interesting stories of how Wikipedia has affected the lives of people. I'm asking questions like "How has Wikipedia changed your life?", "What's the most interesting story you have about Wikipedia?" and "Has Wikipedia ever surprised you?"

Last year, we used the annual fundraiser as a way to show the world who it is who actually writes Wikipedia. We featured editors from Brazil, Ukraine, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, India, United States and England. This campaign was a huge success, resulting in the most financially successful fundraising campaign ever. It was also a campaign that stayed true to the spirit of Wikipedia, educating the public that this free top-5 website is created by volunteers like you and I.

This year we want to highlight more Russian-language Wikipedia editors, so I am in the process of planning a trip to Russia to interview editors.

If you or someone you know (or have heard about) has been positively affected by Wikipedia, or have something interesting to say about Wikipedia I'd very much like to hear about it!

Tolkien Category Pollution

Your Monobook.js script User:YLSS/monobook.js, is showing up in the Category Category:Tolkien articles of unclear notability. This is against WP:USERNOCAT which indicates that User files should not be in mainspace categories. I wish I could tell you how to fix it, but I don't understand the complicated setup you have on your monobook.js, However it should be fixed.Naraht (talk) 21:30, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
